Success Story Spotlight: My Dream Becomes a Reality by Keila Smith

Keila Smith’s Success Story

My fitness journey with Cathe started in 2005. I weighed almost 250 pounds. I had tried fad diets, different workout DVDs, and even gym memberships. It seemed nothing worked and I didn’t stick with any of them. Then one day, I skeptically purchased a step aerobics kit. It came with the step, hand weights, band, and stability ball and an instructional Cathe DVD set. I had never heard of Cathe but I purchased the kit anyway.

When I first attempted the workout I could not complete the beginner DVD. Day after day I would workout. Cathe became my motivator and inspiration! I would set goals for myself to get further each day, even if only a minute more. From there I set goals of moving on into intermediate workouts and then on to goals of completing advanced workouts.
I now have almost all of Cathe’s DVDs. She’s still with me after all these years driving me to new fitness levels. I had a dream of one day attending a Road Trip. This would be an opportunity for me to exercise along side the person I attribute my success. I would have the opportunity to meet my role model and thank her personally for all of the motivation and inspiration she has given me. Well, guess what? That dream is now a reality! I will be attending my first Road Trip in October! I couldn’t be more excited! I believe I am equally nervous!
Cathe and her workouts are now a part of my daily life. I would have never imagined that one purchase of a step aerobics kit could be so life altering. That purchase introduced me to Cathe Friedrich and she ignited a fire inside me I did not know I possessed. That fire is still burning just as bright! Thank you, Cathe!

  • Wow, I loved reading your success story. It was really motivating and its people like you who share that keep me motivated to stick with my Cathe workouts knowing the results are awesome. Your beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

  • You are an athlete, its apparent in your physical appearance and the passion of your story, and now you have become another inspiration. Right on woman!

  • Awesome- I’m hoping to make it to the trip too- working on flight details today! I’m super nervous also!

  • I’m astonished by all the amazing comments! Never think that fitness goals are unobtainable! When I began, I was a stay at home with 2 toddlers. In order for me to exercise uninterrupted we had three of everything. We had three steps, my husband made them their own resistance tubing, and we even had one pound hand weights. This way there was no fussing over taking turns and there were no unsupervised toddlers wreaking havoc throughout the house. My children are elementary age now and they are homeschooled. Anyway, to get to the point, make the time! Find a way! Stay dedicated, focused, and determined! Goals are achievable! And for the record, Cathe still kicks my tail! I’ll get stuck in a comfortable zone with a favorite workout. When I rotate to a new workout..WHOA!! Cathe’s awesome like that! There are still several workouts I can’t just stick in the DVD player and complete the entire workout. I’m still a work in progress! I love the challenge!!
Kim, I hope all falls into place and I see you in Daytona!
Thanks again for all the comments! Y’all are awesome!

  • It is so awesome to see your story. I am lucky enough to be a member of Four Seasons gym and do Cathes’ classes with her. She is not only a great inspiration, but a truly wonderful and caring person. You are beautiful!! Enjoy the road trip and hope to see you at our gym sometime.

  • Great story. Thanks for sharing! I also started with a Cathe step kit and also homeschooled my two children, now in college 🙂 I hope I get to go on a road trip as well, my daughter has already told me she’d go with me – she really likes HiiT workouts. It is important to pass on a legacy of health to your children so they avoid a life of disease and pain. You sound like you are well on your way! Keep it up fellow Cathelete.

  • Keila,
You are a true Cathlete!! I too will be attending the Daytona RT:) Please come say hello to me — I’ll be the crazy red head! LOL I love meeting new RT’s since that was me back in 2012. I was kind of quiet because everyone seemed to know each other. Now I feel more comfortable and want to make you feel comfortable too!!!
