Quintessential Christmas Moments (Long)

I have two that sum it all up for me. This is the first:

"And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.
"Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"

And what happened then...?
Well...in Who-ville they say
That the Grinch's small heart
Grew three sizes that day!
And the minute his heart didn't feel quite so tight,
He whizzed with his load through the bright morning light
And he brought back the toys! And the food for the feast!
And he...

...HE HIMSELF...!
The Grinch carved the roast beast!"

This is the second:

"And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them! And they were sore afraid ... And the angel said unto them, "Fear not! For, behold, I bring you tidings o great joy, which shall be to all my people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord."

"And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." And suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on Earth peace, and good will toward men."

"That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."

i always cry at the part of charlie brown. memories have rushing home to watch it. man was it dissappointing if you missed it.

Yes Shelley,
I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love them both and watch them both every single year, and probably always will !

Those are 2 of my favorite X-Mas shows..http://www.capricorn007.com/9103/grinch2.gif[/img].:)...well, besides Rudolph...:+ :7 ..Carole

That does sum it up. Sometimes we forget amid the hustle and bustle that the holidays bring what the true meaning really is.

Thanks Shelley for posting this! We (my kids and me) have already watched The Grinch movie. Still have to pull out Charlie Brown.

I keep trying to tell my dh's family that we should downsize the gifts to just the kids. NO luck this year. I think I'm getting there though. We should just focus on spending time together.

Thank you, Shelley,

I couldn't agree with you more!

Michele:)

P.S. My DH always cries when the Grinches heart grows!

i hear ya on the whole gift thing ,dallas. i am tryign to get hubby to stop buying gifts for all the adults in my family. they acutally get pissy if you get them something after they say NO. and his mom just criticizes everything we do get, so why should i waste my time or money on all that.

the kids, though, how long are they going to believe in the magic of santa claus and xmas cookies and watching xmas movies. its fun watching their little eyes light up. we watched the lighting of rockefeller tree last night. tomorrow night starts abc family channel's 25 days of xmas with all the xmas theme movies and saturday they are having the animated classics. its why i try to get shopping done early, i want to have time to watch movies with viola then trying to fight crowds.

I agree Shelley about the Jim Carrey version. Actually, my kids get a little freaked out by that one.

Kassia ~ I'm with you on how long the kids will "believe in the magic of Santa Claus". It's such a short time of their little lives. In fact, we just took them to sit on Santa's lap and my little guy was in awe! He was literally speechless. The Santa our mall had this year looked like the real thing. He was an awesome Santa. You could tell he really cared. It brought tears to my eyes!
