Well my son just got his driver's licence and he is out driving, omg my heart is racing right now. Did anybody go through this with your teenager? I guess I just have to have trust in him and hope that I never have to hear from the police or hospital. Thanks for listening:).

I'm on my 2nd with the 3rd to follow shortly. It is EXTREMELY nerve wracking...I know exactly how you feel. It isn't necessarily about them, but about all the other wackos on the road. Good Luck! May the strength be with you..you're going to need it.

I haven't personally, but my neighbors' grandson got his last year, and drove grandpa's car...that is, until he ruined the transmission because of his fast starts and break-slamming stops. Now, this grandpa won't let him touch the fixed car, and his other grandpa got him an old car, that sounds like it's goin to need repairs soon, because he goes out and revs the motor every time he starts it up, then zooms off down the street!

Welcome to the wonderful (?) part of our lives known as being parents of teens with driver licenses... My 16 year old has had her license for the past 6 months, and is about to graduate to being ready to transport non-parental passengers. It's been a nerve wracking 6 months, but she's a good driver, so I cannot complain too much. I just don't let her drive the new cars - the old Jeep mysteriously gets scrapes and dings that just magically appear! LOL.

Yeah, now you'll go to bed with one ear open for the car, and one ear open for the phone. Good luck - and congratulations to him! It's exciting. I'll be praying for you!

Oh yes... you'll survive but not without a few gray hairs!! My two are 25 and 23 and while they've been driving for a while now, you never stop worrying about them. It just isn't as acute as when they first start driving. I did a lot of praying.

I hear ya! My son just turned sixteen, and he has already had two wrecks, one his fault (hit a parked car) and the other one not (someone passed him on the right on a two-lane street). I'm terrified to let him out of my sight. Fortunately, he's kind of a homebody and doesn't really go out a whole lot. The thing that scares me is that he takes after his mother. Yikes!

Yes..Yes...Yes!!!!! My daughter got her learners permit awhile ago and now I just went to her school yesterday to sign for her provisional. I am not nervous anymore when she drives. The first several times was rough for me, but she is a good driver now. She took driver's ed before she got her provisional which is required here so she knows how to parallel park, etc. She did just recently get into a fender bender, but DH was with her and the other guy did not look and backed up into them. Not her fault at all, but she probably feels bad about it. Now my son will be driving next year. I know he will want to speed so that part scares me, but he is very careful about everything else so I think he will turn out to be a good driver too.

Yeah, I went through it a couple years ago when DD stared driving. She had a wreck last summer, not her fault and no one was hurt, but the car was totalled. She handled it well though. Now just wait till he goes off to college and decides getting up for 8am classes is too hard, or gets caught underage drinking! Yeah, have been there too. I guess every age has it's worries. I wish someone would have warned me!

Barbara,

I took the approach in my mind that I expected at least one fender bender, if not two. Well, my daughter had one and she survived.

It's one of those times where faith in a higher power comes in handy.

For some reason I really was not that worried. I have 2 sons, 24 and 18. I worried more about the older one because he wasn't a very good driver. My younger one, for some reason, I did not worry at all. He is a very good driver. But I had actually been letting him drive with me in the vehicle since he was only 14. So he had lots of practice. My oldest son has had 2 accidents since he started driving, one his fault and the other not. No one hurt in either. My youngest has had no accidents, but has had tickets. He was without a drivers license for 3 months earlier this year for too many tickets in a year. If under 18 in Texas you can only have 2 tickets in a year's time. Once you get 3, they pull your license for 3 months. What a horror for me. I had to drive him to work and to school for 3 months.

Thanks everyone. I know my son does like to drive fast, errrr. He is 17 and half. I waited a while so hoping that he would mature more. Here in NJ you don't get your DL until your 17. He did have drivers ed which is a law now.

Barbara, I am right there with you. My son has his test on 12/29, just a couple of weeks. I am not nervous about his driving skills-he's a pretty careful driver. I am worried about the lack of parental control that will go with this! I will now have to just believe he is where he says he is (I wish I could afford GPS ha ha). It's scary! And he'll be a new driver in the snow! Yikes! Good luck to us both! :)

Totally nervewracking.

My son 17 can't drive because of a medical condition but my 19 year old drives home from college next week 6 hrs. YES it's nervewracking.

Congrats on the license.
