Good morning ladies!!

Ok, the DOMS are back in my hamstrings and outer thighs and calves..Well, my legs after GS legs yesterday..Today will be a cardio DVD in place of the walk and run. I may do the walk or something later as it is beautiful here today. At least right now it is..

I pulled out the Cardio Hits DVD and will pick one of these workouts for today..

What about everyone else???

Good Morning Ladies!

Today is B&G....I haven't decided if I"m looking forward to it or not...lol

Kathy- I welcome DOMS with open arms...however, I hate having them in my hamstrings!! Anywhere else is fine.... What is your take on the subject? lol

BBL!

Iris

Goodmorning Kathy, Iris and all that follow.

Today will be B&G Premix #2. Right now I'm going to take the kids to the park for a little bit since it's nice outside and not that hot as it usually is here in FL.

Kathy Have fun with CH! I love the step combo's in that DVD, they are such fun!

Iris You are not alone with B&G today :) I'm doing this workout too!

Well, I'll be on my way to the park now. I hope you guys have a great workout! I will be back later :)

Hello everyone!!! Had a step class at the gym yesterday.Today is Pure Strength legs, chest and abs!!

Kathy-Have fun with cardio hits.I just did step Works and I think I am doing Step fit Tommorrow.

Iris& laperez-B&G-hear great things about it-How bad are the DOMS after?

Will check in later have to go back to work!!! -Lisa

Good Morning Kathy, Iris, Ivy!! :) :) :)

YES! My legs were definitely feeling DOMS this morning, too, Kathy! I haven't had them often lately in lower body workouts, so this is a GOOD thing.

I've been debating on what I want to do to substitute a "30 Minute Brisk Walk and 30 Minute Interval Run". I was going to try to get to the park to do the actual workout, but I'm not a fan of "brisk walking" , plus DH would have to stay up with the boys, and he's tired. Sooooo.... maybe I'll pull out a few old Kathy Smith workouts. To sub for the "Brisk Walk" , I'll do Project You's: Long Lean and then an older one that is 20-30 minutes of hi/lo intervals. I haven't done Kathy in a LONG LONG time, so it might even be fun. Did you guys know that I met her a few years ago? She flew me and my husband out to LA and I was in one of her Project You commercials! Went to her house in Santa Monica, and hung out there all day. It was surREAL!

Ivy: You're going to love the Hungry Girl cook book! I've made a few things, I'll let you know which ones when you get the book.

Hey Beth: Read your post from last night... Hope your kiddos enjoy camp! When do they go back to school? Zach did awesome with camp last week. No blood sugar issues, and he seems to be able to keep up with the responsibility of it all. We have a new challenge this week: Wednesday's overnight at camp. It's optional, and he begged and begged to go. It would involve a LOT more responsibility on his part. He HAS to be able to check his blood sugar at least once at midnight. He assures me that they are awake until about 1AM, so it wouldn't be a problem. But..of course I'm going to worry about the whole thing, not to mention the food choices he'll be making. ("camp" foods, s'mores, hotdog, hamburg, chips, etc) . My stress for the week!

Cool you'll be jumping into the AUG 08 rotation, Beth! It is pretty easy to sub most stuff. I bet you'll have major DOMS from the 4DS upper body mix! And good luck with IMAX 3 today (it really IS fun!!)

BBL...

Hi ladies!! I wasn't feeling very "chatty" yesterday, but I think I'm back in form today. Just a warning, ;)

Chris, Zach is probably right, I'm sure they'll be up way past 12:00!! I'm sure you've thought of this, but can you give him a cell phone for the night? Then you could call him and remind him. That would be more for your peace of mind!! My kids went to a summer camp in the mornings earlier this summer. They did have a sleep-in earlier this month. They wanted to go, but I just wasn't too sure about it. They would have been fine, I'm sure, but I didn't send them. Probably should have, but there'll be other opportunities, I'm sure. Wow, you met Kathy Smith?? How cool!!

Lisa, I haven't taken a step class at the gym in a long time. I don't belong to one anymore, but when I did last year, they hardly offered any. But I really enjoyed it when they did.

Ivy and Iris, have fun with B&G! Those premixes are tough!!

Kathy, I'm getting some DOMS from GS Legs, too. Last week I really didn't have any. So I'll take it!! I actually felt more sore from Muscle Max this weekend than I did from the Pyramids last week.

This morning I did the "guts" section of B&G since I didn't do the scheduled CoreMax yesterday. I thinking I'm going to combine a 30-minute walking itread with a 30-minute run itread for my workout today. Just have to figure out which ones to use. I have a lot.

We had our block party this weekend. It was fun - the boys actually stayed out way later than me. I went in about midnight with Caitlyn sound asleep on my lap. They had a fire and didn't come in till about 2:30 am. (with DH, of course!) We all recovered Sunday.

Yesterday was weird. I was so tired and hungry all day! I just kept taking cat naps (until someone needed me for something, which was quite often ;)) and eating!! I figured my body must be trying to tell me something, so I ate quite a bit yesterday, but tried to keep it healthy.

The referral finally came through for Caitlyn's surgery, so that's one less thing to worry about.

Have a great day all!!

Joanne

Hi Everyone!

Joanne, great news on the referral!

Chris, so cool about your experience with Kathy Smith! Amazing! I was off by one week on your camp situation -- I guess 'cause I was on vacation. An overnight does sound frightening, for you, but the cell phone is a great idea. I'm sure that would help you feel a little better about it.

I don't yet have DOMs from yesterdays 4DS upper body premix -- maybe it'll be a two day delay like we sometimes get. Imax 3 was so tough this morning! I didn't get enough sleep last night, so that didn't help. Thank goodness I did not have wine last night! :)

Have a great day!

ETA: My kids start school in two weeks, so it's camp this week, and I'm hoping to get a good handle on the work situation, and then next week I'm not working and plan to cram in as much last minute summer fun as we can. Do some local stuff -- museums, fishing, etc. I have two weeks to get them used to an earlier schedule! :)

Good Morning All

My Walk/Run turned into a run. I called my friend to see if she wanted to do the walk/run with me and she just couldn't pull herself out of bed. So I started out running and before I knew it I was back at my house and still had time remaining don't you just hate when that happens? I ended up running for 56 min and walked 4 min. I had my sons Ipod listening to Casting Crowns this was the first time that I ran with music it kept me moving. :D Let me tell you that I am feeling DOMS from GS Leg when I started out my run boy could I feel it in my calves. Who felt like their calves were going to burst while doing the calf raises?

Joanne I am sure you mentioned awhile ago why Caitlyn need surgery but I missed that. So if you wouldn't mind talking about it again please fill me in. I will be praying for Caitlyn and you...:D

Bitmover my kids start school on the 26th. I am not looking forward to the homework but it will be nice to have a routine again. I am also starting to have the kids go to bed earlier.

Chris what workout did you do???

Kathy the sun is out today for the first time in a few days. I hope it warms up so we can start using the pool again. It felt like fall last night. As much as I love fall I'm not ready for it yet.

Lisa, Ivy, and Iris how did your workouts go????

bbl

Lori

Got my workout done!

I ended up doing 30 Minutes of Long Lean (a cardio that has a "brisk walk" pace) and then 30 Minutes of a Kathy Smith interval video called "Peak Fat Burning". It's pretty good... it alternates intervals w/ lower body work for the 'rests'. It's not with weights, just light squatting and some functional moves. It was kind of fun for a change!

Lisa: Have fun with PS today! I'm looking forward to doing it next week...

Joanne: Good idea on giving him the cell phone. I think i will!! The block party sounds like fun. And your boys must have loved staying up so late and having a bonfire. Your workout today sounds great! B&G Guts part is a good one! THAT workout I do remember getting DOMS from ! I can't wait til I can go out for runs again. Sorry you had a weird day yesterday. Maybe your body was fighting something off. At least you ate healthy stuff!

Beth: Hi-5's on getting IMAX 3 done today, and being tired! Your end of summer schedule sounds good. My boys start on the 28th. I should start getting them back to earlier bed times too.

Lori: I'm sure that I would have ran the whole time too if I went out for a run today too. I always run with music (have an iPod FULL of motivating running stuff) and that is 90% of what gets me moving! I love it!! Yes, the sun is out here today too, finally. I need to get outside! Last night we got even MORE rain! One thing this August, our lawn is NOT all dried out and brown!!

Talk to you guys later.....

Thought I'd share my "Kathy Smith" photo! :) It was taken in her porch off her kitchen, with Project: YOU playing in the background!

Let me see if I can hit everything...

Kathy - have fun with Cardio Hits. Is Cedie in those workouts? I was still in Sewell back when she made those workouts.

Ivy & Iris - B&G looks fun! Enjoy those workouts.

Lisa - do you like step classes or DVDs more? My school doesn't give many step classes as part of their staff workout program but I found out they actually give classes where they give you class credit (which makes you go, hmm...$65/term for the workout series of classes or $1000/unit for a term for a step class...grrrr). Since I'm on fellowship I don't pay for my academic units but IW as debating about taking the step class for credit.

Chris -- next time you fly by to see Kathy in Santa Monica you can drop by my place too. Though I've pretty much shuffled between the westside, pasadena, or downtown in the last 8 years here so I'm not sure where I'll be in the next year or two.

Joanne, that's really good abot the referral.

Beth, SLEEP. Sleep is good.

So, the problem with being a grad student is that you get stuck on crappy school health insurance which means you go to the Heatlh Center which means that you don't exactly get the best doctors in the world and sometimes that means you don't even get doctors. But anyway, after a little pushing from me the end result is just give my knee a couple more days of rest, what I was doing is fine...so nothing until Thursday at least. It seems that the impact may have jarred my alignment slightly and my kick sorta popped it into place but its just sore.

But in the meantime, I feel like a complete fattie. Seriously, 2.5 days of not eating right and exercising makes me feel this fat and show it up on the scale too - NOT COOL. My husband keeps on reminding me of the 2-day rule though. We're convinced it takes us about 2 days to see the effects of something whether its eating badly or working out really well. So if you ate badly of Friday you'll probably see it Sunday/Monday but not Saturday if you check the scale. Personally, I think its just a line we tell ourselves to not go crazy.

But got the High Step last night. Since I couldn't workout I made my husband workout on Cathe. It was hilarious. He kept on cursing at us NJ girls. He likes his High Step too...He always loves multitaskers so he's excited about having benches for when he lifts weights.

So, what have I been doing as I can't really walk around that much. Well, planning experiments and talking to vendors. But mostly...shopping. DH's bday is later this month so this is what I did...

first I reserved dinner for us here: http://boheme.globaldiningca.com/ We pretty much go on three expensive dinners a year. One for my bday, one for his bday, and our anniversary. Most of our friends go out a lot more than us but I like going to splurge three times a year big time to a really a nice place than a bunch of not as nice places throughout the year.

Also, I just bought for him (and for me), the Hardcore Series. He's been totally thrilled about Cathe's weightlifiting. And Jen from Advanced Workouts is amazing! I emailed her asking if I could have Imax 3 from the bundle replaced with BM2 since I already had Imax3 and she was totally cool with it. So, I got ten Cathe DVDs for 199-10% to be 179.99 so <$18/DVD. So, I just pushed out a bunch of $$$ but we're probably going to stingy soon until Xmas and the IRS finally said they'd give us the economic stimulus check (we had to show extra paperwork that took forever to process beacuse they questioned one of our credits). So, hopefully it'll all work out.

Ahhh..see what happens when I'm limited to what I have to do in the day? I just blab blab blab....

Hello again! I just finished B&G Premix 2 and I was ok till the end. At the end when it was down on four leg lift I wasn’t into it, then I skipped the second round of leg lift. My mind is somewhere else right now. I have to go to the doc tomorrow to get this heart rate monitor that I must use for 24 hours to make sure nothing is wrong with my heart since I’ve been feeling extra hard beats in my chest, don’t know if it’s the heart or not, but doc wants to make sure.

Lisa: Have fun with PS. I don’t remember having really bad DOMS with B&Gs like with GS Legs.

Chris: HOW COOL!! That’s so awesome that you met Kathy Smith and you were in her commercial! That’s awesome!! YAY!!! Can you believe that as I was typing this message UPS came with my cookbooks!!!! I can’t wait to open the box!

Joanne: Glad you had a great block party! We are going to have another this year pretty soon. I’m glad to hear Caitlyn’s surgery referral came through just fine.

Bitmover: Hi-5 on Imax3! That’s a tough one and I have to do that one tomorrow. I hope I can make it through, lol.

Lori: WTG on your run! I gosh, I know what you mean about feeling like the calves are going to burst when doing calve raises. I feel the same way, lol. B&G went good except at the end when I was giving up. Maybe it’s because I’m tired, of just thinking of that Heart Rate Monitor machine I have to wear tomorrow for 24 hours.

Chris: WOW! Great picture of you and Kathy Smith! Thanks for sharing it with us. I hope one day I can take a picture with Cathe!

Well, it’s time to open my present, lol!!!! My DS just got up from his nap and it’s time for lunch. I’ll bb later.

Hottie: I'm glad that there is nothing bad with your knee. I just saw my doc today about my ankle too and he said it takes about 2 months for it to heal completely. That's so awesome that your DH loves to workout to Cathe's workouts. He needs to talk to my husband, lol! I try to get DH to workout to her DVDs, but he says he has no rythm to do her WOs. The restaurant that your taking your DH looks awesome!!! When is his B-day? My DH is on the 29th and I'm planning him a surprise B-day, I can't wait!!

Ivy, my youngest son's bday is the 29th. I've got to do some shopping. All he wants is legos but I'm thinking we may get some sort of outdoor toy for him. On the heart rate monitor thing your wearing -- I had to wear one once a long time ago -- what a pain! But they found nothing wrong -- hopefully your results will be the same.

Hottie, what are you studying in grad school? Sorry if you've already mentioned it. Are you Cal Tech? You should be prepared to go easy on your knee for a while! Bad timing on the high step, I guess. I think it's such a hoot that your husband does Cathe. Mine always just makes fun of me, and my friend who does Cathe finally has her husband doing some easy dvds, but says he would cry if he tried to do Cathe. :)

Chris, thanks for posting the picture with Kathy. I'm still floored about that story!

-Beth

Beth: Thanks! I hope there is nothing wrong either. Do you remember if you used it while working out? The doc said I can workout with it on, but don't know if we the sweat will those sticky things will fall off. Can I take a shower with it on?

Well, both DH and are are being cautious about the knee. I'm going to be careful with it and if it hurts again after workout out on it I'm going to demand real doctors/specialists. But I have lax muscles so the theory does make sense.

I'm seriously blessed to have my husband. He is one the most supportive people I've met in my life, and he knows really well that supporting someone often means getting involved in the activities one does. And he doesn't have those walls that some men have about women fitness enthusiasts. He always says, "those women can kick my ass any day" when pointing to the TV.

But this is funny: I was talking to him the other day about how it was really sweet that he was doing the weight lifting sections of Cathe with me or own his own and he told me that on a previous night in bed he went to hold me and his hand touched my arm and he was shocked because he felt muscle in a part of the arm that he had never felt me have before. And then he went to go check his own arm and thought that mine was bigger! So after that, he been much more willing to do Cathe routines. :D

As for the aerobic stuff -- I can only get him to do kickboxing and sometimes blast premixes because the step work is too much "thinking" for him.

His bday is the 27th and he's turning 31. I'm totally excited about the restaurant, I hope it delivers well. I sorta need to lose weight before that night so I can take the hit...

I'm sorry about your ankle. Do you adjust your workouts to not put strain on it? Cold therapy? Just curious.

I am totally floored that you know Caltech. NOBODY knows the school unless they live out here or they're in science. Like, they made #1 in the rankings the year after I entered and then they were forgotten (despite the fact that they're in the top 10 every year). A lot of people think Cal Poly instead which drives me crazy sometimes.

Both DH and I went to Caltech for undergrad. DH left science to pursue Journalism and he got into USC's Annenberg J-school so I followed him there so now I'm stuck...erm pursuing my Ph.D. in molecular biology/biochemistry (I do more of the latter but the official title will be in the first) at SC. I specifically work on molecular switches in aging and DNA repair.

My DH doesn't cry when doing cathe...he curses a LOT though. A LOT. But he really does love the weight lifting parts. I think he likes the guidance of hey, do this set and now do this set but be careful of this etc. I think its easy for guys to just go "bicep curl, me MANLY." He's MUCH smarter than that so I think that's why appreciates Cathe. Like I said, I'm truly blessed to have found him.:)

Hottie: I hope that when DH see’s my results he would like to do Cathe as well. He has tried her GS upper body workouts, but he thinks they are just OK. I couldn't believe he said that. I call him a macho man, lol! But I hope one day he will decide to give it a try and stick to it. I wanted him to try the KB but he says it’s too jumpy. I don’t modify the workouts anymore since I can jump without feeling any pain, but if I bent my ankle I feel the pain. At first when it happened I couldn’t even walk that much it was super painful. I don’t ice it or anything. Doc told me to rap it with an ankle brace so that it won’t bend at all and that should help it heel. :)

Ivy, it was more than 10 years ago that I had to wear that heart thing! So, I cannot remember if I worked out, but I'm guessing I probably skipped it. I do think they told me to take it off while showering -- somehow that seems familiar. I'm sure you could call them and they'd be happy to give you answers!

Hottie, re: Caltech.... I figured it had to be with a name like "hottiescientist" and knowing you were in Southern Ca. A long time ago I worked in support for a small computer company, and all of our customers were heavy science people: physics, mathematicians, chemists, aerospace engineers. It was sometimes very intimidating to support these people! One of my regular and very nice callers was a guy in the physics dept. at Caltech.

-Beth

Beth: My neighbor just came by and she said she used it and that I can workout with it, but can't take a shower with it. She told me I couldn't take one till I take it off at the doc! And I have to WO tomorrow after I get it on, lol. I'll ask my doc tomorrow and see what happens, because he thinks it's a great idea if I workout with it so he can see how my heart acts when I workout. It's a good thing too because tomorrow is Imax 3.
