Foods that cause wt gain

Is it really possible to have certain foods cause you to gain wt fast? It seems that everytime I eat several dairy products , say for instance, I ate cheese balls, cheesy dips for xmas, and I've gained over three pds according to the scale and my pants. I am lactose intolerant and it seems this is the case for me or am I imaging this?

I don't want to sound gross by saying this but cheese has a tendency to block people up. If you haven't had a decent bowel movement since eating the cheese, that may be the cause of the weight gain. Unfortunately in our world today, unless you buy organic food there are things in processed food that will make us eat more and gain weight. I'm reading a book that really talks about this and it's a huge eye opener.

I would eat something that you know gets your system moving and see if that makes a difference.

Good Luck!

Only if those foods have high calories and you eat enough of it. Otherwise, I think Brenda is right. Could be water weight too.

Ive been able to go to the bathroom, but have been bloated and gasey, sorry, TMI. Anyway, my hands also feel swelled. I just hate feeling this way! Like a big puffy marshmallow. Anything for bloating that actually works?

For belly bloating, if I'm desperate, I'll use some GasX.

For general water-retention bloating, I just drink a lot of water, and avoid caffeine and salt, and try to let that system normalize itself.

Just sounds to me like a little case of holiday over-indulgence...been there! :D

Hi, sorry you are having issues!:( Not all dairy is created equal....darn.
Better dairy selections are low-fat string cheese, cottage cheese, skim milk, low fat mozzarella cheese..get the picture?

The sodium is unreal in alot of foods, cheese is one of them (along with cholesterol). I second the advice to drink water (dilute the problem) and to really, really watch the cheese/crackers and everything else New Years eve!
Start reading the labels and get anything you can low-sodium.

Hope this helps, if not, see a doc!

Yes, there are certain foods that make some people put on weight, it seems to vary from person to person. About three years ago I started to correlate what I was eating with my weight and I developed what I now call the "Do Not Eat" list. The worst culprit on my list (which I will never eat again, so help me I would rather starve) was anything with dough conditioners especially donuts. I started as a juror on a 3 week wrongful death suit at 228 pounds. Within three weeks I was 268. They served us donuts and bagels every day in the jury deliberation room. I was not in the habit of eating donuts but there was no restaurants within a reasonable distance of the courthouse. I was exercising the whole time. The second thing on my list is KFC. I know that a lot of that was sodium but dang it if I didn't take 4 weeks to lose the 4 pounds I put on overnight. The only way I know how to actually make progress with weight loss is to weigh in at least every other day and track which foods preceded a weight gain. Then, test it. If at another time does the same food cause a problem? Sometimes its not the food, sometimes its activity level or stress level.

I hope that helps. Btw, I also avoid hot chocolate, I always put on fat when I have that.
