Cathe’s Newest ‘Hip’ Chick by Kimberly Purcell

After

Today, because of Cathe’s challenging and fun workout videos, I am the strongest I have ever been in my life.

This is a far cry from the near-death car accident I suffered from over 25 years ago. This accident left me with severe head injuries and a damaged left hip. Back then, the technology wasn’t as advanced as today and, doctors told me that I just took a bad bruise to the hip. Well, I came to learn, later on, that I actually had a break at the hip bone.

Needless to say, the pain and agility got worse as the years went by, yet I still worked out as best I could to stay in shape. When I met my husband, who worked out regularly and was in very good condition, I became even more convinced that I wanted to keep working out and stay in the best shape possible.

I bought a few workout videos and joined an online forum. Then, a life-changing event happened. I discovered Cathe’s Video Workouts. At first, I didn’t think I would be able to keep up with them because of the constant pain and limited motion in my hip joint, but because she was so motivating and challenging for me; I began this wonderful new phase of my conditioning.

I was getting stronger both mentally and physically, even though my hip joint continued to deteriorate. Eventually, my doctor told me that if I wanted to maintain a decent quality of active life, that I needed to have my hip replaced.

All the research I found about hip surgery convinced me that the best way I could prepare for the surgery, and for the recovery, was to get in the best shape I possibly could. By then, I owned all but a couple of Cathe’s videos and decided to use her workouts to maximize my upper body strength and overall conditioning to get ready for the tough road ahead. I can honestly say that my online workout buddies and I believe that Cathe’s workouts are the most challenging and most fun of all.

So, at age 46, I zipped through the daunted hip surgery and had what the doctor called, an amazing recovery. Amazing, yes; yet the first truth is that the great overall strength and condition I developed from working out with my Cathe Videos got me through the surgery part easily. The second truth is that the upper body strength I gained in my arms, shoulders and chest from these workouts allowed me to take all the stress off of my lower body during my recovery and move around so much easier. In fact, I started back working out with Cathe just 15 days after the operation. Amazing, YES!

All of those years of pain that began over 25 years ago are gone, and today, I am the strongest I have ever been in my life. I have since completed two rotations of STS, along with the STS cardio, pain free. I could not have done all this without your help. Thank you, Cathe, for challenging me and for showing me the way to get in maximum condition both mentally and physically.

  • Great job. I would to talk to you more about this as my doctor is recommended a hip replacement for me. I’ve be avoiding because I thought I would have to give up Cathe’s higher impact cardio dvd’s but if you’re doing STS I have hope!

  • Your story caught my eye when I saw you mentioned serious head injuries. I too suffered a near death accident in 08 when I fell off my horse and landed headfirst on the cement ground…without a helmet. I am really struggling with getting back in shape but your story is an inspiration for me. Thank you!

  • Wow, what an inspiring story! I truly admire your perseverance thru the pain and limited motion. Most would have given up. I often wonder what I would do if I hadn’t found these forums and Cathe’s workouts. I consider it a blessing to be able to move my body and Cathe sure teaches us well! Congratulation on your success and huge comeback!
