In April of 2007, I went in for a routine physical. I have always exercised with exercise videos and dvds and I considered myself healthy. I was actually looking forward to the doctor coming in and saying how great my results were! Instead, the doctor told me my cholesterol was very high and she wanted to put me on medication. I was shocked, because high cholesterol does not run in my family and I always believed that I was exercising and eatting right and that would all pay off health wise! Well, I was wrong!!
When I spoke with the physician’s assistant at a follow up appointment, she informed me that I would probably have to take the medication for the rest of my life! I told her that I work out, eat right and I asked what else I could do so that I wouldn’t have to take medication. (The medication I was prescribed would require me to get my liver function checked every three months! Needless to say, I never filled the prescription, I was determined to lower my cholesterol without medication!!)
Her reply to my question as to what more I could do was to “workout harder.” Okay, that made me mad! I was actually really peeved by her comment, but I did exactly as she said! I began working out exclusively with Cathe! I had been doing other workouts and thought I was working out. But when I started doing Cathe, I realized what working out was all about! It was feeling challenged and pushed to do things you never believed you were capable of doing!
I used to watch Cathe’s workouts on FitTV and think to myself – I could never lift weights like that, but now, I’ve done the STS program more than three times, each time my weights will increase and I’m feeling challenged each time I do each Mesocycle! I have just about every one of Cathe’s DVDs, including her latest Shock Cardio, and I never get bored!!Because of Cathe’s Fitness DVD’s I’ve lost 30 lbs., I’ve run a half marathon, a full marathon, a 15K and several 5ks!
I only use Cathe DVD’s now – I’ve given all the others away! I wake up five days a week at 4 a.m. to workout with Cathe and she always starts my day with a positive attitude and I feel that there is nothing I can’t do!! Working out with Cathe in the mornings is my “me” time, before my husband and kids wake up!
Thanks to Cathe, I am in the best physical shape of my life! But more importantly, my cholesterol dropped over 100 points and I don’t have to take any medication!!
Cathe’s fitness DVDs not only improved my looks physcially, she has helped me to improve my health and that’s priceless!
That’s awesome news! It’s daunting how a person can go from being on a variety of Rx then by losing weight and getting in shape they no longer need it. I love the fact that you took matters into your own hands before filling the ‘script. Way-to-go!

That’s great. I exercise fairly regularly and found that there are so many misconceptions about high cholestoral. In your case, usually what you are eating is the culprit. In 9/09, LDL was 147(my doctor says they medicate at 160), and overall was 216. At my 6 month check up, my LDL was down to 117 and overall 200!
Two months later (May 2010), my overall is 187. It was changing my diet that really did it. I was walking 5-6 days a week and strength training, but until I changed my eating, nothing happened.
BTW: Prior to September 09, I hadn’t eaten any nuts, walnuts, etc. Once I started eating those and still maintaining my fruits, veggies, and protein with every meal along with portion contro, that’s when the change came.
I plan on starting my cathe dvd’s soon as I really need to “up the anty” (my system is accustomed to just walking), and I know the extra weght is going to be just a matter of time. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing.
FORGOT TO MENTION:
Many people don’t realize that cholesterol meds can have adversely affect the liver. It’s no joke!
Also, people assume that just because people exercise and/or look fit, that they can’t get high cholesterol.
President Clinton should be a sober reminder. He has heart disease and high cholesterol coupled with being on those meds is THE SAME as heart disease.
Yes, I used to think that I was working out, too. HA! Cathe is what true exercise is all about. Stick with it – you’re worth it!

Thanks for this great story! I am battling this also. My good cholesterol is good, forunately, but my bad is a little elevated. My triglycerides are high, and I need to lose 25-30 pounds. I have been feeling down about this, but your story really gave me a new positive attitude about what can be down with hard work and perserverance! Kudos, and again, thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you for allowing us to view your experience, I too am suffering from high cholesterol but refuse to take the meds. Unfortunately i havent done anything about it but now that I see that something can be done about it I most definately will try mudh harder to get it done. I do have Cathe’s STS dvd series. I do love lifting weights it feels really great when that energy kicks in the next day. My weight is at a whopping 200lbs I need to lose 60lbs to be healthy and not obese. My goal weight is 135-140, its gonna take me a while to get there but Im gonna do it. Thank you for sharing with us.
