Little Change = BIG change (fundraiser...long)

Hey guys. Just thought I'd share this with you all.

Many of you know that I do fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For the past 3 years in December, our elementary school runs Hat Day. Students and staff can wear a hat for the entire day after donating $1 to our fundraising efforts. It usually nets around $650 each year.

This year, after we ran that event, the Student Council Teacher Rep approached me and offered to do a Spring fundraiser, if I could come up with a different idea from other fundraisers the school has done.

I came up with a Coin Drive idea. My goal to to SHOW the kids that even helping out just a LITTLE bit, can add up to BIG changes. So we decided on a Coin Drive. Each homeroom had a bin of some sort. We collected coins Monday - Friday this past week. We did a mid-week count on Wednesday. I took 2 VERY HEAVY boxes to the bank and my kids and I spent over 90 minutes using their change machine. Keeping each class separate, we were able to tally up each homeroom. Wednesday's tally was over $1,100! We had the grade leaders and the SCHOOL leader announced on the school news Thursday morning.

We returned the bins Thursday and after school yesterday (Friday), I returned to the bank with those same 2 heavy boxes. The tally from Th & Fri was over $800. PLUS there were a few personal check donations totalling around $160.

Total collected in coins:
$2,000+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was floored!!!!!!!

As for prizes....the homeroom leading the entire school on Wednesday will receive a coupon for a free Rita's Italian Ice (donated by them). And the HOMEROOM for EACH grade that collected the most will be treated to an Ice Cream Sundae Party the week after next (hosted and arranged by yours truly).

Excellent example of how LITTLE CHANGE = BIG CHANGE!!!!!
