Week of Jan 12 Pregnancy Check In

Cathlete
Good morning ladies, just thought i would get us started. Its Monday and Im at work so its probably going to get pretty busy here in a while!

Im not quite awake yet. I went to bed at 11, after I watched Housewives. Im feeling huge today. Fat, pregnant and swollen. Sigh..i have not been eating too great lately so i only have myself to blame! I'm working out tonite and tomorrow nite, altho i dont know which workout is on the agenda for tonite just yet. I usualy decide right before i do it.

Anyhoo...off to take this call, i hope you all have a great Monday!

Hey all,

I'm feeling big as well, primarily because I didn't have a bm at all yesterday! All I ate up until dinner was breakfast (6 clementines and some wheat bran), a package of salmon and an apple. I knew I was hungry because I was getting a headache late afternoon, but I just wasn't "feeling" hungry. Everything changed this morning. :D

Got my nails done so that was an indulgence and had an awesome workout mixing up three different Cathe workouts: all cardio (12 min) of high step circuit, Timesaver KPC (25 min), 10 min of track 1 of Timesaver. I trained one client and then worked on shoulders, abs, and calves (45 min). It was a good morning. The only downfall was that one of the guys in the gym yelled across the floor (while I was training a client), "How's the baby doing?" I asked him what he meant and he said, "You're Laura. I can tell on you." I was embarrassed, but as I've only gained 5 lbs and people are starting to notice, I am getting freaked out. The fitness coordinator also told me (twice in five days) that two different people have asked her if I was expecting because it looked like I've gained some weight---5 FREAKING POUNDS!!! I'm afraid of what people will think when I'm 7, 8, 9, or 10 months preggo. Okay, so maybe it's because I wear really tight workout clothes in the gym and my belly is slightly larger, but COME ON people. Give me a break. It's like....."Laura has a good bod so it's okay to say something to her about it??????"

I know, I'm being sensitive, but it IS my first and I consider myself really fit. Hey, 5 pounds is pretty good, but I don't want people to start putting their hands on my belly in the gym. Only one person has tried to do that so far. I stopped her and said, "Nope, the baby's sleeping." Why is it that we teach our children about personal space and respecting it, but when a woman is pregnant it's completely okay to invade that space???? Sounds like a double standard to me. At least ASK first. I know I'm snippy--but I own it.

I'm freaking out, I know so any reassurance is much appreciated. :(

Hi Laura,
Well the reassurance is this - you MUST put on weight to keep the baby healthy. You certainly do not want to starve yourself or the baby. The great news is you are already healthy and fit, so you will not gain a lot of fat. It sounds like you dont even eat enough, and you workout so PLEASE be careful. You have more than yourself to think about now. I always have to remind myself of that and have forced myself to eat lunch even when im not hungry because i know the baby needs nourishment. So you have to be a little selfless and just do it :) Its hard, and seeing the numbers go up is really hard too. I know the first three months i was at the same weight and it was great. But i've gained over 30 pounds now. Do you know how HORRIFYING that is to me????? I would love to have just packed on 5 pounds! (Who would have ever thought i'd say that?!?!) haha.

Anyway, i workout too and im also fit as well, but we ARE pregnant and weight gain is not only NORMAL but essential! Of course people will start to notice becuase you will start to show more and more. But most likely they will tell you how adorable you are and how you are ALL belly. I hear that all the time, and even tho i feel like a huge beached whale, its still a nice thing to hear. My DH tells me i dont look pregnant from behind so that is nice too. Lately i feel gross and fat and my eating choices havent been the greatest. I need to get back on track so im going to try harder this week!

Anyway, rest assured that you will be just fine. REmember Ryan is DEPENDING on his/her mommy!!!! You MUST feed the baby. I already know you wont go overboard on eating, but please be sure to eat enough. THe baby needs about 300 more calories than you would normally eat. But since you workout, its probably even more. Just make sure you are both getting enough. And since you make healthy food choices, and workout for a living (lucky!!) you will do just fine.

So, try not to freak out so much about the weight gain. At least you dont sit at a desk all day like me! :) Of course, everyone on here knows i've been freaking out about my own weight gain, but really, there is nothing you can do about it. You will gain weight, you are pregnant and its normal and healthy. And after baby, you will easily lose it.

Hopefully this has helped a little :)
Dont listen to other people. Usually they are very happy to see another person pregnant. I have found people are nicer to me (strangers) and that strangers will smile at me. That never happened before. So i guess people love when other people are preggo.

i have not had too much belly touching. a couple coworkers have touched my belly but i know them really well. i have not had a stranger come up to me though, thank goodness. that is just weird!!

you should get one of those T shirts that say "Dont Touch the Belly" haha :)

Hi Laura, Well the reassurance is this - you MUST put on weight to keep the baby healthy. You are so great--I don't have a problem with putting on the weight. My point is that I just don't like people commenting on it. The good thing is that those comments just reflect how much folks respect my physique. I do like that I am eating whatever I want and don't worry about it. Anyway, i workout too and im also fit as well, but we ARE pregnant and weight gain is not only NORMAL but essential! Of course people will start to notice becuase you will start to show more and more. But most likely they will tell you how adorable you are and how you are ALL belly. That's the one thing that I absolutely love--how beautiful I am preggo. THe baby needs about 300 more calories than you would normally eat. But since you workout, its probably even more.
That's what is so great! I workout and have absolutely no guilt about eating what I want, but I really don't want the grease (thankfully). However, today I did have a Doner (Turkish speciality) with meat, cheese and sauce. Yummy! Just make sure you are both getting enough. And since you make healthy food choices, and workout for a living (lucky!!) you will do just fine. So, try not to freak out so much about the weight gain. At least you dont sit at a desk all day like me! :) Actually, I do! I only train clients part time. I sit on my butt in an admin job for 8 hours.
you should get one of those T shirts that say "Dont Touch the Belly" haha
That's a great idea! I love it!

Hello! Ahhh...feelin' huge. I'm feeling it too. My back has been hurting every day from this increased weight. I'm a stay-at-home mom, but I'm on my feet for most of the day. I do a lot of playing and running with my kiddo, and I think that's why my back starts to hurt at the end of the day. I probably should watch my posture/positions/twisting, but I don't even think about it until it starts to hurt. = ( I think I'll check on a belly support thing today at BabiesRUs.

I keep telling myself that we're supposed to lose 12 lbs immediately after delivery. I've read that twice recently. Hoping it's true. Something like 7 or 8 lbs baby, a few lbs for the placenta, a few more for blood/amniotic fluid. I've put on 25 lbs and will probably put on another 7 or 8. I only gained 26 with my first. I wonder how big she is. Can they tell weight during a sonogram? I have one coming up next week.

Ahh..strangers trying to touch the belly. That is rude. Just wait until they try to predict the gender. LOL I work pt at a golf course and twice when I was pregnant with DS, I was asked to turn around by strangers so they could look at my backside to predict the gender. I declined. Umm..wth??? Like my butt would tell them.

Can they tell weight during a sonogram? I have one coming up next week. I'm not sure. All I know is that when I went for my ultrasound on Thursday of last week, the doctor told me that the baby is the perfect size right now. Maybe they can tell by how big you get later on?

Ahh..strangers trying to touch the belly. That is rude. Just wait until they try to predict the gender. I don't know about the butt, but people have already started predicting on me from how I'm holding the baby--up top or down low

Laura, sorry i misunderstood. I guess my post was full of hot air! haha.
But, people are going to comment regardless you just have to shrug it off. Some people will tell you how amazing and tiny you are and that you are all belly, and others will say rude things. I once had a lady at work say 'jen is getting faaaa-aaaaaaaat". That really stung. I know i'm not fat, and i KNOW she was just kidding becuase she tells me all the time how small i am. But still, it leads to hurt feelings since its a senesitve issue for me. But im over it. So you just have to shrug it off and try not to let it bug you. Hard, i KNow.

Tana, the only time i was told the weight of the baby was at my last ultrasound in november, when she was almost 3 pounds and should have been more like 2. I dont know how they determine the weight, but they have ways to do so with mearsurements. Usually its just saying the baby looks fine and is measuring fine. I dont know how they determined teh weight. But they are not always accurate. My friends tell me that their doctors have been WAY off as to what the babys weight really is. So, you dont ever really know for sure!

I've never been asked to turn around to predict the gender. I have had strangers say you must be having a boy! And they are so wrong. Its a girl. So, i guess some people just like to give you their input :)

Tana -that is rude to want to look at your backside. your not a sideshow for peat sake. lol! And after DS #2 I went home 20 lbs lighter! no joke. but I did gain like 40#. I did start out "underweight" according to the drs though. I was pretty thin in no time though. The rest came off in the next few months and I wasn't even back into my exercise routine. This time I hope to start back sooner even if at only 30 minutes a time. I know being fit up until delivery really helps ALOT for your after baby shape. It was kinda weird to say the least but one of the drs at the hospital when Noah was being born commented on how thin/small I was for being preggo and that was after gaining 40lbs!

Laura -hey be pregnant and proud! doesn't mean you can't look fit and healthy and pregnant. ;) I've gained 15 lbs so far but you have been working out regular and I've only been back into it full time a couple weeks. Before now was sporadic at best. ugh! It seems it's all in my belly though. I'm still SHOCKED that when I go to church I still get comments from people who find out I'm expecting and couldn't tell?? what the heck? I'm walking around in maternity clothes?! Do they think I'm just gaining weight? I don't get it lol. one lady said my belly looked like one of her belly rolls yesterday lol. She was kidding around but was meaning I wasn't huge yet. Well I will be soon I know that from past experience. I go from comments about how small I am to how huge I am. ha. I'm pretty sure they can get a good estimate of the babys weight by measuring the baby with U/S. You should start gaining some more weight soon. 5 lbs isn't much at all. Unless your overweight (which your not) you are supposed to gain atleast 25 lbs overall I believe by the time your done.

Jen - Hope you have a good day at work. any news on the name picking? :)

Jen - oh just saw your last post. Yeah I don't get all those 'if your carrying this way its a girl/boy' stuff. they are almost never right so I never pay attention to it. lol. also when I was having constant headaches several people said it must be a girl. wrong!
Well from your last pic I think you look great! your working out and most preggo women don't at all!!! the swelling will dissapear after baby. I wouldn't let it bother you if that lady was only kidding. You are NOT getting fat and you know it too and you know she was kidding. Just blow it off! hugs.

THank you for the compliments jess :)

Ugh...i am not feeling well tonite. When i was driving home for work this wave of nausea passed over me and i felt like i couldnt breathe. I did not think i was going to make it home in one peice. But i got here. I sat down for a while after my DH left for work and decided i would try a workout.

I chose Cathes Circuit Max tonite. I haventdone that one in FOREVER. I remember it used to be dne on my easier workout days but it kicked my butt tonite. THe cardio anyway. And my foot hurt. Maybe becuase i'm pregnant and also not feeling the best. But at least i did some sort of workout.

some how its 845pm already. Im going to try to go to bed early but im not alaywas successful in doing that. i hope im not getting sick, thats the last thing i need right now!

I just got home from a sorority meeting and tonight the women were all commenting about how I was finally looking pregnant. Um...I've looked pregnant for quite some time so think they were really trying to say I look like a whale. Haha One woman guessed I was having a girl because I was carrying high. Lucky guess. I remember when I was pregnant with Cale, every guesser guessed girl. We were convinced we were having a girl. I remember being heavily drugged and confused when the dr said 'momma look at those boy parts'. I couldn't figure out why she was saying that about my daughter. Took a while to put it all together. LOL

Jen, that's scary that you were nauseous and out of breath while you were driving. It's about 9:45 here which means it's 10:45 there and hopefully you're sleeping soundly (and have been for a couple of hours.)

5 lbs isn't much at all. Unless your overweight (which your not) you are supposed to gain atleast 25 lbs overall I believe by the time your done. I find that so interesting as the Germans, who tend to be so much more progressive, recommend 15-20 max. The new hospital to which I'm being referred has mostly mid-wives (doctors only for the actual delivery), birthing tubs, rope ladders, balls, etc., etc., etc...all to make for a more comfortable birth. Plus, my fertility specialist (the BEST doctor in all of germany actually told me not to change anything that I'm doing--"But don't run a marathon." Hey, that is not going to happen as I haven't run over a mile in at least a month. Too much Cathe to do. ;-)

Tana im sure you dont look like a whale :) Sometimes we see ourselves in a negative light and are too hard on ourselves. THat seems to be the theme here this week. Everyone on the board feels HUGE! I know i do!! My food choices havent helped. I think we need to be thankful that we are all healthy and all our limbs work and we are growing healthy babies. Sometimes i have to remind myself of that. I think i need to enjoy pregnancy and not be so HARD on myself. There will be plenty of time to get back in better shape after the baby arrives - well, a few months later. We want to enjoy them as newborns! :)

Im feeling so so this morning. VERY tired...i started shutting down around 915pm last nite, but by the time i took the dog out and got myself ready for bed it was 10pm. I was aiming for 930 but i guess that was overly ambitious of me. It was an hour earlier than i normally go to sleep tho, so its better than nothing. I still did not want to wake up. I get up in the dark, so it makes it harder. At least its not a pain to come to work and be at work. I cant really complain about my position :)

I hope you all have a good day today

Hi everyone. I guess that I am not good at checking in on the weekends... not much is happening on my end. I am not as sleepy this week as I was last week, so that is good.

This weekend, my co-workers gave me a surprise baby shower. It was great. All the times I thought they were "talking" about me at work--they were planning the surprise. My hubby and I work together and HE was in on it too!! I didn't believe it. I didn't think that he could keep a secret. It was nice.

Have a good day ladies.

Hi Skyy! That is great! What sort of goodies did you get at your shower?

I have my church shower this sunday. next saturday is my "suprise" shower from my coworkers. One of them spilled the beans to me, so its not a suprise anymore, but its still a nice gesture. Im looking forward to both. Who doesnt like presents?? haha.

Jen, I mostly received pink outfits. I did get some cash, bids, blankets, and diapers. I received two baby monitors.

I honestly don't remember having a shower for my boys, so this one may have been my first shower. I did feel kind of weird being the center of attention for 4.5 hours. The nice thing about it was that I work with a lot of men, so I didn't expect it. The men brought their wives and they stayed upstairs and watched the football game while the ladies were downstairs at the shower. Then they had their kids. The kids were in a different part of the house playing. I had them include the little girls in the shower games and it was so cute.

The little girls were wearing pink and chocolate; Anna’s theme colors. I am almost 40 years old and I thought I was going to cry like a baby. I guess that it is getting more and more “real”.

I don’t know….. I guess that I am just emotional today. I need some decafe coffee.

Morning ladies ;)
Hey good news. My neighbors dog is home. They found him in the pound. so glad to hear hes ok. :)

Jen -I hope your feeling better?

Tana - I wouldn't say that meant you look like a whale. I'd say that means they thought you were small for being pregnant before.

Skyy -what a fun surprize with the shower ;) Hope you got some really good stuff!

Laura -well I don't think its physically possible for me to only gain that much. With my last pregnancy I worked out like a wild woman and watched what I ate like a hawk (probably too much) and gained 40 lbs. the drs didn't complain and it came right off. I really don't know where all that went too but I must've needed it. I'm hoping not to gain more than 30 this time (since I started out more) but we'll see. only 25 or so would be great. I'm not holding my breath though. But I do plan to continue regular exercise till the end and watch what I eat. I'm off to eat my morning cereal.

Skyy, sounds like you got a lot of nice gifts. And cash is always good too! :)
I also feel the same about being the center of attention. Makes me feel really awkward. I've always been somewhat of a wall flower. So....its weird opening presents in front of everyone. Oh well. They all love you! I am making my DH go to my work suprise shower with me, but he cannot attend the church one becuase he will be working. O h well.

Jess im so glad your neighbor found his dog!! Thank goodness.

Skyy, your babyshower sounded awesome! It must have taken a lot of planning. Very cool! Yeah, I'm not much for being the center of attention either. Too much pressure. I always feel like I'm going to forget to talk to or thank someone at those kinds of things.

Laura, the new hospital sounds so interesting. Very progressive.

Jess, that's great that your neighbor found his other dog! Sounds like he never gave up hope and kept looking.

Jen, I was wondering when your 2 baby showers were going to be. I thought you had mentioned January. Very exciting! The shower part where you're center of it all isn't all that exciting, but looking at all the baby things when you get home is awesome!

The nurse at my dr's office called this morn and they have my c-section scheduled for Wed, March 4. Here's the kicker...it's at 1:30pm and I can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight. She told me to check back a few times with her and see if she can get an early morning slot, but there weren't any available now. I remember when I had my DS, we spent the night with my in-laws so we could be closer to the hospital. I couldn't eat or drink and my FIL made a huge batch of biscuits and gravy. They all ate in front of me. I was starving!!

Tana biscuits and gravy when you are starving!!! How RUDE and MEAN! haha. eating in front of a hungry pregnant lady haha

Well, at least you know your due date, it will be here before you know it!! :)

Mine is still up in the air. Next friday i get my final ultrasound and maybe they can tell me wat she weighs now and maybe predict how big she will be when its time to deliver. I know they arent always accurate but it iwll give me an idea. She was 3 pounds back in november and thats the last measreument i've had as far as her weight goes.

Im getting hungry already and its not even noon!
