The Cost of Fitness!

Tonight I went out looking for a weighted vest. I came home with a medicine ball, a stability ball, 2 - 5 lb plates, 2 - 10 lb plates, push-up bars (I don't know why - they just looked cool!), a 20 lb weighted vest and 6 packs of nonfat chocolate pudding! Yikes! I spent $147.00! Add that to the $77.00 I spent on preordering Cathe's videos - I think I've finished Christmas Shopping for myself! :D

A president of Harvard University, Derek Bok, once said, "If you think the cost of education is high, try the cost of ignorance."

The cost of fitness, to me, is always an investment; I figure for every dollar I spend on good equipment or workouts, I save, easily, $30-$50 down the road in reduced health care costs because I've spared myself the chronic conditions of sedentary living combined with the aging process.

And I figure that every hour I spend in intelligent, purposive exercise saves me at least 10 hours of medical treatment.

You're worth it, Margie!

I was thinking the same thing as A-jock. The cost savings down the road in medical expenses alone justifies your purchases. Not to mention the emotional and mental expense of illness due to not staying fit. If I had the money, I'd buy more fitness stuff, too!

Enjoy your new things and may you be healthier by using them.

Aquajock,

I really like the way you put that! I couldn't agree more!!! Would you mind emailing that to my husband for me, please :D?

I was thinking the exact same thing!!!! I didn't figure a value per dollar like you did, but with the average doctor visit costing $80 - $120 just to see the doctor (not including any lab test cost) $150 on exercise equipement seems like a drop in the bucket.

RE: Dawn -

Thanks for the voice of the kindred spirit! I obviously pulled those numbers out of thin air (and the air is always extremely thin in A-Jockland), but being a fullscale cheapazoid I think I'm saving me, hubby and society a lot of money by buying and using exercise products - and Cathe's products are right of there with heavier weights!

Oh my...yes! Me going into a place like that is like my husband going through the tool section at Sears!!!! EXPENSIVE!!!

My chiropractor appointments have dropped considerably - so I guess I'm money ahead after all! Thanks Aquajock - I think I'll order Powerstrike videos next!

I just love you gals! It is so nice to find some folks as crazy as me! I thought I was the only one who ever e-mailed my DH posts... to prove a point:)

Anyway... I am with ya'! I try to do a whole ROI (Retun on Investment) for him. I tell him how if you divide all the money by the # of uses, results etc... it is pennies on the dollar.

So far he doesn't give me too many probs. All I get is the roll of the eye and the "do you really think you need another Cathe video??" I always say "YES" and pop it in the DVD and make him watch it for a couple minutes. Works like a charm! He hasn't asked for the last few:)

I do agree it is soooo expensive and sooooo addicting. I just can't stop when I go in those stores!

Glad to know I am not the only one:)
