Knee Replacement Surgery

Hi all,

Anyone of our educated crowd go through knee replacement surgery. How was it, how did you deal with it, healing time, physical therapy??? I may have to make this decision sometime in the near future and I'm hoping that if I do go through with this that I will be able to return to my workouts.

Take care,

Iris

I don't have personal experience with this, but my coworker is getting this done in a few weeks. She's been at the point of walking with a cane and is in pain all the time. Since she has a desk job, she's suppose to be out about 4 weeks. Now my SIL's father inlaw had the surgery and in 2 weeks was up on their roof tearing it off and putting on a new one. I think recovery really depends on how fit you are now. The lady I work with is about 100lbs. overweight and doesn't excercise so I think her recovery is going to be very long.

Hi Beth!

Thank you. I may or may not go through with this. I'm going to seek other opinions and probably have arthroscopic surgery for now because the thought of a total knee replacement scares me to death. I'm thankful that I am healthy and fit and should I need the replacement I believe that my healing time will be shorter than with other people. I will come back with additional information as I do my research.

Thanks again Beth and take care,

Iris

My 54 yr old sister-in-law just had both knees partially replaced. It is a new procedure....she had it done in Boston. They insert a wedge in each knee. Her recovery has been long...had physical therapy for a month and a half, and started water exercise but she still feels uncomfortable bending her knees...says it just doesn't feel natural. She was never athletic however, which probably made her recovery harder.
