Any suggestions for equipment in my w/o room?

Hi Everyone,

I posted this elsewhere on these forums, but also wanted to post it here, so I can get all the info I need to set it up correctly.

Going to a gym is not an option for me since I live so far away from one.

What kind of equipment is in your workout space? I want to get ready to train hard, but I don't think I could lift over 45-50 pounds over my head. Things like that. I have a small room (10'X 10'), so what do you all suggest? I have a treadmill, a climber, and a stationary bike. What else do I need? I don't have a bench, but I have many many risers to compensate for that, and a chin up bar. What else?

Hi!

You should get dumbells from 5 pounds all the way up to what ever you like to use and a barbell and some plates. They are the best for lifting (i think). Also a stability ball is great for so many things. A mat is a good idea as well depending on the type of flooring you have in your gym area. You can take a look at my picture trail and see my gym to get an idea. Have fun setting up your gym... we use ours every day for something. You will love it and can work out when ever you want!

Ooh Janie, how fun!! Well, I just set up a workout room that's about the size of yours, so I know your space is at a premium. I would definitely get a weight bench. I have one and I love it. It's so much sturdier than the step and safer, too, especially when you want to work on an incline or decline.

I would suggest racks for your dumbbells and plates. It's so much easier to find the weight you want, not to mention the stress it takes off your back when you don't have to pick your weights up off the floor.

A TV and DVD player is a must, but I'm sure you knew that;)

Fans!! If you're anything like me you'll need a turbo fan or 2 to keep you cool.

ETA full length mirrors would be nice so you can check your form:D

Oh yeah, mats for any equipment you have so you don't ruin your flooring.

Oh Brigitte,

OMG! I love your workout room. There is a bar hanging from someplace, what is that? Looks Like you could do some chest or shoulder work with that.

What a dear you are. I forgot to mention I own all the weights from 2# all the way up to 40# dumbells, and lots of plates for barbell weights.

Have everything you've mentioned, bless your heart, except maybe a mat, that would be wonderful, since I have carpeting.

I guess I'm kinda looking for an OK for a smith machine, but I just don't know if it will fit in my room, or really what it might be. Also and idea to use for the hamstrings and quads. I'm just not certain if there is something out there for those kinds of workouts, other than the gym.

I hope I didn't waste your time. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

Michele,

OK, bench, mats, and fans are on my list, and perhaps some mirrors. I have small racks to hold weights on, and they are doable, have dumbbells and a barbell. Have TV and DVD player.

Thank you so much, if anymore ideas pop up let me know.

Hi Janie,

Sounds like you are off to more than a great start with your home gym!! If you want ham/quad work.. get a bench with an attatchment for that purpose. Had a peak at your pictues. Congrads on the weight loss.. you look fab and healthy! Ohh, and the mirror is a great idea too check your form and to keep you motivated as you watch your muscles flex!

OOps, quick edit here. The bar is a lat pull down, also good for rowing with the attatchment. So worth it to get one.
