Hello, and I'm ready for a Challenge

Pollytc

Cathlete
Hello all. I've been a lurker for a few years now. I am ready to embark on a weightloss/fitness regimen after many failed attempts. I'm 5'4", and weigh 204 lbs. I'm in a very tight 16 right now, and would love to get into a comfortable size 10. I'm not as concerned about the weight as I am about feeling and looking good. So if I'm 150 lbs. and a size 10, I will be happy. I've read many stories and Donna, for one, is a major influence on sticking with a regimen. I am looking forward to seeking and getting advice from all you wonderful women.

Welcome Polly! I hope you find this forum as instructional and entertaining as I do! I check it daily! But I won't tell how many times a day... LOL

Hi Connie. And thanks for the warm welcome. I do have another question for all you novices. For starting out (its been several months since I have worked out) what type of rotation would you suggest for fat/weightloss? I am thinking either a PS rotation with cardio thrown in or else an MIS/PH rotation with cardio thrown in. Would love to hear any suggestions.

Hi Polly & WELCOME!!! I personally think that the 3 PS tapes are great starter tapes, keeping in mind to start out with light weights and progress from there. I would suggest that you do each tape once a week, say Monday, Wednesday & Friday with cardio in between. I'm not sure what you are thinking for cardio??? Do you have Cathe's cardio tapes? Do you walk? Any machines...treadmill, elliptical, bike?? Since it has been several months since you worked out, start VERY easy and build your time and intensity gradually to prevent injury. I'd suggest sticking with this for 6-8 weeks and then depending on how you feel as far as still getting results or if you are starting to get bored, you can move on to another rotation incorporating maybe MIS or PH. Just an idea. I am sure others can give you some advice also. Sooo glad to have you join us. Keep us posted!

Hi Debbie. And thank YOU for the warm welcome.

I have all of Cathe's tapes with the exception of S&H and Rhythmic Step. I never got S&H because I figured with the ones I had, they would probably suit the weight/fat loss better than S&H at this time. But maybe down the road?! :) I have several other tapes as well. From the Firm, Gilad, Kathy Smith, and several others. More than likely I will take your advice and do the PS series, with whatever cardio inbetween.

Have a wonderful day!!

Welcome from me to.You are finally ready to take the plunge .Congratulations.
I to am like connie.I will not tell you how many times I check this forum. It is only 8:50 here and this is my second time.
The rotation sounds good to me to.There is also the weight loss rotation but it requires you to work out twice a day and if you have children and a husband that could be hard.If you want it I am sure someone will help you out.I have it as well.
When you get down to the size you want, then maybe you can order S&H and Rythmic step. That can be your gift to you for having such great will power and determination.
I am going to try a new rotation to.I don't know, maybe it is already a rotation but I am going to work my lower body mon, and thurs. My chest, back...tues,&Fri.And my tri, bic, sho, wed &sat.I think my work outs won't take quite as much time if I do it this way.
Good luck and I am sure you will get right where you want to be.Keep us posted and I am sure Donna will have some great advice for you.

Hi Pollytc,

And thank you for calling me an influence. :) I agree with DebbieH, I think the PS Series would be a good place to jump back in and get started. I'm doing a PS rotation right now myself, my legs are still feeling the effects of SL&A from this morning! :)

I'll show you what I'm doing for the next few weeks, I just started it this week so it could get "tweeked" by next week, but here's what I've mapped out for myself.

m: step cardio (30min) + PS-BBA
t: PS-SL&A
w: hi/lo cardio (45min) + PS-CST
t: kickboxing (60min)
f: Imax
s: Body Pump
s: pilates (25min)

I'll rotate around the cardio each week, but I'm thinking of putting the shorter cardios before the weights so I can really concentrate on lifting heavy. I'm mentally "freaking out" behind this rotation because I only have 4 days of cardio and I'm so programed into the more cardio = more fat burned concept, so I'm not sure if I can stick to this. But I'm going to give it a try.

Glad you came out of "lurking" and joined us here. Let us know what you decide to do, I'm sure you can get rotation ideas for whatever workouts you decide on.

Do you have some experience with weight lifting? What exercises had you done in the past that you liked and feel you could stick to? What sort of equipment do you have now? How much time do you have to exercise? These are questions that would be good guidelines for us to suggest a plan of attack for you.

What sort of food plan do you have? Are you going to follow Weight Watchers or somthing like that? Do you keep a food journal? If you don't, that would be a good place to start, so you can really see what needs to be changed.

Personally, I would not jump into the PS tapes right away since I get a sense that you are at a beginner level as an exerciser. You may want to go to the library and get some videos by Denise Austin or someone else who can work you gradually into weights. Keep the the PS tapes on the shelf and don't use them right away. I see you have some Gilad, Kathy Smiths' and Firms. Use whichever of those are more geared to the beginner. You are NOT ready for the more advanced Cathe tapes yet.

You need to work into an exercise program gradually, and not set yourself up for failure because you tried to take on too much. Try walking for 20 minutes a day, three days a week, and weight training two days per week, doing 6-10 exercises at first.

You can work your way into cardio 4-5 days per week and 45 minutes per session, and more weights, but you need to start SLOW! Baby steps will still get you to your goal. We're not in a hurry here.

Here's your challenge - walk before you run, literally. You CAN do it, so.................Just Do It! :)

Hi, just thought I'd complete the triumvirate to welcome you in.
(That's DebH, HB, and moi.) ha-ha. :D
I'm going to add another idea: Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout--using only 1 or 2 lb. weights--before you start laughing; Try It!!
No matter what you choose, just move it ..you'll feel good.
Listen to your body..Murph

Hi there and welcome to the best forum online:) I have been here only a short while but am already addicted! I also can not tell you how many times a day I check it:)

These pros are awesome and sooooo nice!!!! I think it is great you are getting started and sound committed. Sounds like you have some great Cathe videos to get you started.

You should check out some of the rotations listed on this board. There is also a site one of the Cathe Forum gals made that I don't have here at home. It is on my work computer. Hopefully Francine or one of the other gals will see this post and give it us again. It has tons of ideas for rotations, calendars etc.

Anyway, welcome! Look forward to chattin' with ya' :-jumpy

Hi Polly,
Welcome and congratulations for making a decision to get healthy!I might suggset that you give weight watchers a try in addtion to yur new workout rotations. WW works wonders. (Oh, that was corny!) Any way, it is a plan for life NOT a diet; that is why after 4 years of maintenance, I still follow the WW program. Best of luck to you.

Hi everybody, and thanks for all the wonderful advice and warm welcomes. I truly appreciate it. I've decided for the first few weeks I am going to get myself back into the groove by just doing different cardios and other strength tapes that I have (I have enough to sink a ship). Maybe after a few weeks I"m going to start up the PS series with MIS once a week. These two series are good enough for me,and I will just use the weights that my body is allowing me to use at the time, and go from there.

As far as my diet goes, I've tried everything under the sun, and the bottom line is sticking to something. lol. I've been on WW and you name it. For right now I'm going to track my intakes on fitday, and not beat myself up too badly til I get into the swing of things. I'm afraid if I go into it all full force, I will overwelm myself and not follow through yet again. I figure if I start my exercise program and cut down here and there and track what I'm really eating, then I can come up with a more diligent way of eating a few weeks down the line.

Thanks again for all the wonderful support. I am excited to share with everybody, and get wonderful advice along the way!!
