My 13 year nephew was just diagnosed with Juvenile Onset Arthritis. He had a sore wrist but does lots of atheletics so we thought it was probably just a sprain. Does anyone have any information or first hand experience with this? My brother said he will have to have a shot once a week that is sort of like chemotherapy. This is very scary!! Any info is appreciated.

Laura,

Years ago I had a 4 year old girl in my pre-school class that had RA. Her mother was also a friend of mine. Some of her fingers were slightly swollen at the joints and I think her mobility was a limited a little bit. She did not complain about any pain, but being so young, maybe she didn't know any better. I remember her mother taking her to the children's hospital every so often for check-ups and for an injection that I believe was quite effective. I remember her mother saying how brave she was when getting the injection in her finger. She is now 14 and I think doing well.

Not sure if I gave you much information, but that is my only experience.
I wish you all the best with your nephew.
