Really off the wall question

O.k., this may be a wierd question but I was wondering, what sort of moisturizers do you guys use? The reason I ask is because everytime I find a moisturizer that I like...it burns the heck out of my eyes when I workout and start sweating! I need something that keeps my combination skin from getting too dry or greasy yet won't blind me when I start to sweat. I'm a pretty heavy sweater and right now I'm using Aveno and that stuff had me stopping every few minutes for a while, I guess I eventually sweated most of it off. I've tried washing my face before my workouts and not putting on any moisturizer, but my skin felt very tight even after I started to sweat, so that can't be good.:) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I told you my question was really off the wall.:)

I personally use Origins and Body Shop. I love both of them! For Origins I use "Make a Difference" and then "Look Alive" for the extra moisturizing one. For Body Shop I use an "illuminating" one but I forgot the name of it. The Body Shop also has some great scrubs, shower gels and lotion that smells soooooo good. I love the Mango one and Sutra (sp??) one.

I have really dry skin but also have a problem with getting oily and small zits in places when I work out a lot. I find that if I use a good scrub (origins makes a good one called "Never a Dull Moment") it helps a lot. I also use a body scrub before shower gel all over. It helps the oily areas on my neck and chest where I sweat a lot. If I don't use it I break out.

Don't worry, it is not a weird question at all. We women (and Men) have to share our good ideas. I am always looking for new products too and love to learn from the experience of others.

p.s. now I have my hubby hooked on the body shop stuff too. He just bought some new body soap bars and a sponge the other day:)

Hi DeeDee,

I also get this too, but I don't think it is your moisturiser, once moisturiser has been applied, it sinks into the skin within 30 minutes - are you wearing mascara while working out ? That could be it (that is my culprit) and do you use hair products ? Hair collects alot of sweat, and it drips on to the forehead, which rolls into the eyes (our eyebrows are suppose to stop this, but I don't think the Maker knew about Cathe when he created faces ! LOL).
Having said that sweat will sting your eyes anyway, because it is salty.
Why not sport a sweatband (like Cathe in Body Max) ? Or keep your hair away from your forehead with an Alice band ?

Sorry this has probably been no help, but i too get this happenening to me too.

Thank you both for your ideas. I wear my hair pulled back in a ponytail completely off the forehead when I workout. I can't stand the feel of wet hair slapping my face.:) I don't wear any makeup when I workout. I was my face and brush my teeth about an hour to a half hour before I workout. When I don't wear moisturizer, the sweat doesn't sting my eyes at all, but my face just feels very tight. I don't wear headbands, because I get the occasional zit...usually on my forehead (can you believe it, I get gets and I'm almost 35!). There was a while back when I had no problem with burning eyes when I would sweat, but I can't remember for the life of me what I was using at the time.:)

Thanks,

DeeDee

Hi DeeDee,

Do you use an eye cream or place moisturiser around your eye ? If you do, it might be worth leaving these off before a workout ?
Also, do you really need to cleanse before a workout ? IMO, I would leave the facial products off the skin until you have worked out.

Eucerin Sensitive skin lotion is what I use. Other moisturizers sting my eyes when I sweat too. This one does not.

I use a tiny bit of almond oil rubbed all over my face after I wash it. It soaks in, doesn't sting anything, is totally natural and inexpensive. You can put other essential oils in there too, but then they might sting you.

I swear by Oil of Olay. It moisturizes my skin nicely, contains SPF 15 and does not sting. I actually rub it all over my face and even on my eyelids (they tend to get very dry) and it does not sting my eyes at all. In fact, I only use Oil of Olay as my sunscreen for my face when I go to the beach because all other sunscreens have caused my face/eyes to sting.

You get the zits probably because the band was not washed after use? You should wash it everytime after you use it and clean your skin after a workout. I have clense and tone after a workout.

For the last 2 or 3 years, I've been using a great moisturizer called Cetaphyll. It's made by Galderma and can be found in most major drug stories here in Canada. A large container costs about $14 Canadian (probably much cheaper in the States).

It's fragrance-free and I find even if I apply it around the eyes I don't have any trouble with stinging. It also goes on light (a little dab'll do you) and is not sticky, greasy or cloying. I have dry skin and Cetaphyll really does the job of keeping my face moisturized. I also put in on my lips to keep them from chapping -- no after taste and it stays on longer than vaseline.

Of course, you can also use Cetaphyll as a whole body moisturizer.

Matter of fact, they featured it a couple of months ago on "The View" as one of the best moisturizers around. There is also a Cetaphyll cleanser -- again fragrance free.
