Insanity is insane!

Cathlete
I did my first workout with this series lastnight and all I can say is these workouts are killer. I consider myself in pretty good shape cardio wise and I was dying. I dont know if I myself want to workout that hard. OMG! I told myself I would complete at least a week and then decide. I cant beleive how hard these are, if one doesnt see results from these workouts there is something wrong. and if someone doesnt that would be me, thats usually how it goes for me but if I dont lose wt from these I wouldnt know what else to do besides clean eating. How many calories should you eat when doing this program. I am 5 2 1/2 134 lbs, 40 yrs old. thanks

In the Elite Nutrition book that came with the Insanity package it tells you on pgs. 10-11 how to determine your caloric needs while doing this program. HTH

i borrowed these and dont have the books that came with them. I did the 2nd workout this morning. Idont know if I will get thru this rotation or not. these are killer and I dread doing them so far. but do you eat more calories when doing this type of workouts?

If you already dreading, then it is going to be a long 2 months. Take breaks as needed. In the beginning, I paused the DVD to catch my breath and make sure I was ready to start up again. I considered myself to be in excellent shape also but in one month, have made tremendous gains. You should eat more to support your body if you aren't accustomed to doing workouts of this magnitude. If you get cranky, run down, etc, and are feeling hungry, then eat. Make sure you drink your water too, and make smart choices with your eats. Look at the rotation as a challenge and a chance for big improvements - maybe it won't be a drag anymore.

I am suuuper proud I did this rotation AND I was swearing like a sailor as I did it:eek:

I want a t shirt!!!!

My cardio endurance went through the roof and I got stronger too. I recently joined a gym and really kick butt there. I feel like when others are done I'm just getting ready to kick into gear. I feel like a sports car:D

I did notice some fat loss. Not a super amount, but some.

I was tired and run down and cranky. I wish I had eaten more, epecially carbs.

I dont know if you can escape the tired feeling completely during this rotation. The booklet states it's normal to experience some fatigue. I looked at as a good thing. We have to ask our bodies to rise to the occasion.

It was a rough 2 months but I have a feeling of accomplishment that is awsome.

One of the things that helped me get through the whole two months is to ignore the recovery week, when you only do Core Cardio and Balance every day. I think I did that workout only twice, took an extra rest day and filled the rest of the week with Cathe's workouts I had missed so much. By the beginning of the next week, I was fired up for month two.

I just checked my Elite nutrition book, and according to the formula and the stats you gave, you should eat 1,784 calories a day if you're looking to lose weight while doing Insanity. To maintain your current weight while doing Insanity, add 500 calories to that. That is, assuming my math is right. :)

Here's the formula if you're interested:

Women: 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds...134) + (4.7 x height in inches...62.5) - (4.7 x age in years...40) = 1,344 calories a day with no exercise to maintain current weight

Maintenance calories with no exercise (1,344) x Exercise Factor (1.7 = very active, if you're doing Insanity as prescribed) = Maintenance calories per day, with exercise = 2,284

For weight loss: Maintenance calories (2,284) - 500 = 1,784 calories per day

And the book recommends spacing these calories out in five meals a day.

Good luck going insane!!! :D

It is insane! Just when you think you are in great shape..Shaun knocks you down a few rungs...looking cute while doing it ;)
Hang in there...remember the name: INSANITY! It is supposed to be one tough workout.

I'm 41 and am afraid that program would give me a heart attack. I love a challenge though, but I'll stick to STS for now. :) Autumn

I did the rotation backward the first month I did alternate whit sts meso1 and then the second month I did as I suppose to, but it was tough I remember wanting to quit because I was getting drain:eek: but then I add one more week to the program to compensate with the first month.
I gain so much endurance that after that all the step workout's I was using 8 inches high, I run faster, I did the elliptical and i was on the hardest program so my HR would go up, and get some sweat:confused:
I did not loose any weight but I gain endurance and most important I did not loose any muscle that I got doing sts 31/2 month rotation.
Its a challenge yes, but you will feel so accomplish after you are done!
Good luck! and keep pushing! that's what cathletes do!;)

I, too borrowed Insanity from a friend. I did it for 3 weeks before I went to my family's for Christmas for 2 weeks, when I got back my Shock cardio dvd set was here and I started the 3 1/2 month STS with Shock cardio rotation. My plan is to do Insanity after I finish my 3 1/2 month STS/SC rotation - I was worried about losing muscle by doing all of that cardio though - glad to hear you didn't think you lost muscle by doing it.

I found that the more I did the workouts, the more I looked forward to them. You get such an endorphin high from them! And, as someone said, Shaun T is sooo lovely to look at - and when he says jump, I jump :D

But I do warm-up with Cathe before I do Insanity - because Shaun T's warm-up is ...in my opinion...NOT a warm-up. And I work out very early in the morning and my body wants a kinder, gentler start before I begin Insanity.

Let us know how it goes for you!

i cant believe someone wouldnt lose wt on this rotation. I better lose or I will be upset. that is why i decided to give it a try. I cant seem tolose this 10 lbs I gained the past two yrs

It would be really hard to lose weight with this rotation if you're not eating right (the same with any exercise plan). Even though the workouts are tough they're not very long. I only burned between 350-400 calories a workout.

If I can encourage you in any way, I would say that you don't have to do everything as they are doing on the video. I am 46 and I only have one week to go with this rotation. I had good days and not soo good days, lol. I had days where I thought, why am I pushing myself like this. It is a lot of cardio. You go almost every day, and even the recovery workouts, aren't exactly Recovery workouts! lol. Every time I got through a workout, I felt soo accomplished and proud of myself. There are those circuits, where I can keep up with what the young ones are doing on the video, and even beat them, when it comes to boxing/kb moves. I find that very encouraging, and I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I will actually miss putting this rotation to rest. I will come back to it for sure, but not as the program is written. I will probably do these cardio workouts 3x a week scattered with other cardio at some point.

The original poster may have just been having a tough day when you worked out today. I hate those days, because often times it will sour me on a workout that done on the right day, I could feel completely different about. I say give it one more try, and if you find you really dread it, then move on to something else. Again feel free to do your own thing during segments that seem to hard or not enjoyable for you. It may sound silly, but sometimes while everyone is jumping from the floor up in those crazy drills, I will just grab 3 lb. dumbbells, and do whatever I feel like doing. Sometimes it's side-kicks, front back kicks, and sometimes it's just running or sprinting while working my shoulders or biceps. I just do whatever works for me. Working out should be fun :)

Week 2

I am on week 2 of Insanity and I love them! They are without a doubt the hardest videos I have done. Well Cathe's 40/20 and CCC are right up there! I also have hip hop abs so I fell in love with Shaun T during those. He is so funny. When he lays on the floor at the end of one of them and says "this sh** is bananas y'all" it's so nice to know it's not just me.
I will be ready for my Cathe when I am done, but so far I am lovin' it:)!!
