Good morning!

Trying to talk myself into doing a workout, feel lazy today. I have a lot of stuff on my to do list that isn't getting done either.

Beautiful day yesterday, hope it stays the same today. I need to get some of the beds in the yard cleaned up.

Have a great weekend! :D

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

It's beautiful here, Deb, and tomorrow promises to be a taste of summer--going up in the 70s for at least one day. I'll take it! Yesterday was both Housemax and major garden cleanup. Things are already beginning to sprout a bit underneath all that junk. We heard one peeper last night. Maybe tonight we will hear that familiar chorus. Two nights in a row and the tradition says, no more winter.

Off to a rural lands function tonight. Serving DH's pork as the main course.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Good morning!!

Today I did Cardio Coach #4, which is becoming my favorite one. 40 minutes, 283 calories.

It's 72 degrees here right now at 5:16 am!! :D, Love it!!

Valerie, are you back yet?

Garance, how was the dinner with DH's pork?

Joan, are you out of that pile of returns yet?

Cathy, stop by when you can,

Josie, any more rides on the calendar?

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Deb, our menu: maple wheat baguettes with handmade butter, beet tarte tatin with micro greens, mesclun greens with maple balsamic vinaigrette; milk braised pork shoulder with caramelized onion, mushrooms, baby spinach, baked semolina gnocchi, maple molten chocolate cake, and either chardonnay (domaine tariquet, France 2009) or pinot noir, (villa wolf, germany 2008). The farms participating: cricket creek farm, goat rising, equinox farm, EAST MOUNTAIN FARM (DH), gammelgarden creamery, helen's happy hens, high lawn farm, and sweet brook farm. Everything was scrumptious! Especially the pork. I only ate half of the dessert, which was sinfully rich. We had a great time.

It's beautiful here today, so I am hoping to leave early and do more garden clean-up.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Hi Ladies,

The weekend went well. I did the chest and back DVD from supreme 90 and I'm a bit sore today. I liked it; I will be doing the ultimate ball workout tomorrow. I will be using these DVD’s on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays in the order recommended.

Garance, I just gained 5 pounds just reading the menu;)

Deb, I have not used any of my cardio coach cd's. I might have to give them another try.
I don't have any more rides planed until the end of April.

I will be on vacation starting the 14th and returning on the 25th. My DH and I are going to New York for a long weekend and then I will be picking up my grandkids for the Easter break. I can't wait.

I will be busy from now on, but will check in when I can. Have a great week ladies.

Josie

I'm back! Had a decent trip though a lot of driving for a week. stopped in sacramento and went cycling and snowshoeing with our niece for 2 days. ate some good food, met her new man. (she considers us her second set of parents) She's so much fun to be with, wish we could have stayed longer. then on to Fresno. stayed at BIL's house, he has a RV parking pad and we just barely fit in. had to trim a few tree branches but we got in, and ti was quiet and comfortable, better than on the street.
spent 2 days visiting with assorted family and hospice. FIL was not as bad off as we thought he'd be but still stressful and difficult. He's sick but DH and I agree, not as sick as he wants people to think.
stopped near redding on the way back and did a little hiking and cycling but overall not a strenuous vacation. I feel like a blob. nothing like sitting and driving for days on end. flowers were lovely in California, and it was sunny. what a change. not our usual very active vacation but there simply wasn't enough time to get in more exercise this time.

Josie, congrats on doing the ride! Be proud, that is a LOT of miles in a day.

Linda, that sounds like a lovely dinner, but I agree, 5 lbs would jump on board! cause I would eat ALL the dessert. love love chocolate. I'm guessing peepers are frogs?

I need to read last weeks thread, I just glanced at it. need to get in a small warm up workout this afternoon. we were going to mt bike but it rained too much again and we lost our enthusiasm.

Good morning,

I had a crappy night so no workout this morning. Tell me how we can have 72 degrees one day and now it is 42? Sheesh..

Valerie, welcome back! It sounds like you had a good trip.

Garance, I would have to diet for 2 weeks before eating that meal! Yum...

Josie, Let me know what you think of the Ultimate Ball workout. I have never done that one. I am just using the weight ones for now. The Chest & Back is the only one that seems to go at a frantic pace for some reason. The others are a bit slower. Someone in editing must have told them to slow down. What I have to comment on is the actual people doing the workout. They are like robots or something, never crack a smile or make any kind of gesture, communication with the lead guy at all. They look kind of bored or miserable about being there. Not like in P-90x when Tony Horton talks or jokes they laugh and comment.

Still waiting for spring...take care...

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Skinny Sculpt (45 min.).

Welcome back, Valerie! Yep, peepers are tree frogs and when they come out, they create a lovely night time racket. Very soothing somehow.

Deb, I know, I know--yesterday was so lovely and warm. Not too bad today, though, because it's up in the 50s, but I wanted more than a taste of summer. I really wasn't full from that meal. I saved half of my entree for dinner last night because DH had a ref meeting, and combined it with a small leftover of chicken and cashew stirfry. My real temptation, guys, was the bread. I wanted to eat a whole loaf of that stuff it was so good, but restrained my urge with one piece. Other people were wiping up their plates with it to get every last bit of that pork dish.

Josie, where are you going out to eat in the Big Apple? NYC has the best food in the whole world to my mind. And I would definitely hit Zabar's before going home.

ttfn

time to get back in the exercise groove. My diet wasn't horrible, actually pretty restrained but still very little activity compared to normal so I don't want to look at the scale and get depressed. I took apples and carrots for snacking and skipped most desserts. yesterday I ran on the treadmill for 20 min and did an ab workout. this morning yoga. so, need to get going on meso 2 today. should have gone longer but we were selling a bike rack on craigs list and had to go meet the buyer. that worked well, first time we've done it.

Love the tree frogs. sometimes there are so many all chirping at once, it's a chorus that goes on for hours. so tiny and cute, I find them in the garden all the time. sometimes they climb up on my deck ( very high above ground) and get in my hanging plants. so cool to watch their sticky pad feet on the window.

while at the BIL's house, he pulled out the Alice in Wonderland DVD to watch ... turns out he and his wife love it too, and in one of those very weird moments of unexpected connection... he pulled out the lyrics he'd downloaded to "White Rabbit". I had done the same thing! we just looked at each other and laughed! they'd never turned on the subtitles and had downloaded translations of the strange words that play a part in the movie so we showed them how useful subtitles can be.

Deb, the little "over reaction guy" is so cute! I dislike videos where there's no interaction between the people doing the workout. there was an exercise program that fit tv used to run that was like that, Gilad.. haven't looked lately since it seemed they changed their format to all Dr G reruns.

Still buried in returns with no end in sight.

While waiting for a return to print, I have decided to start a grass roots movement to stop Saturday delivery of mail. If everyone writes their Senators and Congressman maybe we could actually get them to do something positive. Surely it would reduce the usage of gasoline by millions of gallons per week. The prices would only go to $8 per gallon instead of $10.

Good morning,

No workout, a patient called around 12:20 am DH ended up sending her to the ER. I could not go back to sleep for a while, and kept waking up aftewards. Yawn.

Garance, I have never seen a peeper, nor heard one either, mmmm.. strange. I'm there with you on the bread. Give me a good loaf of bread, some butter, and coffee and I have a meal. Not a good one for dieting.

Valerie, did you start Meso 2? Is your DH doing it too? Do you do any of the cardio workouts from the last series? The one with STS Total Body, not the STS cardio ones. LOL about you downloading White Rabbit

Joan, no deliveries on Saturday would probably be missed for about 2 weeks, then no one would care any more. The ones that it would hurt are people that need to mail packages at the PO. Maybe if they stop delievering mail, but I hope they keep the PO open on Sat morning like it is now. I always mail packages on Sat am. We are almost at $4 a gallon here.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Zumba Cardio Party (55 min.).

I made the yummiest sandwiches last night for dinner--pancetta fried like bacon, provolone, basil, a few fried, chopped onions, parmesan shavings, and after the sourdough bread is toasted and the provolone melted on it, you fry some eggs and put that in the middle. Dh was audibly impressed--mmmmmmmmmmmmm! The recipe was in the buzz box over at epicurious.com.

Deb, I hate calls in the middle of the night. They scare me. Wow, an emergency room for teeth problems? What went wrong? Did your dh have to meet her in the emergency room?

Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton? Except for Edward Scissorhands, I really am creeped out by Burton's stuff. So this is one I did not see.

Joan, we are closing in on $4 a gallon here, but I heard that the price of a barrel went down yesterday. I have also heard that if it goes up to $120 a barrel, we should all prepare for a double dip recession. Ugh!

Hi Ladies,

I'm trying to clean out my desk before I go on vacation. Sometimes I wonder if it is worth taking a vacation, so much to do when you leave and then a ton of work piled up when you return!

Deb, the ball DVD was very good; it is mostly an ab workout.

Garance, we plan to go to Garage in the village. We discovered it the last time that we went to NY. The food was amazing and the entertainment was also very good. We also plan on going to the Blue Note for some jazz and SOB (Sounds of Brazil) for a little dancing.

Joan, I hope that you get some rest after the deadline.

Hi Valerie and Cathy.

Josie

Did disk 13 yesterday, the first in meso 2. Yeah, Deb, DH is doing it too, and did it earlier in the day. I didn't get to it until 3;30 but I had yoga from 7-8 am. I got a little sore, but I increased weight in a few places. It's a lot easier if both people are in the same meso cycle, and especially the same disk, cause you pull out the same "stuff" although he goes heavier than I do. I will find a pic of a tree frog Deb, if I can, and post it. they are so cute, I'd never heard them called peepers.

went mt biking this morning for 2-2.5 hours. forgot to stop my timer. muddy but fun.

We had an owl invasion of some sort last night, think it was barred owls at 1 am. hooting, and making all kinds of flapping and and cooing. wopke us up they were so loud. weird sounds but we've heard it before. I think they breed earlier in the season so maybe these were young owls out of the nest for the first time or something.

The Tim Burton "Alice" is terrific. so far it's my favorite movie by far of 2010. just don't usually connect with my BIL & his wife like that!! It was just the weirdest sensation when he pulled out the White Rabbit lyrics ( he's a lot younger than I am, probably 20 years) so I doubt he was a fan of grace slick and Jefferson airplane. I never quite get all the lyrics in songs and have done that on several lately, finally finding out what got garbled!

Re gas prices, we paid up to $4.49 on our trip last week. for some reason diesel is more expensive than anything, and it always used to be cheaper.. not cheap, but less.

Joan the PO giving up sat home delivery has been floated so many times. I have no idea why they bother, but it never seems to go anywhere. probably a chunk of people would lose their jobs.

we don't get calls at night much, only when DH is on call for the group. I sleep in the guest room that night, might be 5-10. one wake up I can handle but it never stops at one.

Good mornng,

Is is Saturday yet? This week is dragging. Still cold, only 35 degress right now. Rained last night but at least that stopped this morning.

Garance, that sandwich sounds good, I don't think I have ever had pancetta. what is it exactly? DH had a call earlier in the day from this patient, he perscribed anti-biotics, and was going to see her in the morning. She had an abscess of some kind that blew up and a high fever. He doesn't like to have someone wait on something like that so he sent her to the ER where they drained it etc. He will see her to address the issue now that the swelling and fever are down. No, he didn't go to the ER. I saw gas at $3.90 something when riding home last night. ugh. I can't check up on the KCM workout status, her site has been down for 2 days.

Josie, that is what I heard about that workout, they label it as "cardio" but it is really a core/ab workout. When are you leaving for NYC?

Valerie, thanks for posting the pic, no we don't have those here. I'm sure I would have run into one by now.

Off to work, take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Squeeze (56 min.).

Deb, I received my KCMs in the mail today. I will have to preview them over the weekend. Pancetta is like Italian bacon, but you don't have to cook it, although this particular recipe did call for it to be treated like bacon. Beautiful and 60 here today.

Had my annual physical today. Contemplating the shingles shot. Have you had one, Valerie?

Endless student conferences. Some of them don't show up, so I have 20 min. here and there. Very irritating.

Yes, I just got the shingles vaccine, a month ago. they are quite expensive( several hundred dollars) unless your insurance covers it, which mine did.
I already had shingles (in my mid-twenties) and it was no fun. don't want to repeat it. older people often get post herpetic neuralgia which can last a LONG time and be very unpleasant, so it's a good thing for most people to consider.... it's recommended for 60 and over. out here usually the pharmacies ( not the doctors offices) give them. it's good to call ahead and make sure they have it in stock. some stores have a 'shingles vaccine day" . It stung a little, and I had a warm sore spot on my upper arm for several days after, but nothing else.

It's cold nasty and wet here, spring is ridiculously late this year. we'll get a halfway decent day and then back to winter temps. last year was like this too, and our garden did badly.

Can you say FRIDAY!!!

Good morning!

Gaance, I never heard of a shingles shot, mmm....do they only offer it if you are over 60? I think I will start a KCM rotation with the new DVDs Sunday. I usually don't preview, just jump right in.

Valerie, Welcome to our weather! Only we are in the 50's and then the 30's.

Any fun things planned for the weekend?

Take care,

I can answer the shingles question. vaccine is called Zostavax. If you had chicken pox as a child, the virus lies dormant and can (sometimes) re-activate later in life causing a painful !! case of shingles. apparently it can happen more than once and in older people it sometimes remains active and causes pain and burning along the nerve pathway it has chosen. It can be extremely debilitating depending on which nerve is affected. I had it half way around my waist /upper hip. I was only in my 20's and had not had chicken pox until I was in my teens. I believe the vaccine is suggested for 60 and over. It's pricey if your insurance doesn't cover but most do. Your primary care will probably bring it up, it's gotten more attention lately.

so yesterday had my catch up yoga class. then ran 2 miles on the treadmill after a 15 min bike warm up, and the ab section from HR. today yoga again, and then some cardio and probably a leg workout. I've been lax with my cardio lately and that's probably why my weight loss has been so s..l...o...w. also weather has been so crummy that we haven't been getting in our hiking , skiing or biking as regular as usual. we will do 'something" saturday and sunday unless the weather is totally awful.

I will say DH ate every single one of the 5 boxes of GS cookies I bought. I didn't have even a bite. I've stayed with the zero cal sweetener. eating apples and carrots. yesterday I had peanut butter on my apple, I was so hungry at 4 oclock I felt weak.
