Bulgur

Who incorporates this into their diet? I have a recipe I want to try for stuffed peppers that has bulgur and it looks so yummy. What do you all think of it? What does it taste like? Thanks!!

Debbie

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.

I like bulgur. I use it half and half with steel cut oats for breakfast, actually. Every once in a while I'll use it for dinner, but I just think it tastes better as a breakfast cereal. Soo.... you want to know what it tastes like? Think breakfast! It has more flavor than rice or millet, maybe more "earthy", I guess. I expect your recipe would be very good. Give it a shot!

I like it lots! It's easy to prepare. I've always thought it had a little bit of a nutty taste to it. I usually eat it cold, like in a salad (tabbouleh). It soaks up dressing nicely.

Well, before fake meat crumbles were so easy to come by, DH used to put it in his chili. We had a party once and served it, and people thought we'd made a meat batch for them. I'm not sure how much you need to put in, but I wouldn't think it would be much; it expands quite a bit.

I've used it to make tabouli salad. It's good. Doesn't really taste like much of anything, really, by itself.

I love Bulgur and generally use it as a breakfast (made like Oatmeal. I guess the flavour is a bit nutty. I also like it in tabbouleh.

I would love to try other recipes using Bulgur - Can you post the recipe?

Deb, I love bulgur. I usually prepare it as a side dish, like rice. Saute it with a little onion in some butter or olive oil. Add water or broth and cover. Simmer till all the liquid is adsorbed.

Bulgur is cracked wheat, and I like to limit my wheat consumption (I think it's in too many things, and it's easy to eat too much of, and possibly develop sensitivities to).

I prefer using quinoa for some of the same things bulgur is used for. It has a similar texture, and a much better nutritional profile (and no gluten).
