I always enjoyed exercising, whether bike riding or aerobics. My weight would fluctuate, but a conscious effort always brought it back to where it belonged. Then after I got
married, I had a problem – serious weight gains led to dieting, led to weight loss, but nothing I could stick with.
Quit the diet, and the weight would come back on (and then some!) In 2005, health issues and poor diet caused the scales to climb higher than ever before. I was tired all the time – too tired to exercise. A 2-hour nap after work was not out of the ordinary.
I was also doing research at the time, and realized I had hypoglycemia. If I didn’t get it under control, it was possible I
would end up diabetic. I had several of Cathe’s videos at the time, and was gleaning information off the website about clean eating. I decided the time was now – an upcoming surgery would be the turning point. I was not allowed to lift more than 10 pounds for 6 wee ks, but walked my treadmill daily. I also lifted light weights, and changed my diet. The weight just melted off!
Once I was back to no restrictions and doing advanced Cathe videos, I saw a change in my physique that gave me a rush like no other. In fact, I didn’t even have to work as hard to see good results. In less than 2 years, I was able to lose 48 pounds (and I was over 40 years old!). I felt so good about myself; I wanted to share what I had learned with others. But was I too old? I hit the Cathe forums, and found my story not so unusual, and that it is never too late to pursue your dream.
So I became a certified personal fitness trainer. I enjoy pushing people to become strong and believe in themselves. And I thank Cathe for being there through it all!
What surgery did you have ?
Hysterectomy due to fibroids. The anemia was causing much of my fatigue.
Congratulations Kathy! You look great. It is so discouraging to diet and exercise and not lose the weight. I think consistency helps as you stated by walking every day. I seem to lose 5 – 8, then it stops. It is hard to stay motivated when the scale doesn’t budge. You took some time to lose yours, maybe that is the way to go! You look fantantic and the joy shows on your face!
