Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/19

Carolyn congratulations on reaching a milestone. once a year is often enough! the center I use switched to 3D last year and I had to come in for repeats. plus I have a pacemaker that gets in the way. it is metal and solid and makes the machine reject the image. so a lot of jerking around to get it done. much more so with the 3 D version. my mother had breast cancer so I worry a lot every time.
I did a lot of shopping today and took the day off.
I read an article in the "arts" section of the sunday paper about Misty Copeland. my god.. an incredible woman and amazing body with grace and strength. I guessed she was she is 6 feet tall (at least) because of her proportions but she is only 5'2". maybe everyone knows about her and I am asleep at the switch. I don't usually follow ballet because the women usually look waif-like and anorexic. she is gorgeous and muscular. she looks more like an Olympic gymnast but is a dancer. what a incredible beautiful body.

Today I did Body Blast series, Step Blast, 55 minutes, 425 calories. I then did Step Jump and Pump Step only premix, 26 minutes, 172 calories. 81 minutes, 597 calories. I think I have been under some stress with so many things here at once. My heart rate was way up there for a high on Step Blast Fit Bit had it at 189 and SJP had it at 178. That is the high point. Average was 149 and 137.. This is not the norm for me. I got up this morning and the phone and Fit Bit said it was an hour later than it should have been. So I went to change the time and get the Bluetooth paired again and the internet was not working. So, that is how the morning started  I got it fixed though. Then I went to the store and forgot some items I needed. My husband brought some sample items from some women at work to try and see if I want to order from them. He said a one lady's items were organic. I tried to eat the bar as it said coconut on it. One bite and I knew it was soap:eek: Hopefully all is better tomorrow. I have to take the other phone to the post office. I am thinking they should have cleared it out and saved my stuff for me as it seems to be working fine with the default apps only on it now. I have been looking up passwords and log ins for everything I moved to the phone they sent me. What a pain!! I can't find my call protect that I had on my other phone that was a free ATT item. This afternoon I finally just put on music and sang while doing some cleaning and managed to let go of some steam :) I am sure that sounds weird but between that and playing around on the piano working on some easy music I have been trying to learn was relaxing.

Deb, they did not figure out anything with the phone. They just looked at it and said yes it is not working it is under warranty. Then all kinds of warnings about if I send it in and it is damaged or has been wet I will be charged for the new phone and get it back. I told them it was through the update. I felt like they were trying to talk me out of doing anything but not willing to help. The problem that was fixed was the internet. I have to make Gertie a batch of her dog treats about once a week. I started adding a spoon of pumpkin to them and they still bake up crisp and she loves them. She goes through al l kinds of antics to get her treats.

Valerie, I believe that is what my daughter's used. There mosquito netting over their beds were sprayed as well while in Haiti. I always get the 3D mammograms. They are always a bit more difficult with implants as they have to push them out of the way. I can only imagine having a metal pacemaker being in there. Insurance doesn't cover 3D but I always will pay the difference.

Carolyn, the breast care center called today to see if I wanted my yearly appointment for April, but I told her I just had a breast MRI and other tests and I did not think I needed one at this point. She said to call when I am ready to have one. Generally my doctor's office calls and sets it up for me.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday, just not feeling up to it. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon though still pretty cold.

Valerie, thanks for the link to the stuff you spray on your clothes. We have a Cabela here, and will definitely have John start using this on his fishing clothing. I had no idea who Misty Copeland was either.

Carolyn, good for you for sticking with the workout, even if you had to modify. Anything with the word "plyo" in it makes me run the other way! LOL. That is so great that you will be able to have yearly mammograms.

Diane Sue, your day sounds hectic, and aggravating, no wonder you ate soap! Is there a way you can get everything off of your phone before sending it back? Do a factory reset? I should look at your dog treat recipe. I like using Zuke's Skinny Bakes...they had them on sale this past week at Pet Supplies Plus so I stocked up on them...they were 50% off what I pay on Amazon.

Working at the office today, then a dog club meeting tonight..(ugh!),

Take care,

Drb, I did manage to get pretty much all of my stuff off of the old phone. I used several methods. One was holding the two phones together. The other was with a little device we got with the phone where you link two together and push which device is receiving and which is sending. I am just missing my ATT call protect which seems like it should not be hard to get back. I couldn't find the app. Lots of finding passwords and this morning Yahoo was wanting me to set up an account security key so more work.
I would like to be able to use other dog treats and I remember looking up those you get on Amazon. I am afraid of added sugars in the treats along with the cellulose many have. So making them works. I even bought bone shaped cookie cutters. Not that she cares what shape they are. At least I will not have grandchildren raiding her cookie jar now.

Today will be a leg workout. Family dinner and I need to hit the store and post office.

Deb, for when you get the permethrin spray.. it works best to lay things flat. I put all the garments together on the floor with newspaper underneath. I spray them one at a time. any over spray or drips run off #1 onto #2 etc. nylon especially doesn't soak up liquid immediately. if the clothes are hanging up, half the spray drips to the floor. this way it soaks to the next layer. after the spray has wet the fabric, I hang them outside to dry. if he uses a day pack, do that too. I don't spray things that get washed every use, like socks and t shirts. I do pants, long sleeve nylon shirts, packs.
we usually wear our pants and shirts multiple times between washings, so one treatment is usually good for the season. we still do skin tick checks. we mainly have tick problems in spring and early summer. don't know about your area.

diane sue implants must be worse!. at least a pacer is only one side. it doesn't hurt but it makes the plastic plates release before the image is complete. my pacer is completely invisible. one benefit to boobs. on men you can often see the outline.

DH has finally realized he will need to get a phone. we will not have a land line at our vacation house so we will finally both need one. I've been sole phone carrier all this time. . he loses things. it will be a challenge for him to keep track of it. women are used to carrying something all the time but he is used to handing everything to me to keep track of.

Today was RWH HiiT Circuit Lower Body, 50 minutes and 359 calories burned. This month is very focused on legs, which works well for me. My average heart rate was 129 and max heart rate was 164.

Diane Sue, your experience with phone and internet sounds like it was very frustrating. Good for you for sticking with it! My breast specialist schedules my mammogram appointments also.

Valerie, Misty Copeland is certainly an amazing person. I read that she was originally discouraged from studying ballet because she doesn't have the stereotypical dancer's body.

Hi to everyone. Have a great afternoon.

Today I did Ripped with Hiit Circuit Lower Body Extreme mix #6, 67 minutes, 517 calories. Vg. heart rate 128/ max 161.

Valerie, I wash pants after two washings. Shirts it depends on how long I wear them and what I have been doing. I hadn't thought about breasts hiding the pacer. That would be an advantage. They had a hard time before I got implants getting breast tissue squeezed in the machine before I had implants. It was more painful because I got pinched a lot. Now it is shoving them back which is not quite so painful. I do not enjoy those visits but they are a necessity.

Carolyn, I did the same workout today except extended. I see we were getting almost the same heart rate.

I don't treat hiking pants like street clothes. they always get dirty so they stay that way a while. I use convertible ones. they are shorts too. after wearing the same garments for several days backpacking, my standards of "dirty" are adjusted. I wear a nylon sun block shirt over a t shirt, so the outer shirt doesn't get stinky, and holds onto the permethrin for a while because it's not being washed all the time. we both have several garments we wear only for hiking. I had my cardiologist push the pacer battery more toward mid line for me so it wouldn't be underneath pack straps all the time.
I have a normally low heart rate. no way would it ever get that high! 160 is just about off the charts for me.

Good evening ladies.

Today and yesterday were rest days. I looked at my activity app on my iphone and realized I had worked out 11 days straight. My body was tired so I needed the rest.

Carolyn...Congrats to you! That is fantastic!!!!!!

Diane Sue...so you've used the rebounder for non rebounding workouts too! It was really fun and changed things up for sure. I amd going to try out a few move of the Live workouts and see if I like them as much. Glad you were able to save all your pictures. Some nice workouts the past few days. I too can see how you at soap. You had a ton going on.

Deb...I felt the same way the past few days. Just did not feel like a workout. I really needed the break.

Valerie...I chuckled with your standards of dirty are adjusted! Too funny but completely makes sense. Did not realize you can move the pace battery. Good that you were able to.

Have a great night all!

Carolyn, it is nice to see someone else that doesn't have these way out there heart rate readings and huge calorie burns. I have seen some from Beach Body check in challenge groups that would show their sweaty self and this huge calorie burn on their device and I would have done the same workout and had half what they had.

Valerie, that is good that you could have the pacer put in a comfortable spot for you.

Lori, I sort of hate to have to take off too many days as next month I may be taking off a lot if we get stuff going on doing some remodeling around here. I am not sure how all of that will work out. The rebounder worked well for me with some of the work on T25 Speed 3.0 (other than the lunge jumps) I did contemplate some subbing another type of move for that on the rebounder. Sometimes I have had it set up and while doing a floor workout I would get on the rebounder for the big jumping moves. But, yes , it works for some workouts for the whole workout. I am pretty used to on and off the rebounder jumping after doing URX-MT so much. It makes it easier to figure modifications etc..
The soap really was kind of funny. It said coconut chunk on it, go nuts. What was I to think it was? There was a packet of Tango mango or something like that. I am lucky I didn't think it was a sauce. The soap smells nice though .

Lori I almost can't believe I asked my cardiologist to do that! I asked before the surgery for the pacer install. (you are blotto during the surgery) the battery is an inch or so more toward midline so it's not under pack straps all the time. yep, I showed up at the surgical suite with my backpack and drew the lines where the pacer battery needed to be outside of. I still need to put padding on my pack strap to raise it up off the front of my armpit. I got a DVT from my pack strap pressing down on the area, so even the best plans can still be messed up. I don't want to repeat that. there are wires from the battery to my heart and they run thru a vein to get there. pressure from a pack strap on the vein caused a DVT. I had to be anticoagulated for 6 months and I do NOT want to do that again. so that is probably WAY more than anyone wanted to know about pacemakers. I was having occasional events where my heartbeat didn't initiate like it should, and I was fainting. happened every few weeks but that is enough to need a fix.

Good morning,

No workout, I worked in the office yesterday, then we had a late dog club meeting.

Diane Sue, I never heard of holding the 2 phones together....can you do that to move something like a play list from one phone to the other? or is it just for deleting stuff on one of the phones?

Valerie, thanks for the tips on spraying the clothes. I probably would have hung them and wasted a lot of the stuff! Good luck with your DH and the phone. I finally got John to get one....now working on getting him to keep it on. :). He wants it to be a phone to use when he needs to make a call....not so that people can contact him.

Lori, good to take a rest day after 11 straight days of workouts!

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Take care,

I did total body metabolic again yesterday

My DH is the same as yours about calls. He's had a phone before but almost never used it and never charged it. Just a prepaid cheapie, but those are barely available anymore. we will be in a way less metro area so need Verizon coverage for it to work
Now, If one of us goes somewhere with our i-phone, there will be no way to contact each other.no land line there. I would rather get another i-phone but he is not used to having a phone all the time and it might (???) get misplaced or lost. may be best to break him in with a cheapie.

You want the garments completely wetted down. Spray beads up and runs off a lot of fabrics and I'm guessing john has nylon or nylon blend clothes. Spraying is on my to-do list soon also. need to get a new bottle of permethrin.
diane sue I'm not sure if this is the same stuff used to repel mosquitos in tropical areas. I use permethrin on my clothes and pack, and mosquito repellant, when needed, on exposed skin. I don't like to use sunscreen too, so a long sleeve shirt cuts down on areas that need treating. mosquito repellants don't work very well for me. picaridin ( 20%) is tested as most effective, more even than DEET. I don't hike much if mosquitos are a problem because none of the stuff works well for me. I am a tasty bite for most insects, and I get a strong reaction from most bites.

Deb, this is the first time I have done this with phones. It did not delete anything from either phone. It just added the apps from one phone to the new one, but still kept them on the old one as well. It was a set up and transfer app that I think came with my Samsung phone. The S 7 also has a device that you can use to transfer apps and if to the other phone with a USB link. I think you can choose what apps you want with it. It worked well with the holding the phones together. I learned one thing and that is to get rid of unused and unwanted apps first. I don't think it would move your Playlist to another phone though. If a Playlist is in a app it seems like it would still be there in that same app once you log in. I have not checked between my devices with Amazon music. I have never figured out how to get my iTunes music to my Samsung. The only thing I have been able to do with that is transfer the music to CD's when I want it. Technology is mind boggling to say the least.

Today I did JS 30 Minute Fat Blaster using hand weights. I thought that the weights were 1 pound but I checked them today and they are 1 and a half pounds. I have 2 sets of these weights that came with a Leslie Sansone DVD and one with a WW exercise DVD.

Lori, good for you on taking a needed rest day. I also like to vary the intensity of my workouts to avoid burnout.

Valerie, my husband misplaces his phone all the time. He has a heavy duty case and a belt holder, but he often puts the phone down and not remember where he put it.

Greetings to everyone.

back from mt biking 2 hrs 10 min. this ride used to take us closer to 2 .5 hours. we have both gotten better. we even stopped to do some bird watching... migrating ducks. saw some hooded mergansers, buffleheads, and a wood duck. so pretty. still pretty cold but at least not raining today.

Carolyn yes, my DH will do it that too. we've always had another phone we could use to call and locate the lost phone. he is so used to handing stuff to me! enabling in a way. now he's talking about getting another i-phone so the same apps are on it and both work the same for updating . I don't need more technology challenges.

Today I did Kelly Coffey's Amped Up Cardio Live workout #2, 30 minutes, 203 calories, heart rate 135 average/ 164 max. I then did Les Mills Combat Power Kata, 44 minutes, 340 calories, heart rate average 145/ max 184?? I finished with Strong and Sweaty bonus abs, 14 minutes, 67 calories. Total time 88 minutes, 610 calories. 7005 steps. I am almost ready to pass my 10,000 steps mark again.
We have been going over carpeting and flooring. We want to do some remodeling and put in new carpet and flooring and paint the interior walls in all rooms but the upstairs bath and kitchen which we have recently done. It will be a lot of work, but we will enlist our grandson's help. They will appreciate making some extra money. Will have to come up with some sort of scaffolding or something for those lower level to upper level ceiling walls and the stair area. We bought a new garbage disposer today. Ours has started leaking out of the bottom. A week ago it just fell out of the sink. I was standing there running water and my feet got wet. Then my son came over and reattached it. It had hardly any seal left. Now it is leaking out the screws. My son in law is going to install the new one tomorrow.

Carolyn, I have a pair of 1 # weights I got from Avon when my daughter was selling it. They have the handles and I sometimes use them for my boxing workouts instead of the gloves. I forget that the other pair I have with handles is 2# at times and I do pick them up for things. I also attach these with the handles to the end of my barbell for a small weight increase .

Valerie, my husband just tends to forget his phone sometimes. He almost always has it on a belt clip or in a pocket on his pants. He likes the pocket pants for carting his things around. He recently forgot his phone but his new Gear watch has it's own phone number and he messaged me from the watch to let me know to call his watch if I needed anything. I do not need any extra technology to learn. We do not share all of the same apps and our phone settings. I know my daughters and their husbands do. My daughter was sitting here the other day and asking her husband if he just added these money saving apps and he said he was. I thought , that would drive me crazy.

Good evening ladies!

Still no workout. Today was my 3rd day. I have been working a lot of hours and I really needed the rest. I have an early morning doctors appt so will not be working out in the morning. Hoping to get a jump in when I get home. If not I am not going to worry about it. I'll be right back into it come this Saturday and will workout like a crazy fool to make up for the loss workouts. Need to get my SB rotation curren!

Diane Sue...the jump sport is tall so I can't imagine jumping off of it like in the Urban workouts. I would not enjoy that at all. They look really intense though. Really great workouts today. Good for you. Good luck with all the home improvements. It gets to be a pain after a while but boy you are always happy when everything is done. Great that your grandsons can do some of the work.

Valerie...congrats on the improvemnts with time! All this talk about misplaced cell phones. I am the one that puts my phone down and forgets all the time. Whether at work or home. I am always searching for it. I use the app Find my Iphone and love it. They crack up all the time at work.

Carolyn...how did the 1.5lb weights feel? Would you use them again? I find sometimes doing cardio like the JS 2#s are uncomfortable so I stick to the 1#. Certain cardio workouts 2lbs work well but when my arms are all over the place I need ro stay lighter. The 1.5# sound like they may be perfect.

Deb...no plans for the weekend other than just to do nothing!

Have a great night all!

Lori, I had read that the Bellicon was taller too. I don't know if a person could modify the moves etc. leaping off and on. Cathe has some workouts where you are leaping off and on a taller step, like the Hiit workouts. Some of the workouts in URX-MT do not have so much leaping off and on. I believe there are two that are pretty much on the rebounder. One of the Greg Cook ones really does not have you jumping off and on. You do some strength work off of the rebounder and the circuit one has tubing that attaches on the hooks for the springs that came with it. Most might be doable I would need to try it out on something taller. Maybe imagine something taller the next time I do one. I have all of the moves written out on those workouts. The last one Greg Cook did outside the original set was a circuit that had the basic moves with the rebounder then off the rebounder to do pull ups and weights then back to the rebounder for those moves again. I would say Greg Cook and Amy's were the most intense workouts. Patrick Goudeau has the shortest one at around 45 minutes that is a favorite, intense, hardly any use of the weights and a great calorie blaster. Not overly crazy with the moves. I like those workouts a lot. They were a little too tough though right after my knee surgery and that is when I purchased the Tracey Anderson which I feel was pretty much a waste of 25 dollars. How is that smaller jump sport holding up after you got the clips?
