Weight loss Check in

How is everyone doing? We didn't have very many people interested last week but I thought I'd post again and see if more want to join again. I looked up the first post for this check in and there were heaps of people!

Hope you are having a great vacation Kelly...since you are away you probably won't know I said that...lol....but I hope you are anyway!

How are your doing Crystal?

I'm doing fine with the exercise and I have modified my eating habits but don't see a great weight loss....but just doing what I am doing makes me healthier than I would have been if I hadn't made any changes. I would like to find that book HB talked about by Dr. Shapiro. I looked for it the other day and couldn't find it. I should let my fingers do the walking and see if I can find it.

I am going to do a tape now...PS for chest and shoulders and a cardio afterwards...don't know yet what I'll decide to do there.

Hope everyone has had a good week!

I got mine through Rodale books, which is the outfit that puts out the Prevention magazine books. I'm wondering if you might be able to find it on the Prevention website. Have you tried Amazone.com and sites like that? I know Borders will order for you.

Hi Susan

I'm still trucking along, and thank you for asking.
There was a great initial turn out for this topic, it's a
shame that it fizzled out.

Anyway, I did well with my exercise last week but the scale
went up a bit. I know that could be for various reasons, but
primarily I think I need to keep stricter watch on what I'm eating. So I will add that to my focus.

I'm having good results in many ways but unfortunately I'm not seeing much difference in my clothing at all. I'm determined to see a change over the next few weeks.

Thanks Honeybunch for your reply :).

I live in Canada and our dollar is just pitiful compared to the U.S dollar so to order stuff from the States costs me an arm and a leg (hey....I'd weigh less ;-)) especially when they want to charge extra at the border. There are book stores like Chapters and Indigo here that are similar to Borders and it was one of those I tried, but I just looked, I didn't really dig deep. I should see if they can get it on order for me.

I hear of you guys ordering barbells and music and stuff and can't just follow along with you (it has probably saved me money). Our son lives in New Hampshire now so I could have stuff sent to him and pick it up when we visit but the cost is still high and I'd probably still have to declare it at the border anyway so I don't think that would save me anything. Thank goodness for CK Sales....I preordered the new Cathe's and the new Christi's through them. They are very nice and helpful people and I get stuff fast too!

I want to find somewhere to get a step like Cathe uses. Mine is shorter and it's not possible to use it when doing weights and it is 6 1/2" high and I want to lower to 4" because of my knees.

Boy, I got on a bit of a ramble there. I figure if I really want something there is a way to get it if it is out there....I guess sometimes I just get plain lazy.

I think I'll get looking for Canadian sites for that step and make a phone call for that book.....Thanks again:)

RE: Hi Susan

Hi Crystal....The food thing is what gets to me too. I just love to exercise but I just love to eat too!

There are ways to get around that....Honeybunch says she eats lots and she's no heavyweight....she just lifts them ;-).

I am determined too! I like to try new foods and new recipes, so that looks like what I will be doing in the low fat way.

Keep up the good attitude...it's good for you too :) !

RE: Hi Susan

Those sites that help you keep track of what you eat are really helpful...I've been using the USDA-CNPP Interactive Health Site, and it's great! I keyed in what I was going to eat today to see if there was room for that big old piece of cracked wheat bread I wanted for supper, but I saw that it put me over my limit. Aimee uses Diet Watch, and that's a good one, too.

It's always a struggle! It took me YEARS before I could have cans of cake frosting in the house without eating it. But I'm getting so much better that I now have had marshmallows in the pantry for about 3 weeks and haven't finished them off! See, I do that food diary, and I don't want to add to it.

It's all a matter of little tricks, and different stuff works for different people. We're way ahead of the game by exercising on a regular basis....most people would rather jump off a bridge than exercise every day. So even if our eating habits aren't the greatest, we're still better off.

Thanks Honeybunch

You have learned so many tricks to eating that you are passing on. I have a real sweet tooth like you....I can relate to the cans of cake frosting and marshmallows!

I can't get the Dr Shapiro book right now but I did look it up under Prevention and it looked interesting. I took the test too!

I do basically know the right things to eat I just don't do it consistently. I have to cut it down to one treat day a week and make sure I do eat. Sometimes I won't eat til nearly 1:00 and it is just because I have started doing something and don't get around to eating not because I want to eat less.

My husband us supportive of the video habit (reasonably so). He goes to a gym and prefers the machines to free weights. He also doesn't mind trying new foods and recipes...so I can have some fun there.

I think my best bet is to go back to using a food journal for a while. It did work for me in the past. I did look up the Diet Watch site but I couldn't find the other. I don't know if that is something I would stick with....I don't like the fuss of it.

Thanks for all your input. :) This is something I can do.
