Great post, Sparrow. I couldn't have said it any better.
I put in 8-12 hours a week, depending on the time of year and what I'm trying to accomplish fitness-wise. But working out isn't the only thing I have in my world. It's important to me to be on top of ALL things associated with my son's life (yeah, can you say control freak?) -- his development, his education, his health... And I have my many creative pursuits that need time. I'm not even going to start with the daily errands and chores. The same goes with my husband. I know he wants to put in more time exercising. But he works so many hours during the week, that he prefers to spend his downtime with our boy. Well, either that, or he sleeps.:) I do wonder about the moms in my neighborhood and in my son's class who ask me about my fitness routine and then say they have no time. I'm doing more or less the same things they're doing. I make time. And if I can't, I steal it.:P Pinky |

They are the ones waiting in the parking lot for any spot not further than 3 spots from the front door. THey'll wait 15 minutes, driving around the lot looking for a close spot. ME? My boys now know that we are looking for the FURTHEST one! LOL (I hope that doesn't sound snobbish)
Pinky-I steel it also! LOL Raising 2 boys alone is a FULL TIME job to say the least, and even with 2 parents in the house, it's a FT job. Sure, I could do other things and probably SHOULD do other things sometimes. BUt, personally, I'm a better MOM when my day includes exercise - 'formal or informal' exercise. Gayle

I can say that before I began exercising I didn't sit around on the couch watching TV and eating Doritos. I did things that I don't have time for now, such as working in my yard. I had to hire a gardener because I don't have time for it anymore, and I am thinking about hiring a housekeeper because I don't have time for cleaning like to anymore either. I am also hiring more people to work on my house, because I don't have time to do that anymore (such as tiling.) Now that I think about it, an exercise program is costing me a LOT of money! :)
Just because someone doesn't exercise, doesn't mean they are inactive. |

I'll tell ya, my house would be SPOTLESS 24/7 if I didn't work out and that's no joke! It takes up A LOT of my time and I can easily see why folks would put exercise on the back burner in order to accomplish other things!:-)

See that's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking I'd spend that extra time working on my house, being single & childless (& let me just throw in here, even though I've said it before, my hat goes off to all moms who manage to stay fit & keep their kids out of jail at the same time LOL).
I know before I got a cleaning service I'd spend two hours at the gym on Saturday morning, & then the rest of my day scrubbing the house from top to bottom. I was more tired on Saturday after all that than I was after a 14 hour day at work. Anyway, I was just wondering what I was missing out on. Obviously parenting is one thing, but I already knew that & there isn't much I can do about it. :-( So probably everything I planned (& still plan on) doing to my house has just been shifted aside so I can spend my time exercising. Oh well...............I WILL start painting my living room next week--it's a new year's resolution & dammit my house WILL be rid of that rental white by 2007! :+

Honeybunch, you said it! As my DH told me before I was a workout junkie, "You'd make time if you wanted to." So true!:)

Laura,
Isn't it awesome to be one of the few people who makes something *other* than exercising/weight loss/quitting smoking as a new year's resolution? Your house is going to look terrific by 2007! Cheers, Sandra |
