Phyllis ~ Our Xmas luncheon is tomorrow :9 I'll need a tough January rotation myself. Hopefully my mad dashes to and from my new parking spot count as extra cardio:+ :+ :+

Jane ~ Continued prayers for you and your family.

Have a good day ladies...Happy Humpday!

Good morning Phyllis and Tammy and all that follow...

I went to the hospital after work yesterday and daddy was talking better than he was the night before but it is still going to be a long road back. The neurologist saw him yesterday and she told him that very thing but she felt that while he would never be 100% again, he could come close. My stepmom and I drilled and drilled him yesterday on remembering names. He could remember a lot of them but as we continued to work with him, he was getting them on the first try. He couldn't think of my husband's name at first and I had to tell him but after a while I asked him again and he got the first syllable right but missed the name and after a few more tried, he got it.

He is most distressed about reading. Daddy is a very well educated man and very well read. He can't read. He explained to me as best he could that he could read the words one by one but, as I finally understood what he meant, he can't retain the memory of each word to the end of a sentence or paragraph to grasp the meaning of what he is reading. Very distressing for him. But it will come back, he is very determined. They are still setting up his rehab. I believe he will have outpatient speech therapy five days a week, that was the plan as of yesterday and they'll get final word today what his program will be.

As far as preventing more strokes, we are between a rock and a hard place. Daddy was pulled off his anticoagulation in October when he had a major intestinal bleed. He has vascular malformations in his small and large intestine and is in very real danger of another life-threatening bleed if they put him back on anticoagulation. He was on Coumadin (has been for 20 years), Plavix and aspirin. He is in chronic atrial fibrillation and has stents in his heart so without blood thinners, a stroke was almost inevitable. Unfortunately, we have found out there is no "happy medium" with anticoagulation. The best option is to put him on something that can be easily and rapidly reversed in the event of a bleed. His gastroenterologist is going to talk with his neurologist today. Right now they are thinking aspirin.

He is going to get to go home today I believe. That was the plan as of yesterday.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate all of you so much!

Good morning,

Thank you Jane for taking the time to check in with an update. You and your family are always in my prayers.
Perhaps your father would enjoy the audio books for awhile until he can read again. It may help take his mind off of things...Just a thought that I am sure you have already handled.

Today was SS but I don't have it. I guess I will have to SUB again!}(
I did Amy Slo Mo total body premix 2 ( 65 minutes). I love these workouts!

Phyllis: have fun at the lunch! :9

Tammy: More snow today??

Jane: I can most certainly appreciate how disconcerting it must be for your Dad to not be able to enjoy reading. Maybe at some point a book on tape (or mp3) will be helpful. Please know I will keep your Dad in my prayers

Hi Conni! We posted a the same time!

I probably won't squeeze a w/o in today. I have to stop and see mom and then get the Xmas shopping done in the evening. We'll be heading out later in hopes of avoiding the bulk of the mob scene.

I'm going to start thinking of ways I can rearrange my schedule so I can get my w/o. It may just be that I will have to get up at 4:30 am to squeeze one in and still get to work early. This will mean getting myself to bed fairly early....drat! I'm also interested in any ideas of how one can prepare fairly tasty lunches on the weekends to carry one through the week. Whatever it is will need to freeze well. Any thougths?

Morning Folks.

Jane: Your father is my prayers. (((hugs)))

I have an all upper body attack planned for today. I'll be doing various exercises from the X work outs until my upper body is nice and toasty!}(

DS went to the doctor yesterday with a bad cough, fever, etc. He has pneumonia. We caught it early though so it didn't get serious yet. He's on antibiotics and should be good to go real soon. My poor kid is obviously going to get sick every year around Christmas...how stinky is that!?! x(

TTYL!

Jane, I can understand how distressing it must be for your dad. It sounds like he will have a positive recovery. I hope the docs can figure out the best anticoagulatn therapy for him. Meanwhile, how are YOU doing?

Conni, I need to get slo mo out again. :)

Beavs, I get up at 4:30 everyday to wo. So, I'm living prof that it can be done. I'm in bed by 9:30 ish. Um, I'm no help when it comes to lunches. I but the Birdseye or Green Giant vegetables( or whatever brand of frozen veggies for steaming I can find) and use that for my lunch. I add some fruit, water, almonds or yogurt. sometimes, I just grab a can of soup. I don't have much of a repetoire (sp?) of foods.

Workout is done...Cathe almost made me cry :( For some reason, B&G PM#3 just about killed me today, I was so glad when the screenshot came up that said "get ready to stretch"...LOL! Needless to say after that all I managed on the treadmill was just a quick 2 mile walk. They are doing construction on our floor at work and I had a headache all day...half the office went home sick. I may need to look into alternate office space until this construction is done.

Wendy ~ Nice mish-mosh! Is Joey feeling better?

Phyllis ~ Santa is bringing me Slo-Mo...can't wait to try it out.

Patti ~ I bring a HUGE salad to work everyday...lettuce, seedless cuke, chick peas, hb egg, some cheese, etc, etc. I wash everything over the weekend and then each morning just assemble the salad with what I've got in the fridge ready.

Conni ~ A sub today? ;)

Jane ~ Thanks for the update. Give your Dad a great big (((HUG))) from me, and a (((HUG))) for you too!

I'm going to lay down for a bit....I think it will be an early night for me!

Thank you all for your support. I just love you guys! Daddy got to come home today. I talked to him this afternoon and he and my stepmom were getting ready to go to WalMart and buy daddy a new watch. Bless his heart, the watch he has now has slashes for the numbers and he can't tell time with it, he needs one with numbers. That put a lump in throat, I tell you....

It will get better. He has his first appointment with speech therapy tomorrow morning and he is ready and raring to go.

Thanks again for all your prayers, they really work!
