Michele,

You responded to my Gardeners: BEWARE post. Can you tell me if it's normal for an IV site to be a bit tender and puffy? I guess I'm a bit paranoid now about infection.

TIA,
Laura

Not Michele....but I am a nurse. A bit tender and slightly puffy is normal...after all, there was some tissue damage caused when the IV was inserted. However, watch for increased tenderness, puffiness, redness or drainage. These are definitely signs of infection.

Hope that helps

Angie

Hi Laura!

I'm sorry I didn't reply last night -- you must've posted this after I signed off. Anyway, ditto what Angie said and I hope your finger heals pronto! :)
