no chapters on ipad

Hi
when I play my downloads in itunes I am able to access the chapter menu, but when I play them on my ipad, no chapter menu is there. the downloads are showing up as home movies vs videos on my ipad. does that have something to do with it? not sure how that happened or how to change it.
