STS Update

Hi Everyone!

I am happy to inform you that we are just three days away from finishing both the final editing phase (step #5) and (step #6) the audio sweetening of the STS workouts. Yahoo! Next up on the list is Step #7 which is my favorite the Music Phase. I’ve actually been working on the music with my head composer for over a month now. This is one of the most important phases to me and I’m sure to you too. This is not an easy step and is very time consuming to do as STS has over 1100 exercises that need music scored to their movement and energy level. The same is also true of every break that falls between each exercise. To accomplish this monumental task we have hired music producers on both the east and west coast to write, produce and score the STS music. Let me give you some more details….

As I just mentioned, we have added a few additional composers to the team to deliver a variety of musical tastes to the series. What I find especially interesting is the way the music is specifically scored to each exercise. Not only does it start and finish when we do, but it provides the right energy and “ UMPH” during the exercise to get you through the sticking points. For instance, incline bicep curls starts off with good energy and then all of the sudden when you start getting tired, the music kicks into a higher gear adding more instruments and a different energy. Then as you start fighting for those last reps, the music builds right along with you, giving you the right dose of drama to finish those last reps. On that very last rep when you say AHHHH (or whatever other language you use when speaking to me at that point, LOL) the music just calms right down and keeps a nice underlying energy, yet doesn’t compete with my instruction for the next exercise. Then after you are set up and good to go you will hear a new musical experience begin to build and unleash itself for the next exercise. It is really amazing how it holds your focus. The music is so customized and signature sounding. You will hear a genre of styles from rock, to pop, to percussion, to edgy guitar, to “cirque style” music, to dreamy, dramatic, and even mysterious sounds. It’s all in there and plays at precisely the right time to keep you looped in and focused. Suffice is it to say that the music is choreographed to the exercise even though it may not match the move beat for beat. As we mentioned earlier, when working to failure, there is no continuous steady beat after a certain point, and therefore no way to keep a tempo while lifting. So we provide music to match the mood and time frame of each exercise to enhance the workout experience rather than script to a slowing beat of a person reaching failure. As the composers put it “we would sound like a bunch of drunk musicians if we did that”.

Overall, there are a lot of people involved in the meticulous details of the STS project and we are being very thorough as we see this series standing the test of time for many years to come. I know it may seem like a lifetime of anticipation now but it will provide you with a lifetime of results when it’s in your hands.
