My DH needs justification for a Spin Bike

If I can show my hubby the difference between a stationary bike and a Spinning Bike, I might be able to justify getting one.

Any info would really help. Even links to show the difference. I just can't seem to convince him (with my research) yet, that there are great advantages with the spin bike compared to a stationary bike.

I need to be able to justify the cost. Can you help me?

Has he forgotten the two most important words in a man's vocabulary - yes dear. Sorry, I couldn't resist.:D

Here are a few articles you can look at:

Cathe Friedrich - Exercise Bikes vs. Spin Bikes: Choosing the Right One for Your Home Gym

Spinning Vs. Stationary Bike | LIVESTRONG.COM

Indoor cycling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I know there were also several threads on here in which people explained why stationary bikes could not be used effectively for Cathe's Cycle Max. I can't find them right now but I will let you know when I do.

Also, just for full disclosure for your DH, if you get a spin bike, you will also need to invest in spin shorts that are padded and spin shoes. Those can cost $50-60 on average for the shorts and $80-$100 for the shoes.

Hope this helps!

Does he own tools? If so, explain to him it's just a different tool. ;)
Tools all look the same to me, but apparently they do different jobs.:p:D

"Because Nan said so!" :p

That's all I've got. I'm still working on my DH. If you figure it out, let me know. :D

Thanks everyone for taking the time to get me the links, inspiring me what to say, and the humor. Very much appreciated.

I'm working on him. This is where we significant others show how clever we are without manipulating them. Or at least they think that. I'm going to have to try to make it look like it is all his idea. LOL

Wish me luck. This can be fun! I'm devising a plan, could take awhile. If I don't do this just right, it could backfire. No, I have confidence, and it's worth it.

Janie,

i'm not computer-savvy enough to figure out how to post a link, so I just copied something I originally posted back in May:

$8,365 a year will buy a lot of workouts!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of us who stress about all the Cathe (and other) workouts and equipment that we purchase, keep this in mind; according to a recent study released by George Washington University, the ANNUAL cost of obesity is $8,365! That's PER YEAR!
"Work, work!" (or should we say "charge, charge"?!!?)
Stay healthy, my friends!

$8,365 PER YEAR will more than cover a GOOD new spin bike, shorts, shoes, Cathe's entire new low-impact series, with money to spare!!! (and you get to start over again with another $8,365 next year!!!) Try that!

Take him to a sports shop and have him ride both of them on a test drive with a hopefully "knowledgable" salesperson to inform him why the spin is better than a stationary bike. After reading this thread, I will get a spin in the future even though I could get a stationary bike real cheap right now.

Darn! I'm not even close to that figure and the year is almost over. Guess I better get busy shopping!

Never thought about the cost of obesity. That's a good one! I always use the cost of a gym membership, gas to get there, etc. as justification to add to my home gym collection.

Janie, how did you go?

Just wanted to say that I was like you - waiting for DH's "OK" before buying a bike but you know what? One day I just went ahead and bought one - it was a cheapy from eBay, just in case I decided spinning was not really for me since I'd never even sat on a spin bike before I got my own. I figured since I had some birthday money from relatives to use up that I may as well buy something for myself that I really want, instead of something for the kids or family (which is what I usually do). Space is an issue at our house so I knew I would just have to find room for it, just as I had to find room for all my other fitness bits and pieces, and you know what? I did! It sits nicely in an unused corner, I have it on furniture sliders so I can move it easily from room to room since the front transport wheels don't work too well on our carpet (and the sliders double up as paper plate substitutes for STS leg routines - ahh those evil sliders!!) DH never once gave me a hard time for it either, even said he may use it too! (Someone get the smelling salts...) And you know what? I just LOVE it!! Have got a few dvds which are all very different but good in their own ways but am sooo looking forward to receiving Cathe's!
