  • Dear Cathe, I used to work out with your DVDs every day. In fact, I have ALL your DVD’s except the STS series. But over the last 3 years my back has deteriated so badly. I have been daignosed with Permanent Nerve Damage. I want to try and get some exercising in to build up my muscles to support my back. Since I can’t do anything more than walk, right now, do you think I should start just working on my muscles? I am very depressed from the pain, but only exercising kept me happy. I feel like my life has been taken from me. I do quilt for charity, but I need to get my body back!! Please tell me what you would do to recover from an injury. I don’t believe that sitting around is going to make my back better!!

  • Hi Glori:
This is not Cathe. I am just someone who enjoy her workout too. My heart goes out to you. I have had back problems in the past too though not to the extent that you are describing. Since you have been diagnosed with nerve damage, does that mean you been seeing a neurologist? Maybe your doctor can refer you to someone to help you with this. It sounds like you need someone with both a medical and a sports medicine background, someone who is knowledgeable of your medical problem and who can come up with an exercise program that addresses your individual needs. I hope it works out for you, don’t give up, there is always a solution.

  • Hi Glori,

I am sorry you are going through this. I too have a herniated disc, 3 bulging discs, etc and have been in PT for 9 mos. What has been a absolute life saver is pilates for the core. My PT suggested it and I have been very diligent along with the elliptical. I am now moving bakk into weights and more vigorous workouts cautiously. A good physical therapist is critical to help you know when it is sfe to try the next level. Good luck!
