Weight loss pills, any good ones?

Me again, I just posted about the protein shakes and now I'm wondering about weight loss pills. Are there any REAL ones out on the market today? Anything that would help speed up the weight loss process? I've decided to give it my all with weight training, clean eating and cardio, but if there's something that would give me a boost, I'll take it! :)

Thanks in advance, I always get GREAT advice on this thread and look forward to anybody help.

Thanks, Marcia :)

I think it depends on how much weight you have to lose. I started out with 120 lbs and in that situation, in my opinion there is nothing that will really help with that. People with less to lose (say 15-20 lbs) seem to have good luck with ephedra based supplements, however their safety has been called into question recently.

There is a prozac-phentermine (can't remember if it's phentermine or the other part of the fen-phen combo) that some doctors prescribed. I tried this a few years ago and didn't find that it really helped me.

And also there is Meridia, which helps some people.

But overall, there is nothing fantastic on the market right now. Phen-fen worked like wildfire, but of course it's no longer available and didn't turn out to be that safe either.

Good luck with everything,

In the past, I used to use Xenadrine (with ephedrine). I lost my first 10 pounds pretty quick (I was initially only trying to lose about 30 pounds). I really liked the results, but it made me very jittery and I could not sleep at night (I only took half the dosage recommended). After hearing the negative reports, I quit taking it.

I am now taking Acutrim Natural. It does not have ephedrine in it. It does not make me jittery, etc. I take one before lunch and another about an hour before dinner. The main thing I like about it is that a couple hours after dinner, I used to be real hungry, but this takes a lot of my hunger/cravings away.

Just my two cents. May be worth a try.

Hi Marcia,
I would suggest you not use diet pills unless under your physician's supevision. The path you are taking requires life style changes. There is no easy way out. Diet pills are dangerous if taken without adequet supervision. Think about it, how long are you planning to take them? What happens when you stop them? This is a serious matter not to be taken lightly.
Take care of yourself wisely.
Just a suggestion!
:)

Hey Marcia,

I have to agree with bjf here. I don't think weight loss pills should be used by anyone except the morbidly obese, where the risks of obesity actually outweigh (no pun intended) the risks of the medication. There was a thread about this subject a few weeks ago, which I believe was titled "HYDROXYCUT" whre I kind of got up on my soapbox in regards to ephedra based supplements.

If you take your mouse and click on "discussion topic" at the top of the column it will rearrange all the threads alphabetically- just go to the "H's". You can get them back to the usual order by clicking on "Date/Time" at the top of that column when you're done. I'm not sure if it was in the Ask Cathe or the Open Discussion Forum, so check both. Lots of other people had some great comments.
