46 (2 missed cycles)

Hello,

I'm 46 years old and I have always had regular on the dot periods until 2 months ago. When I first missed my cycle I thought for sure it was because I was under a lot of stress, my mom was having some health issues in and out of the hospital and me not being able to be there for her. Yet another month has gone by and still no period! Can it be early menopause? I have no other symptoms as far as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood sings, night sweats, fatigue, maybe loss of libido but only because I get up at 2:30 am and I'm exhausted by 7-8 pm. I feel like my period is trying to come in, but it's not happening. Has any one else in there mid 40's experience this? Thank you!

Lourdes

Are you on birth control pills by chance?

I'm 46 and I haven't had a period in at least 3 years. I went off the pill for a month and they did blood work and the blood work showed I was not going through menopause. I went back on the pill. For the one month I was off I spotted and then the following month it was back to nothing. Once in a while I have the cramps and I usually get the headaches at that time but I'm so used to having headaches I don't know what it's like not to have one.

Maybe go to the doc and have them do blood work to see if you are or not.

Thank you for your response! No I have never taken birth control pills. I will give it a few more weeks to see if it maybe comes in before I go to the doctor. Thanks again!

It is probably stress related, a lot of times your period will stop if you are stressed. My friend went into early menopause due to stress, had no period for 6 months and now it is back. I would take precautions with birth control just in case!!

May I ask you what your body fat percentage is? Sometimes, if our body fat is too low, our menstrual cycles stop. Men can get by with very low body fat. Women, however, need more fat for adequate hormone function.

Regardless of low body fat, I suggest seeing your doctor and having him/her run some blood tests. Get a baseline account of your hormone levels and then do another round of blood work 3 months later. Your doctor can then examine your hormone levels and see if they are trending up or down. Based on that, your doctor can prescribe a course of action.

Hope this helps... :)

I agree with Lucy fit. Its really important to seek medical attention. If something is not normal for you, its best to see your doctor. Just to be sure and to be safe. If it turns out to be nothing or its normal....great! The female body can be a mystery with a mind of its own. Better to be safe!

two missed periods in a row? it might just be peri-menopause moving further along until you arrive at menopause. Even after not having a period for over 2 years (had two cycles in that two year period) my naturopathic dr. told me my numbers showed I was still in the peri phase???? and not full blown menopause.

Maybe see your doctor and get some blood work done - estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, iron etc...

Good luck. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about (stress can affect your cycle for sure).

I stopped my periods at 46. Was not sleeping well, some signs of meno. Dr took blood tests, they showed I wasn't in meno but I had no detectable estrogen. Dr said no wonder I felt awful! Said My ovaries quit making estrogen for some reason and was going to treat as if I was in meno. she put me on HRT, feel so much better! I still never had another period, that was 4 yrs ago.

I have no idea what my fat percentage is or how much I weigh. I will have to make it a point to go see my doctor since I haven't been to go since before the birth of my daughter almost 4 years ago. Thanks!

That's the funny thing...I feel great!! Quite the opposite I'm extremely moist and sleep like a log. I'm glad your feeling better!!

I started going through menopause at 42. My periods totally stopped at 48. It's a possibility, for sure.

I just turned 47 two weeks ago and I am in the same situation right now. I have missed 2 cycles, and also under stress for the past year. My mother has health issues and has been in and out of hospital and also my brother passed away. I have always been 28 days exactly. I have missed a few cycles the past couple of years. When I was 45, I missed 3 cycles then when I was 46 I had it happend twice - once for 2 months & once for 3 months. No other symptoms of meno except for problems sleeping and every once in awhile feeling too hot during the night. My OB visit a few months ago told me I am not in meno but peri-meno to just expect this will happen from time to time as meno approaches. It is uncomfortable at times because I am bloated like I normally would get just before but I'm not too concerned about it since it seems like this is the road I'm on now. If you are worried about it, maybe a dr visit can ease your mind. Good Luck!
