What will you do with your old tube TV?

Yes, I still have one. :p It's a 13 inch color TV my dad bought me for my 10th b'day & I cannot bring myself to part with it, even now that it's utterly useless. If it's 30 years old now, in 20 more years I'll have an antique, right? ;)

So will you send yours to the electronics recycling dump, or are you an old sentimental lady like me?

A couple of weeks ago, I had all my excess stuff hauled away so that I could reclaim my workout room. However, if my Dad had given me any of it, I would keep it forever. He passed away a long time ago, but I miss him to this day with all my heart.

My workout tv broke a few weeks ago, so I went to Walmart to buy a replacement-nothing special, just a small tube TV. Guess how many they had- ONE!!! Apparently they don't even make tube TVs anymore?! And the flatscreens are just so darn expensive...

i have a 10 year old tv that i managed to find a converter piece for to hook a newer dvd player too. LOL i just refuse to get rid of anything if it still works.

actually i have had more issue with my big flat screen then i have had with any tv i ever owned. this is our first one and now reading alot on it, i should have done my homework before letting dh pick it out.

i don't know much about 30 year old tvs but if you ask my dh i am sure he will find a way to hook it up to something LOL

I have my old combi. Its my back up in case my tv fails and I can't watch my old vhs tapes any other way. I'm not giving them up, it was not easy getting all of those old workouts. When it dies, I will recycle it.

There mine sits in my workout room, happily playing DVDs and VHS tapes (the VHS player was a bear to find, I think they stopped making those too.)

I was thinking...

Fish tank.

If you get rid of the old tuber, do it through a recycling firm

I agree with LauraMax's point, that if one decides to get rid of the old tube TV, it is better to do it through a recycling firm. There are media reports of people dumping their TV's in refill sites, whcih is bad for the environment.

Last year I got rid of my old kitchen appliances, by looking up a recycling firm in the yellow pages -- one that would pick up old electronic appliances for free. I had to put them all out on my back deck and tag them, and the truck did cart them away. They use the old stuff for reusable parts or for the secondary materials market.

Or call your municipal or county govmt. Our county does electronics recycling 4X per year. We do it every month partnering w/another town--we alternate months for dump sites.

I'm still keeping mine though. :)

What will I do with it? Same as you, I'm still using it too!! No flat screens here, we have 5 tv & all old school! ;) We don't watch much tv to begin with & I just have better things to spend my $$$ on right now. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Maybe some day......

I have one sitting on the floor in my room that I don't know what to do with. My dad came to visit and thought I needed an upgrade so got me a flat screen. we don't even have cable so thats not an issue with me. he also got a digital box so we get pbs atleast now. I'll look into recycling it. :)

Maybe I should invite my Dad for a visit? ;)

If your dad gave it to you when you were that young, how can you part with it? I have so much stuff in my house that my mom and dad gave me when I was a little girl, also stuff from my grandparents (I keep everything!). Most of it is boxed up, but I can't part with anything (even if I'll never use it or if it is so outdated I can't use it!). I've tried in the past to get rid of it, but I always remember the story behind each thing that was given to me, so I wind up keeping everything. I figure when I'm really old and have grandkids, I can pull stuff out and tell the stories -- they probably won't care that much (since they weren't there at the time) but it will be a fun time to "look back" for me!
