Just so you are aware, your BMR is the amount of calories you need just to lay in bed all day and do nothing, no cleaning, no work, no working out. So that's probably accurate as far as the calories you need just to be able to function (i.e. blink your eyes, digestion, make new cells, grow hair, etc.) But because you don't lay in bed all day, you need more than that. Normally the formula (known as the Harris Benedict Formula)to get your AMR (Active Metabolic Rate) is to take your BMR and multiply as shown below:

To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:
1. If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
2. If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
3. If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
4. If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
5. If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9
An easier way I do it for wieght loss for my clients is like this: On a scale of 1-4, rate how active you are, 1 being sedentary, 2 being like a desk job with 3 days a week of exercise, 3 being like a manual labor job with extra exercise, and 4 being like a professional athlete. Then whichever number you pick, add it to the 1. ........so for intance if you rate your level at a 3, you would multiply your BMR by 1.3 and that would give you how many calories you need in order to lose weight. That way you under your actual needs based on the Harris Benedict formula. Because if you take in the exact calories you need for your AMR, you will maintain where you are. If you go under, and create that deficit, that's where you'll see those inches start to fall off! On the contrary, if you eat only at your BMR, you are at risk of not getting enough nutrients and slowing down your metabolism further, which will set you up for some major issues hormonally and healthwise.
