First Yoga class

Hi Everyone,
I am heading out now for my first yoga class.I have to admit for some reason I feel a little nervous.I have never been to ANY class before.I have always done my work outs at home.I don't know why I am nervous b/c it is a beginners class and everyone else there will be new to it.I have already went to the bathroom twice since I have been up.
I know I am acting weird.I don't do many things by myself. If one of my friends were going with me, I would already be out the door.I feel as if I am going to a job interview.Funny thing, I have been to more job interviews then I have instructed classes.I am sure everything will be fine.
I will let you know what it was like when I get home.If only I could get rid of these butterflies...

Hi Lori,

You will really enjoy it - I have friends who regularly attend Yoga classes, and they love it. I think it is quite normal to be nervous, but once you go and keep going back, you will meet some great friends, so don't worry. Just ENJOY !

Everything went well. The class was a hour and a half.I thought it was only 1 hour. There are only 7 people in the class.I did Rythmic Step before I went and I found my quads were getting tired while I was in some of the poses and my kness were alittle shaky.Next week I may have to try a different work out before I go.I don't want to give up my cardio on my yoga days.
Anyway,Thanks for the encouragement....

Hi Lori! I am glad you had a good first class. :) So you don't feel silly--I have been doing gym (and home) workouts since I was 9 years old (I am now 34) and every time I go into a new class, I too am nervous STILL!!! I think it's just this whole thing of the class knowing the "routine" and being the new kid, not knowing where the equipment is, how the class sets up, if you are in "someone's spot," and being generally 'out of step.' I suggest you try to make small talk with a new person every week, it works wonders. When a new person makes small talk with me, I go out of my way to remember his/her name and always say hi after that. It's kinda "gym protocol." :) YOu could also hang after class for a second to thank the instructor as an opportunity to let him/her know this is your first group exercise class, maybe that you're a little nervous. It's hard when you aren't used to doing things by yourself, but before you know it, you'll be the "regular" befriending the "new kid." :-jumpy
