    Joe Paterno

I agree with everybody on this thread that the law should be pursued to the max, in nailing everybody at PSU who knew about the sexual mosestations on and off campus. We should not forget Mr. Sandusky, who set up a CHILDRENS charity -- and used the charity to abuse young boys. He deserves the...

Are sliding discs necessary for LIS?

Ok, I am ready to start buying some of Cathe's LIS videos. I noticed that sliding discs are used a lot. Is it necessary to buy these to enjoy the videos? I used paper plates for a few of the exercizes in STS. -- David

    Deadlift question

In the past I have had the same troubles as Traildoggie. I think deadlifts (and barbell rowss) are healthy for the back -- so I try not cutting them out of strength excercize videos. What I do is to lighten up (as TD says) to a bare minimum. Also, what I do is go to a half speed, and do half as...

DH said he doesn't want man arms on me grrrr

I agree with Evilgrin on this one. Husbands should be supportive of their spouse in any endeavor where the spouse is improving herself and being successful. Husbands should be supportive. Other arguments could crop up if a wife earns more than the husband, and so forth. Having strong arms is...

Anybody Have a Washing Machine Recommendation?

I bought a Kenmore 400 machine two years ago and it seems to work ok. It is a basic machine and was reasonably inexpensive. -- David

    CATHE IS AWESOME...

Margarita and others: I agree completely! There are so many positive things about Cathe's DVDs, this site and the entire Cathe experience. If I might focus on one thing, I would say that Cathe is a great motivator: I seem to try harder with her workouts than the others. I can't put a finger on...

Doritos: the cause of North America's obesity epidemic?

Robert Fulford claims that Doritos way back when started North America's mass snacking craze, snacking while TV watching. This was the start of our obesity epidemic: Bet you can't eat just one Fuford is a good writer, and this piece makes for an interesting read. -- David

    Which DVD would you get?

I have both DVDs, and both would be useful. But I enjoy MIS/PH more, so I keep returing to this video. If one wants a strength DVD without aerobics, I recommend MIS/PH. -- David

    Hurricane Irene

Silbow, and any others in the direct path, please stay safe. Here in New Brunswick, Canada, we are in the direct path, but the hurricane should be downgraded to a tropical storm when it hits here. This storm is big. The first clouds have come over our heads here, from the storm, yet the eye...

    Beginner question about weights.....

Susan: Not Cathe here but these are my non-expert answers - 1. From what I've learned from DVD instructors, it is best to be able to do all 12 reps for the first set, and to struggle with the last reps on the last set. I have several Cathe tapes where she in fact has to struggle with the...

    Any College Profs in CatheNation?

I agree with kathryn's statements here. I went back to do a PhD in my early 30's -- as a career change -- and it took a lot of work and study. One should only do a PhD unless you are a keener in your line of study, where you already are doing a lot of reading in your area. In my case, I found...

    new to interval training

I'm far from being an expert -- and I am getting back into excercizing after too long of a break -- but I am getting back by going easy, and going for a session of 30-40 min each day. After a month or so I will be lengthening the workouts. To go all out, and then quitting early, could get...

    Push-up challenge automatically records a "0" number, for non-participants

Dear Administrator: Regarding the pushup challenge. For people simply reading the instructions -- or checking the leader board -- without recording their own pushup record, these people get an automatic "0" reading. If you look at the leader board, the majority of people have "0" records. -- David

    weighted bar instead of barbell

I don't know. But an alert reader mentioned that there are workout cards published -- available somewhere -- which lists each excercize in Cathe's strength videos, along with the weights that she uses. If anyone knows how to access these cards, I would appreciate a post on this. Don't forget...

    weighted bar instead of barbell

Melly: If you have a body bar, say a 15# one, you can always add to the weight using soft ankle weights on each end. If you buy a number of these, you can up the poundage. I have two pair of 1# and two pair of 1 1/2# ankle weights to use with bodybars. This seems to work well -- and this...

As seen on TV - Shake Weights

I agree with everybody on this thread about the questionable value of "shake weights". One commercial claims that three DVDs were produced to use with this these things. The problem is is that when a new product comes on the market, and only one or a very few DVDs are made to use with them, and...

What Cathe series or rotation is your plateau buster?

I agree with Belinda. I do all of Cathe's strength videos (they're easily the best around), but STS gets the best results. I think this is true since the series is so tough -- in a way I am over my head trying these out. That's why I think they get results, they are so tough to do. -- David

    STS Legs Meso 1

Dawn: I certainly agree with Wendy's point about lowering the poundage, as a way to make it though the entire workout. I am an older exercizer, so I try to do as much of an STS video as possible, before quitting. On other trick I do is to alternate half way through the lunges on one leg, then...

    Barbell Position for Plie Squats?

I am no expert on squats or anything. But Cathe in one of her earlier strength DVDs mentions that with plie squals there is a bit of a frontwards/backwards balance problem -- since one's feet are pointed sidewards. So Cathe and the crrew hold their weights (barbells I think) in front to help...
