    Organizing a 5k: any advice?

I've taken on the task of helping organize a 5k for my local animal shelter and animal rescue groups (which I suggested in the first place), and was wondering if anyone here has experience in the organizational side of things and could give me some tips? I've participated in many 5ks, but as...

What do you all think of Ensure?

ITA! And the main ingredients in the regular formula are sugars.

Think my hip bursitis in back ...

I don't think foam rolling would be a good idea: it's great for conditions like tight muscles and working through trigger points, but bursitis (and any other -itis condition) is associated with inflammation, and foam rolling or massage of the area would just tend to aggravate it. Stretching...

What were your first workouts ever???

Some workouts on vinyl records: Jane Fonda, Joanie Greigans (sp) and Bess Motta, IIRC. My first video workouts were Cher's two workouts.

ricochet's and long hop turns (help please!)

Just remember that moves are broken down into 8 counts, and as you watch, try to link the counts with your moves.

What's AGE got to do with it?

I know exactly what you mean! I feel 35...but then there's that older woman looking at me from the mirror (especially right after getting up, yikes!)

Lost- the loss of one you love

I am so sorry for your loss. How tragic for someone so young to die so unexpectedly. I know that no words will make up for that loss, but I'm sending you lots of love and thoughts.

ricochet's and long hop turns (help please!)

I hate ricochets. and usually modify, but if you do them: the same foot always stays on the step (if your right side is towards the step, that's the foot that will stay on the step) and you hop to unload that foot while making 180-degree turn forward, touch the floor on the other side of the...

Anyone else use sunscreen as moisturizer??

I've read that any SPF over 25 or 30 makes so little difference in protection, and requires so much more chemicals, that it's not worth using.

How do you keep track of the weights you use for each DVD?

I,m very low tech: I just use a spiral notebook, and write out the exercises before I do the workout, and plug in the weights. One advantage to that is I am able to write note to myself and change things while I am doing the workout (one disadvantage is that if I'm all sweaty, some of my notes...

    Kitty pee problem =(

Christine Marie gave great advice. My first thought was that the odor of your husband's feet reminds the cat of urine (something humans might not notice, but kitty does). Putting shoes where kitty can't get to them is the first line of defense. A trip to the vet for a checkup is a good idea...

    Dirty feet in Pilates workout!

Fetish alert! I've seen some dirty feet in yoga and pilates videos. You'd think they'd clean the floors and/or wipe their feet between takes to avoid that.

    5k Challenge Rankings

I'm bummed there's no walking category, as my 34:42 (a new PR) looks kind of slow compared to runners. :(

    Anyone know about pet rats?

My mother had pet white rats (my parents were divorced, so we didn't live together). From what I remember, her rats (rats in general, I assume) are not 'potty trainable' and just let go with little pellets whenever and wherever they may be (like climibing on someone or walking around the house).

    Hiit/ compared to regular cardio

Ivy, I've read quite a bit about running/walking training that says that longer cardio (LSD: long, slow, distance walks/runs, that would be the equivalent to longer steady-state cardio) teach the body to burn more fat for fuel, which may be one reason why you have better results with longer, SSC...

    My first 5K

Sounds like you had a great time! When's the next one? Are you feeling the urge? Now that you have one under your belt and know what to expect (though one should always 'expect the unexpected') the next ones should be easier. Interesting about the hay bales. I did a 5k Challenge a couple of...

    Beware of credit card fraud!

I've heard that more CC numbers are stolen through in-person transactions (cashiers making duplicates of the number, or even using a device to clone all the info) than online. Just this past weekend, my car was broken into (sitting in my driveway, when I was home, but I didn't hear it). The...

    My first 5K

Hi, Nicole! I've been doing 5ks and shorter races for the past 4 years, first as a speed walker (my very first race, a 2 mile walk, was one I just heard about 3 days prior, and I had no idea I'd be as fast as I was compared to others, in spite of some goofs, like taking my MP3 player and...
