Cathlete
Guten morgen, cheetahs! :D

Shelly :: I had just a bit of remaining DOMS in the tuchus yesterday morning, but it didn’t last too long, and I’m feeling fresh again. I did use the foam roller quite a bit this week! :D Loved this line of yours from yesterday: “We still can pat ourselves on the back for getting out there and doing what 99% of the population wouldn't dream of doing.” Sounds like something Sheehan would say, and I agree completely!!

Marcia :: hope you had fun golfing yesterday…do you get along well with MIL?…I have modified that rotation a bit more to suit my needs and plan to start on Monday the 23rd…is that cool?

Jess :: congrats on the 10 inches lost ~ sweet!!! You must be all muscle now, girl! :) I noticed you said your weight fluctuated during the program, which was interesting to read as that happened to me, too. Guess that's normal. I plan to do another round with Wendy in January.

Jackie :: Great job with the 8.4 miles!!! I had to chuckle at the story of the dogs b/c of your way w/ words, but getting chased is scary!! Which reminds me -- I think it’s time to invest in a new pepper spray canister…Fortunately, I mostly now encounter squirrels, road kill (ick), and the occasional deer. :) Now if you want to hear about some interesting wildlife, ask Carole! *lol*…Thank you for asking ~ I am on the 2nd consecutive month of the higher dosage, which does intensify the side effects some, but it is much easier to handle on my current schedule.

Wendy :: that's GREAT that you & your friend have committed to a half. Are you doing the one in AC? I concur with the others here ~ with a run/walk plan, the fall seems absolutely doable.

Robin :: yes, all of us are runners here. Some are true cheetahs and then there are those of us who are cheetahs in our own minds. :p :D The clean eating check-in is called Clean and Tidy or something along those lines. Good job with LIC.

Carole :: I know it's disappointing when you don't beat or match your previous time, but to me, that sounds like a *very* respectable pace for a KILLER course!! Great job! Congrats to your sis & friend for placing in their age divisions. BOO on DH missing the pics! :( Hope those Ultras made up for it. :)

Sunny :: Fingers crossed that the antibiotics work for you…Accutane was for me, too, a last resort…Yogabutt sounds like a class I’d enjoy (minus the yapping)…Sounds a lot like Squeeze! :D

Today’s workout will be a run. Enjoy your Sunday, ladies!
Cathy :D

Good morning ladies,

cathy- the class definitely reminded me of squeeze except she didn't keep saying "squeeze", lol.

today's workout is chest, back and shoulder's workout with dh and then i am thinking of adding an icycle...we'll see:+

do any of you do gels on your long runs? if so, what kind do you recommend? thanks!

i will check back in with you all later:)

Hey Sunny! *lol* about the "Squeeze" comments...so true...enjoy today's workout...I'm not really doing true long runs anymore, but even when I did, I did not use the gels. I didn't like the taste, but I hear they have gotten better. I think Carole and Shelly know a lot about those. I'm sure they can make a recommendation.

I did a 40-minute run this morning...slow as ever but still out of my target HR zone. (I was going to set that HR stuff aside for now, but with the new 305, I can't help but pay attention.) Now I'm off to do a good stretch and then some Sunday sales. The back-to-school supply sales are starting to kick in, and I can never resist those!

Will be back to see what everyone's up to a little bit later.

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...I will say that when I run slower than a previous time, it is always a bit disappointing but I get over it fast...:)...and what Shelly said really made me feel good. Definitely BOO on the pics! Sounds like a good run...enjoy the sales.

Sunny...Gels are good on long runs. Finding on you like is another thing. There are so many to choose from, I prefer Accelerade gel as it does have some protein in it. If you have a Sporting goods store close, the best thing is to try some out as they usually sell singles. I have a tough time with gels as some are so damn sweet I about gag. I do like the chewy things you can use like Sharkies. They are not as sweet. Enjoy your workout with DH...

I am not too sore today. So off to workout on my EXT and maybe a fun KPC/L&G premix!

Have a great day..:)

Holy Moly Ladies! I just checked out y'day's thread...boy do I have a lot of catching up to do!LOL Well, no time like the present, right? ;)

Cathy: So you used to bowl? What was your average at it's highest? I bowled for over 10 years and could never get out of the mid 120 range. I finally had enough and gave it up. You know, my biggest problem wasn't even my low average. It was my inability to be consistent. I couldn't count on bowling around my average MOST of the time and it ticked me off to no end. Hey, maybe for a goof we can go bowling while I am down there for the RT! We will have a good deal of time to hang out while the "official" RT'ers are doing their thing. :7

Carole: Good job on your race. Sounds like you played it smart. Sorry about the fight with DH and no pics. :-( So have you made up yet? ;) }(

Laura: I am thinking of hiring a personal trainer. They just told us at my gym the employees can hire a trainer for CHEEEEAAAAPPPPPP so I may give it a shot. I have always wanted to try it plus I think it would do me good considering I want to BE one! I am afraid the training will be cheesey compared to what they normally do cause the price is INCREDIBLY cheap but I won't know until I try. I believe a trainer can do a lot for a person! I say go for it!:)

Sunny: A yogabutt class? LOL So you and your friend are going to do a half as well? How cool. I have to assume that you are not wimping out like me and are going to train to RUN the entire thing, right? :7

Laurie: How was the festival? Did you have fun?

Jaz: Your story sounds similar to a lot of us. Alot of Cathe fans started with the Firm. I certainly did. :)

Jess: Great results with the X! I knew you'd do well! So are there before and after pics? :D

Jackie: How scarey about the dogs. What do you do in a situation like that to avoid them really coming after you??

Shelly: LOL, yeah I know I know...I think I just said last week that I didn't have the motivation to do a half, didn't I?!:p I think it has a lot to do with the walk/run idea. Running the whole thing still scares me...maybe next time.

Wow, that was fast. I guess it wasn't too much to catch up with after all!:)

So a while ago I printed out one of Hal Higdon's training schedules for a half but it's for running it all. Does anyone know if or where I can find a training schedule for the run/walk approach? I really have no clue how to go about it. One thing I am worried about is that I don't want to lose my ability to run steady while training for this. HELP!

hello again,

well dh didn't wake up in enough time for us to workout and make it to church so i worked out without him. i did iscuplt 17, loved it!

carole- good idea, i am going to try some single ones to see which i like or can at least tolerate:D

cathy- i have checked amazon.com and pretty sure i will order the garmin 205. glad you enjoyed your run.

wendy- actually my approach will be a run (mostly) and walk. not sure that i can run for 13 plus miles as the 10k was a bit of a struggle for me. granted i was sick but still....

Good morning everyone!

Wendy - Great job on the 5 miler! I knew you would do good! Does sound like you had an adventure just getting to the race. At least, you got your warm up in. I think you should be able to do a half by the fall if you start training now especially if you're walking some. I'm using a 10 week training schedule that I will start about August picking up the mileage. About the dogs - I start praying really hard that they stop and go back home after I yell at them. I'm more afraid of seeing them travel in packs. Haven't encountered that yet.

Robin - Sorry about the knee keeping you from running but I'm sure you get a good workout in with power walking. Cute dog story! LOL!!

Carole - Great job with your race! Congratulations!! Glad you had fun. Sorry you and DH had a fight and you didn't get any pictures. I'll have to try that trick with the dogs. Agree with Shelly that there are a lot of fast over 50 women out there.

Cathy - I wasn't laughing too much when the dogs started running toward me yesterday. My second thought was I won't run this way again. At least I could be seen by others if I had been attacked. Had my pepper spray aimed and ready to pull the trigger. Glad you're handling the meds well. Good run. The Garmin is why I try to find different routes to have something new to look at.

Sunny - I use shot bloks - raspberry flavor sometimes on my long runs. Yesterday, I wanted to try the sport bean but my hands were so sweaty I couldn't get the bag open. I just said forget it. I usually open the bag before I leave home.

Rest day for me. DBF and I went to see Transformers last night. It was a cute movie. Enjoyed it.

Gotta get ready for church. Enjoy your Sunday!

Jackie

Good morning Cheetahs! Hope you all are having a restful pleasant weekend so far!

I just had some thoughts about our "performances" when we race. When I was running my marathon last Jan. it was at about mile 22 or so when I was hurting so bad and having those evil defeating thoughts like "why am I doing this?" when a spectator in the crowd yelled out "I wouldn't even think about doing what your doing!"
It was just the right thing to say and I felt like going over and hugging her! Working in the field that I do (critical care) I all too often see the results of people who choose bad lifestyle habits.
We are truly an exceptional group of ladies just for getting out there and doing it.... no matter what the end results or time or ranking, or whatever.

Keep it up!
Enough of my babbling.... I'll be back for personals

ShellyC

Hello again! I'm feeling pretty well rested and ready to take on the world this morning..... watch out world!;-) :p I'll be giving the BBCs a go around this week. Today will be Chest and Abs and later a good hour session on the EXT, or maybe I'll do an iClimb.
anyway...

Carole- If I made you feel better.... well, that made my week for me!!! I guess it's the nurse in me. I get such a boost from feeling I've made a difference and helped someone, even if it's in a very small way. But I think most people are like that too :7
Especially here on these boards. This is a good day for you to be doing a fun workout... KPC/LG is a great choice.

Wendy- I was going to suggest the Jeff Galloway web site but I scrolled down and saw that Carole had already. Anyway, for your HM
just relax and tell yourself you will walk when you need to and you'll have a wonderful first HM. I personally feel that you'll surprise yourself and end up running it more than you expect! There are many people who walk all or most of it so you are not going to stick out!

Cathy- Great job on your run today! Exercising using your HR as a guide can be frustrating. Personally I feel that if your perceived level of exertion is good then just go with it.... IMHO.

SunnyD- My jaw dropped over your description of the instructor of your yogabutt class!!! What a lack of courtesy and professionalism!
Personally, I would have walked out. Anyway, I read about those yoga/pilates moves with the squishy ball in a fitness mag recently and I thought they looked pretty effective. What's your take on it? I have the Squeeze workout and I really feel the effects of it when I do it. Re: the gel issue... I'm with Carole in that they are too sweet for me. On long runs when you're combining them with a sports drink it's like molasses sitting in your gut and it makes me pretty queezy. But we are all different so I suggest buying a single packet in a flavor you like and trying it. There are plenty of runners who swear by them. My favorite ( like Jackie's) are the Cliff shotbloks.... not as sweet and easier for the old gut to handle.

Jackie- Hope you are having a very well deserved rest day!! Fantastic job on your 8.5 miles yesterday!!! For your 5k next week.... to quote Tony from p90x.... just do your best and forget the rest!

DH is up and wants to head out for shopping. We'll be hitting the flea market first, he loves those!

Later y'all

ShellyC

Good Morning you lovely Cheetah Ladies!!

Jimmy and I did a 3 mile run yesterday followed by P90X Chest and Back - I enjoyed that one! No, I'm not starting another rotation, but I had fun with it yesterday. And I also did B&G stability ball abs - I had not done that one before. I thought I did and found it medicore - holy cow! That's a great workout! So, now it will be a favorite again.

Today is B&G Leg Blast premix (my legs are trembling at that thought!) followed by some cycling with Coach Troy - something light to spin out the legs.

We had guests over yesterday (by sister's brother-in-law and his wife). We had a blast. They brought their 18 month old little girl, Lily and their pug Stella. We went to the Poodle Parade at Santana Row and left the dogs in "doggie day care" while we walked around. Then enjoy a glass of wine at Left Bank. Came home, went swimming then had dinner. Just a fun day.

Quick check in as usual, but I was so happy to have run yesterday I wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone!!!

Miss you beautiful babes!

Hello again~
Just want to see what you all are up to before I head outside with some required reading. I start tutoring on Tuesday and need to get prepped.

Carole :: glad you’re not too sore from yesterday…enjoy the EXT and KPC/L&G if you get to it. I do believe you have me hooked on those now!! :) Glad, too, that you & DH made up.

Wendy :: hmm, my bowling average was maybe in the 140s?? I truly don’t remember…I was more or less just there for the social atmosphere. Sure, we can bowl when you come down for the RT…whatever you want to do is cool w/ me. :)

Sunny :: that’s great about the Garmin! When are you ordering?

Jackie :: Oh, I know it’s not funny being chased! I wasn't trying to make light of it - but I did chuckle at the way you told the story. I guess 'cause I've been there! You know, you can laugh about these things later, but while it’s happening, it’s pretty damn terrifying. I think my closest call was the Doberman who tried to swallow my hand. *lol* I like dogs, but I have to say, I am really a bit leery of them after having some close encounters!…I usually run out-and-back and don't change up my route that often, but once in a while, it is nice for a change of scenery...Enjoy your rest day. I saw Evening yesterday. Has received lousy reviews, but I enjoyed it. Bit of a tearjerker.

Shelly :: I know that you & others here go by RPE, and I have kept that in mind…it’s part of the reason why I’d decided to just get out there and run and enjoy it and listen to my body—which is what I did before the existence of all this gadgetry! I think I’ll stick to that and disable the max HR alarm. For all I know, the number could be off. Let’s face it, it’s not like I’m training for the Olympics and need that kind of data crunching. :) So, I’ll keep with the ol’ K.I.S.S. principle. :D Enjoy the flea market & your w/outs later!

ETA: Christine :: great to see ya ~ we miss you, too!

TTYL~
Cathy :D

Hello Cheetahs! I'm finally checking back in! I just can't keep up lately! I did a 16.5 mile early bike w/ my buddy this morning, gorgeous morning! I woke up w/ a bit of a sniffle/ scratchy throat and think I have a touch of Greg's cold but I'll survive! ;-) It won't keep me down! }(

And, I ended up starting my Slow & Heavy rotation y'day. I couldn't resist Cathe! I did Bi's & Tri's and am feeling some DOMS so I worked 'em good!

Wendy ~ Great job on the race!! Sounds like a bit of an ordeal but glad you did it & found your car again! :p We had a similar thing happen at a race last year, we had to park over a mile away to start with, then we had to go back for something we forgot, and had to jog back to the start as we were almost late! Then we jogged back to the car afterwards so we got in at least 4 more miles that day!

I will be posting my pics, but for some reason our computer is acting up. We can NOT get the dumb camera card to upload pics!! I'm super frustrated, but will post when we figure it out!

I took the fit test again y'day & here are my results:

Before:
1. 1/4 pull up: (couldn't hardly lift myself at all!)
2. 10" vertical leap
3. 38 pushups (manlies or on toes)
4. 8" reach past toes
5. 4 minute wall squat
6. 12 reps @ 20 lbs
7. 50 in & outs

After:
1. 4 wide pullups, 2 close pullups, 5 chinups!!!!! (My goal was to do just ONE so I WAY bypassed that goal!)
2. 13" (thanks to Plyo!)
3. 50 pushups (on toes) and could probably do another set!!!
4. 10" reach past toes (thanks to Yoga!)
5. SEVEN minute wall squat!!! I was going for 5 minutes and then just kept going!
6. 20 reps @ 20 lbs
7. 80 in & outs

WOOHOO, look at that progress!! I can't wait to see what round 2 brings!!

Have a great night, we're back to church in a few!
