8" step OK for Imax3?

Hi Cathe,
I'm 5'4'' and have always used an 8" step for all your workouts until Imax 3. I followed your instruction and started on a 6" step (also noticed that all your girls were using 6 so I figured I'd better take heed).
Now that I've been doing that particular workout once a week for about 11 weeks, I'm wondering if it's time to up it to 8". Not that I feel like I'm not winded enough, believe me!!!! I'm just wondering if it's time to take it to the next level and push myself harder (if that's possible;) ) I'm already a little worried about the very 1st interval using 8".
What do you say?
Thanks,
Lisa

RE: 8

Lisa:

it isn't necessary at all. Since you are only 5' 4", a 6" step seems perfect for you. Once Imax 3 at 6" gets "easy" (yeah, right!), then I guess you could try it at 8".

I am 5' 8" and have always used an 8" step. However, there are 2 intervals of Imax 3 where I was forced for the fist time ever to drop my step to 6" because the impact on the joints was excessive with the 8" step. I believe these are interval 6 and 7. So, I don't advise upping the step height for the whole workout. I think it is foolhardy to risk your joints in this manner.

RE: 8

Hi Lisa! I wouldn't advise it. There is a lot of fast footwork and overall impact that exits from the top of the step. 8 inches would pose more of a risk then a benefit. I would put more energy into the impact moves on the existing height (if you're not already). Take Care!

Thanks so much for the advice!! I'll definitely stick with the 6" then! I was a little worried about how hard some of those intervals would be at 8"...I was secretly hoping you'd tell me to stick with 6..he-he-he :)

Hi Lisa

Don't feel bad! IMAX 3 is the very first DVD/tape of Cathe's that I have ever done on a 6" step - I've always used 8". However when I got this one I couldn't get through it on an 8. I actually felt guilty putting it down to a 6 and thought well after a while I'll up it back to 8. Now after reading your post and Cathe's I think I'll leave well enough alone also. It's an incredible workout even on a 6" step don't you agree?

Sharon:) :)

RE: 8

I have actually fallen while using an 8 inch step when I should have used a 6 inch step. The straddle taps are extremely tricky with an 8 inch step. If you go to an 8 inch, you should probably go down to a 6 inch while doing those moves.

RE: 8

Hi Cathe,

I was wondering what you suggested I do--I have been using an 8 inch step all along for IMAX 3, not realizing I should have been using a 6 inch step.

Do you think I risk injuring myself if I continue to keep it at 8 inches, since that is the height I have gotten used to?

I love IMAX 3 and all the hardcore workouts that I have--thank you so much!!
