Hello everyone..

Well, as many of you might remember, I had an underwater body fat test scheduled today. UGGGHHHH! Well, it was not as good as I wanted it to be but not as bad as it could have been. 25%. Very depressing for me considering my activity level and intensity. BUT....I have a whopping 106 pounds of lean body mass, which is very good for a person of my height of 5'1. I think it works out that I AM displacing fat with muscle and that I experienced an overall gain of 3 lbs. in muscle since beginning strength training approximatly a year ago.(Not very encouraging). Even though my fat level is not as low as I would like it to be, I am happy with the lean mass level. I think losing about 5 pounds of fat if possible will do alot for me in terms of improved athletic performance. I really think at this point also that Depo Provera is hindering my weight loss efforts also. Hard to beleive that 8 years ago I tested in the exact same tank at 12% body fat at 98 pounds. Don't want to be there again (2 packs a day smoker) and don't think I could be even if I wanted to. But LOOK....I have more lean mass than I weighed TOTAL back then. That is good I think....

Now, I will just continue to monitor via my body fat scale and calipers, as I did this to see what the difference was between the three. Seems that caliper testing will be the next most accurate for me..usually I get about 23% with them and my EVIL scale measures me at 30%!!!

So for now, I will keep doing the same thing I am doing but I will add a few less intense cardios to my routine. My body doesn't seem to want to take any more intense ones. And, of course, try to eat less peanut butter and ice cream!!!:):)

Take care,

Janice

Hi Janice!

Well, that's not too bad. :) I had my bodyfat hydrostatically done several years ago. I came in at just under 20% @ 134lbs. Talk about lean body mass! Don't know what it is now (too much), but I have one of those EVIL Tanita scales too. x( *sigh* I know all too well about the ice cream and PB!!

Hey, Janice,
congratulations! 25% is fine. It's a helluva lot healthier than 12%! Stand tall and be proud! Not to mention the BRAVERY involved in getting your bf measured...You rock!

Ditto what Kathy said.

You're completely sensible about where you are now and your goals...and how to get there.

Thanks for all the encouragement you guys....Hard to beleive I was so low back then, but I guess when I really look at it, I had a part time job (an active one) was a smoker and was not on birth control and did not lift weights at that time. Now, my exercise routine is more balanced, I quit smoking, am on birth control and have a full time, fully sedentary job..but, I do make it as active as I can!!

I think I am going to run somemore and hope my body does not complain. I NEED to lose some boobs. I hate them!!! Plus, my husband is going into the police academy on Dec. 1 and I don't want him to be able to run circles around me, you know!!

Janet, thanks so much for sharing all that with us, I was looking forward to your post and almost missed it!!! I think you're doing great and all the right things!!!! That's a wonderful lean body mass!!!! I mentioned in a note to you under "what to do after S&H" that I checked on the underwater weighting and hubby and I want to do this as soon as we can. DH is finally getting interested in getting back in shape, he consented to do S&H bis and tris with me, but he just can't handle working out with women. I'm just trying to encourage him to do anything that he will stick with!!

I think it's so helpful to know what point you are currently at so you can gauge how you are doing say 6 months from now!! Keep us posted, your doing fantastic and encouraging us as well!!
