A Moment of Smugness

DH and I were at the grocery store this past Saturday, and we had a college freshman boy bagging groceries for tips as a fundraiser for his intramural sports team. New to the task of bagging groceries as he was, this huge young man saved all of the heavy stuff - juice and soda bottles, laundry detergent, etc. - for the last bag, and then grimaced as he picked it up.

I offered to take it from him and he said, "It's pretty heavy." "I'm pretty strong," I replied, took the bag in one arm and walked out of the store.

Ah, life is full.

Annette, that is brilliant ! :7 I bet his jaw hit the floor ! (Ooo, I am a poet and I didn't know it !) :7

Anna :)

You go, Annette!

I like the way being in shape makes us look youthful, as well as strong and capable. I loved the shocked look on my cousin's new bride's face when I revealed my age was a good ten years or so older than what she thought.

Hi Annette!

Love it when moments like these happen. I am the only chick singer with a Big Band and have to lift heavy pieces of sound equipment..in a gown, heals the works. Let me tell you, this is when I am glad I lift with Cathe! My DH lifts with Cathe too and plays sax with the same band. Often he will just look my way and wink! The other guys have learned not to ask if I need help.

Hi dmd,

Wow :-wow ! You are a Big Band singer - that is fantastic ! I love the Big Band music - do you have to dress up in 1940s outfits to look the part, and roll your hair ? :) I love the 1940s :)

DMD is a beautiful singer! I have one of their CD's. And...DMD is beautiful too! I have a pix of her in a gorgeous black formal dress. You can tell she is strong & defined from working out with Cathe. (Hi, Deb! :7)

Hello Anna!

Yes, I sing with a Big Band every weekend. I actually grew up singing Latin music ( grew up in a large Mexican family with an Orchestra). When I married my hubby we later became involved with this Big Band. I'm kind of their Anna Connie, for all you Laurence Welkers out there. Occasionally I will have to wear 40's attire with my hair in "brats"--VERY FUN. Most of the time we are in tux and gown for weddings/anniveraries etc. Your run of the mill Wedding Band thing.

Debbie H. was kind enough to send me exercise bands last year when the Band went on tour to England. We were there for almost three weeks! Some of the most BEAUTIFUL running I ever did was in North Yorkshire...found myself weepy while running among all the green hills and sheep. Felt like I was in a movie.

It's been fun getting to know you Anna on this board. Your Questions and entertaining threads are just what I need these days. Isn't this forum and the ladies here the BEST? Such a spirit of good will here. A soft place to fall with allot of muscle eh? Hope I didn't bore you with all this info.

Hey girl,

You are so nice...but then, we all know and expect that from you Deb. Working my bootie off these days to try and stay in those gowns! UGH!!!! How's that grandbaby doing? I was out for a run yesterday and I heard this little voice yelling:"Not too fast Nana!" It was a Grandma pushing her grandson in a babyjogger! I just had to giggle. AND I thought of YOU! When I think of fit and energetic woman who are grandmas you come to mind. Man, what an inspiration you are Deb. Good health makes life worth looking forward to.

Take care-Deb

Hey Deb!

Ha! (This could get confusing, two Deb's corresponding back & forth!) You are too sweet. It is sooo good to "see" you back here. I truly mean that. I miss us "talking" by E-mail and "snail-mail" too. I am sure you look great. It's funny you should ask about Jai, because the first time I saw her in the vids, I thought she reminded me of you! Dark hair, trim and beautiful!

Kennedy is doing great. She will be 17 months old next week!:7 She is such a joy to us. I can hardly stand to only be able to see her once a week due to the distance we live apart. But...when I get my mitts on her, I just want to squeeze her to death. She is going thru this "I-don't-want-to-be-held" stage. Talk about hard. Oh my! Thank you so much for the kind, kind words and YES, good health has made my life sooo worth looking forward to, even the "Nana" part of me. I will be in touch. C U around!
