Go You Chicken Fat Go

I always find myself singing this little diddy - funny how certain things from childhood just stay with ya. Does anyone else remember doing the exercise(record) as a kid? I think it was used in the late 60's early 70's.

Touch down, every morning, 10 times, not just now and then. Give that chicken fat back to the chicken and don't be chicken again...........

Hah! Yep, I do indeed remember exercising to this in the gym/cafeteria of my elementary school - and this would have been in the 80's ... I wonder if little kids are doing this somewhere still ... I can only remember as much as you've posted, but it still pops into my head now and then.

Thanks for the laugh!

This song brings back bad memories for me. My gym teacher in elementary school used to make all of the kids do this as a "punishment" if your skills were lousy. I was really uncoordinated and not athletic at all as a kid and always had to do the Chicken Fat song while everyone else had free time.:( It was so humiliating.

For those who have good memories of this song, there is a site where you can listen to it (the original!). Last year, I sent the link to colleagues in my department who were on a team with me doing a health challenge (we won in the areas of fruit/veggie consumption and water consumption, but some maniacal walkers won in the 'exercise' category, which was based solely on time spent working out.)

>Would you happen to have the site?
If I knew it off-hand, I would have posted a link. It was over a year ago (though there was a thread about it here at that time, so if you do a deep search here, you could maybe find it, or just search for "chicken fat song" on the internet).

Thanks Carrie, that's sweet. :)

Unfortunately, the elementary school gym teacher that my kids had is just as bad. She humiliates any children who are heavier or out of shape and singles them out in class as an example of how no one wants to be. This woman should NOT be around children - I can't believe she still has a job after the stories that I've heard from my own kids and other parents.

I know that she's been reported to the principal many times, but I don't know if anyone has complained about her to anyone higher up. The principal is very diplomatic and doesn't do much except say that she'll talk to the offending teacher if there's a problem.

One mom told me that the gym teacher singled out her overweight daughter and told the other kids that they should be fit so that they don't look like that particular child. The mother went to the principal, but I told her that she should have bypassed the principal at that point and gone to the superintendent instead. The gym teacher also measures height and BF% every year and announces the measurements out loud - no privacy at all for the kids. We've heard a million stories like these. By the way, the gym teacher isn't perfect either. My kids laugh at her push-up attempts and she's pretty stocky.

We only had one problem with her. One of my boys has fine motor delays and was wearing velcro shoes to gym class because he couldn't manipulate shoelaces yet. This was when he was in the first grade. She told him that he didn't belong in the first grade if he couldn't tie his shoes. I was furious.x(
