PROTEIN SHAKES

>I HAVE HEARD ABOUT JAY ROBB WHEY AND EGG PROTEIN. ANYONE TRY
>THESE AND WHICH IS BETTER AND WHY?

Jay Robb is my favorite, hands down. I have tried a lot of protein powders before and they taste awful!!! Kind of like wallpaper paste (or what I imagine wallpaper paste would taste like :) ).

I use both the whey and egg protein. I think the egg protein is a little "lighter" consistency, the shake doesn't get as thick as with the whey powder and the taste is not quite as "powderey", if that makes sense.

If I remember it correctly the egg protein is also a little lower in calories. About 10 or 20 kcal per scoop.

I do LOVE both of them though.

Great info listed above! :)

Can anyone recommend a protein shake that is very healthy, will promote maximum muscle growth, but will not make me fat?? :)

THANK YOU!

And where can I get it??

Thanks again!

I have always been too scared of the calories to drink a protein shake. That said, I started to read The Eat Clean Diet book so hopefully that will teach me a few things!

Looking forward to answers on this.

Hi Kate,

I too will purchase Eating Clean.

I can't wait to read this book!

I would like to drink protein shakes after lifting weights. But I worry about putting on fat. I can't afford this! :)

THANK YOU!

I think the mistake that most people are making, is to just add the protein shake to their diet. Whereas it supplies valuable nutrition and protein, it still has calories.

I make mine with fruit, yogurt, milk or juice and it always is over 300 kcal. I eat 5 to 6 meals and eat as clean as possible (I also read Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet, I don't stick to it 100 % though - some of it is too strict for me), however, protein shakes are a meal replacement for me.

I think they are awesome for breakfast, or if I run short on time for lunch or dinner, and probably would eat junk otherwise. They are easy and fast to make, works well for me.

I agree completely with Carola. I used to be "afraid" of protein shakes (thinking they were too many calories or wouldn't fill me up) until I read Tosca Reno's book. I also try to eat 5-6 small meals a day and often my morning meal is a protein shake. I use ice, water, whey protein, fruit (usually a banana), flaxseed, bee pollen, and wheat germ. I am always full and feel satisfied and it teastes GREAT! I even made one for DF the other day (he had been making fun of me about them) and he loved it. I like the vanilla whey protein. There are a lot of good brands. I can't remember which one I am using right now. I got it at a health food store. Trader Joe's also has protein powder.

I haven't tried the egg protein. Maybe next time.

Thank you so much everyone!!!!!!

I actually love Trader Joe's. Did you say there is a good protein powder that I should try?

Thank you again! :)

I actually got one from there. I can't remember the brand, but it has something on it about being specially formulated for womoen. It's about $8 a can. Anyway, I didn't like it as much as the pne I got from the health food store. I did see other brands at TJ's which may be better. It wasn't bad at all, just not as good.

Another protein powder I recommend is Muscle Milk Lite if you're trying to put on mass. I guarantee you it will work. I gained 25 pounds of muscles with MM Lite and clean eating. Whey Gourmet by PVL is very good, too. I used to drink Jay Robb's but stopped. Another real good one I highly recommend is Syntha-6. I'm not sure if you're concerned about sucralose or not. If you're concerned about sucralose, Jay Robb is the way to go as well as ON 100% Whey Natural which is made of stevia. Look for the beige container, but if you're not concerned about sucralose, the ones I mentioned above are great. Hope this helps.
