PS Legs and Upper Body

Hello everyone,

Has anybody ever done PS Legs and Upper Body on consecutive days? I did PS upper body segments last night and would like to do the lower body today otherwise I won't get in my PS for the week. This is alright isn't it? It works different parts of the body so it doensn't count as 2 days of weights.

Yen

Yes!

Hi Yen~It is fine to do upper body one day and lower the next. I do all 3 PS tapes consecutively many times and then break for at least two days and sometimes do a total body to work each body part twice a week. Have fun with that killer bodybar section at the end! Just did it Tuesday! Whew! :-tired

RE: Yes!

Thanks Debbie,

I thought so, but just need confirmation.

Do you have the body bar? I have only barbell and I use that but it's a bit fiddly. I must admit, I put off starting PS for ages because I just don't want to buy more equipment.

RE: Yes!

Yes, I have several bodybars ranging from 4.5 pounds to 30 pounds. I am an equipment nut! I used to use an 18# bodybar for that LB section until I finally got a 15# like Cathe was using. Man, unbelievable what a difference 3 pounds can make. I'm sure a barbell is harder to control. You could also use ankle weights if you have them??? Have fun. Let me know how it goes! :7

Hi Yen, I'm doing PS right now also and like Deb, I do them on consecutive days (CST-Mon/Legs-Tue/BBA-Wed). You can do weights back to back as long as you're not working the same muscle group. So upper one day and lower the next is fine.

*Deb is in the "warrior queen" catagory with the floor work + body bar! I STILL cannot get up to using the body bar. I can complete each set without any weight at all, and look at Cathe like she's crazy when she says, "and those of you at home not using any weight, you can just keep going, we'll wait here for you!" Man, I am rolled over on my side rubbing my hips/upper thigh area like a wounded dog at that point. And sometimes I can't even manage the little stretch she does because the muscles are just so tight/sore/? to move into that position.
So to all of you who have mastered the floorwork AND use a body bar: "cyber-curtsy" your highnesses! :)

LAST EDITED ON Nov-07-02 AT 08:57AM (Est)[p]Hello Donna,

You are early as usual. Can I ask if you have all of the equipment or just the basics like dumbbells and barbell? I have only the few dumbbells and 2 barbells. I would only buy a bicep curl bar and that is it.

I hate it when they bring out videos with different equipment all the time, like Cathe now has medicine ball and stability balls. Home fitness is supposed to be cost effective and space efficient. Not if I have to keep spending money and clutter my living room (I have a one bedroom flat). I only want to spend money on new videos every few months.

I have to ask because you said you were the 'penny piching, coupon clipping......' kinda chick (me exactly!).

I think the nice thing about Cathe tapes is that she has gradually introduced new equipment. It is also great for variety. Many of the moves she does can be supplemented with what YOU have. Of course, if you are new to Cathe and buy all her tapes, there is quite a bit of expense to getting all the equipment but I still think it is much cheaper then joining a club since you will always have your equipment. JMO! (Of course, I am addicted and need it!)

Donna~I'm not sure about the "warrior queen" but I DO try. That is not to say it is EVER easy! I can relate with the "sooo tight", I can hardly sit up to stretch!!!! Wooo-boy! Keep at it. It DOES get a mite easier! :7

Hi Yen,

On the PS floor work, you have the option of ankle weights or no weights as Donna suggested. You can also hold a dumbbell on your lifting leg.

On Cathe's new workouts, I'm pretty sure she said someone would be demonstrating an alternative to the medicine & big ball.

Imagine Cathe's dilema, keep things very simple w/ equipment vs satisfying the equipment junkies who want to follow the latest fitness trends. She seems to have found a good balance.

RE: Yes!

In place of the body bar , I use an 8# dumbbell for the inner and outer thighs, place right on the leg thigh. I put the other leg behind the leg being lifted. Cathe does suggest this leg position as an alternative.

For the hamstrings I just use both 8# dumbbells on my lap. It works.

The PS series was the first set of Cathe tapes I tried. I had five pound ankle weights and a set of 8 and 10 pound dumbbells. This was all I used for a long time. Now, I also have a barbell and plates - borrowed from my hubby.

I don't own a body bar and the workout can be done very well without one. For the floor legwork, I strap on my 5 pound ankle weights and hold either an 8 or a 10 pound dumbbell on my inner or outer thigh.

As far as the new workouts go, I intend to try them a few times and see if I can modify where they use the balls.

I'm with Donna on those PS inner thigh lifts. I can't even finish all the reps without weight. Anyone who can do them with a Body Bar is a better woman than me. I always wonder how my inner thighs got so out of shape.

Yen:

when you get to the floor work, I don't have ankle weights or body bar, and nor do I intend to purchase them, what you could do to add resistance is use the hand of the arm you are not leaning on and press down on your thigh, so you are working against your hand pressure to raise that leg. I did this in the Summer and got good results: you have to make sure you don't cheat!

I agree with you guys on the floorwork. It is a real shock to your muscles after doing alot of standing leg work. I also LOL to Donna when she likens herself to an injured dog....I feel the same way. First time I did the floorwork I thought I would be SO SORE in the outer hips, but was not. My hamstrings were quite wasted though.

Overall, I was dissapointed in the intensity of PS. You feel like the tapes are so short, coming off of PH and S&H. They just don't feel too intense and much faster than I would have liked. I would LOVE for Cathe to come up with something in between S&H and PS. Just a little slower than MIS. Can't have it all, right??

Thanks guys,

Well, you know what? I didn't get to do PS Legs yesterday. I came home intending to it and then have dinner, but I was so hungry I had dinner and was going to do it at 10.00pm before bed time, but I was soooooooo tired I went to bed.

I was desperate to do it yesterday because I knew I would be out today and tomorrow I have a friend staying over, which means I won't get to work out till Sunday.......... I think will just have to do with friend in the house on Saturday.
