What “fusion” Means to the Lift, Move & Restore Series

The idea of fusion is not new to fitness, but how it’s interpreted can be different depending on the type of workout you’re performing. In the simplest terms, fusion in fitness is mixing elements from more than one fitness discipline to create a workout with a fresh feel, new sequences, and a new set of challenges.

For example, you may have seen workouts that combine Pilates with boxing, or cardio with yoga. In my new series Lift, Move & Restore: Functional Training for the Actively Aging Lifestyle, you can expect to see exercises common to a certain fitness discipline make their way into another type of routine. You can also expect to see some pieces of fitness equipment used as they are intended, as well as in ways other than their known purpose, for example, using a foam roller as a cardio and balance tool rather than as a myofascial release tool.

Combining different types of exercise and movement throughout the series will give these new workouts a fresh and effective edge while simultaneously ramping up calorie burn and challenging our bodies in new and exciting way
