SPOOKY STORIES ?

In honour of Hallowe'en next week, has anyone got any spooky stories they would like to share with us ?

Happy Hallowe'en

Anna :)

I used to work at a small ad agency housed in an old house in a historic district that was supposedly haunted. I never heard any explanation of why it would be haunted, but several employees claimed they'd heard doors opening and shutting and sounds like someone was moving around when they were working late alone.

One guy swore he was in his office upstairs when he heard the front door open and close. He knew the door was supposed to be locked, so he quickly came down the front staircase to check and never found anyone. Another guy claimed he saw, out of the corner of his eye, someone moving down the hall past his doorway and there was no one there.

My husband and I were married in a Victorian mansion in the historic district that is supposedly haunted by the builder and original owner who dropped dead on the front sidewalk not too long after construction was completed. It is two stories with a third story tower room where he used to hang out with his friends playing cards and drinking during the prohibition days. The current owners - it's now a B & B - claim they've seen him and have restored the card playing room complete with table, chairs, cards and whiskey bottles with glasses. If you're interested you can read all about it at www.theempress.com.

Hi!
We've been spooked by the darn sniper(s) since Oct 2nd. I have had enough share of the real fear (for my child), I am spooked up!(is that a real word-phrase or I just made it up?!!!).
I am ready for thanksgiving and christmas.:)

Hi bfj,

I totally agree, I have been horrified here in the UK, at what has taken place in Maryland/Washington DC/Virginia. I cannot begin to imagine what everyone has gone through in the US. All those lives lost, I feel so much for the families. Absolutely shocking. Thank God they have been caught.

'Spooked' is a very good word to describe it.

Hi All,

Here is my Hallowe'en story (it has been hard choosing because I have had so many weird experiences). The first house my DH and I bought was a small Very Late Georgian cottage, built in the 1830s, just before Queen Victoria came on the throne. It was the first cottage in a row of three, and they had been built by a Lord, who owned the land in this particular village, for his estate Gardeners, who looked after his livestock, and orchards, and gardens. They were affectionately known as the gardeners cottages. The house had a lovely, friendly atmosphere, but we did experience some strange stuff. We had a catflap in the door at the back of the house, and at the time we owned a cat, but the cat flap would make a noise as if a cat had come through it, when our cat was always in the house asleep. We would always search the house for the stray cat, but could never find it.
The cat also used to stare incessantly at the living room doorway (adult height), and so did my eldest daughter who as a baby also used to stare at the doorway like the cat. And I did actually see a man stood in the doorway, only once though, he appeared and disappeared quite quickly.
If I was on my own in the living room, and my daughter was having a nap in her bedroom. The room would fill up with the smell of tobacco, like a cigarette that had just been lit, but without the smoke. And I always used to think, who is smoking ? I had given up a few years before this. This strange thing happened a lot. Once, I felt someone put their hands on my hips as if to squeeze past me while I was washing pots, the kitchen was incredibly narrow, and if two of you wanted to be in the kitchen at the same time, you would have to put squeeze by each other.
DH and I had the same experience at the same time one evening, and a most horrible smell drifted from the kitchen, into the living room, and seemed to disappear out through the front door. The front door led straight into the living room. It was like a kind of rotting vegetable, compost, manure type smell. I did accuse my DH of horrible gas, which he strongly denied, because after the smell drifted past me, it then drifted past him (we were sat in different parts of the living room, he was closest to the front door). This horrible smell, came and went so quickly. But, don't forget this cottage was originally a Gardeners cottage, makes you wonder doesn't it ?

This spooky story comes from England and my Great-Grandma and Grandma.

After the death of her father, my grandma moved back in with her mom to take care of her and her dog. Her mom was never the same after her husband'death and it was two years to the day that her mother passed away. Needless to say the dog was heartbroken. It spent three days howling at the top of the stairs then disappear on the fourth day. My Grandma searched the house but could not find the dog until the next day. The dog had taken her masters slippers and slide under the bed to die.

My grandmother went to back to work and returned home at her usual time of 5:00 pm. When she came through the front door with the mail she absentmindly looked up and there was her mom and the dog standing at the top of the stairs. They gave my grandma a little wave and smiled down to her. My grandma waved back and watched as they slowly faded away.

Is this spooky or what? It gave my grandma quite a scare and then she said it warmed her heart to know that her mom was fine and the dog had found her master.

Happy Halloween everybody!

The link is at the bottom, but read the story first - It's touching

One of my cousins has recently moved to the Scottsville,KY area & told me of this extraordinary event that happened on the property of some newly
acquired friends. Apparently his neighbors, owners of a house about 25 miles southeast of Scottsville,KY have been seeing images & hearing voices in their home for quite a while. They did some research & found that a lady(family name of Howell) once lived in the house who lost her husband during the Civil War. Legend says that she used to sit at her table & look across the fields in anticipation of her husband returning home. Unfortunately, he never came. So, they say she still waits.
Leaving on a special camera & recording for 8 hours, the owners captured this live 60 second audio/video of what they claim to be her. They used a special Infrared camera (on loan from the Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green) with a interferometer using aperture synthesis techniques that captured the unexplained phenomena. My cousin said the video was not
doctored up in any way, & honestly, I don't see how it could be.

I don't know if I really believe in ghosts or not, but this one was a little spooky once you find the apparition in the picture. It took me a few minutes to find it, but when you do it just stands out.

To save you some time, concentrate around the table. Look around the table & toward the window, you'll see a smoky silhouette of a lady wrapped in a shawl with a kerosene/coal oil lamp beside her; I could actually see the sorrow in her face hoping to see her husband walk into the yard, but knowing he never would again.

Below is the link for the picture. Best to enlarge. Best turn up your speaker volume, it's faint but you can hear the unexplained phenomena talking sometimes in a low murmur. Sounds like a prayer.

Hi fit@home,

I looked and looked and couldn't see anything ? I will keep going back to the picture throughout the day, and looking intently. Such a sad story, though :-(

Thank you for your concerned words. I live in Virginia, just 20 minutes away from DC and Maryland. I felt alive again. Kids and everyone here finally came out from hidden worlds and being able to enjoy fresh air without being spooked. Everyone and everywhere here is trying to catch up the lost times. I am rushing to buy Holloween costumes and goodies for children.

I considered this as a good lesson and thinking that life is too short to waste. I like to make best and live in full each and every day and extra hugs to my kid and family.

cybersis -

I got goosebumps up and down my body. I could actually feel the hairs on my scalp stand up! What a CREEPY (but heartwarming, kinda, sorta) story!
