I subbed for 5 years covering K-8th. I wouldn't dream of covering high school.
Our district has 3 elementary and 1 middle school. It was a lot of fun, I was doing it as a second job working 3rd shift as my career job. Some mornings were tough, thank God for caffiene.
When I was known to the teachers and they left me work to teach instead of showing movies it was a lot of fun. I got to know them quite well and would leave them notes and tell them how great their class was.
I had to step down because I couldn't separate myself parent vs teacher. I wound up having a major blowout with a principal over some harassment one of my kids was receiving that he felt was minor teasing and wanted to sweep it under the rug.
After I retire from job#1, I may consider teaching vocational education.
It is a great job. I still get kids sayin "Hi Mr LaVie" then I have to figure out, who they are and where I met them from. The trouble is, you never remember the well behaved kids, the ones who deserve to be remembered.
