Christmas gift question

Michele S

Cathlete
Hi all!

Other than family/friends, who else do you buy for? For example, my son is in second grade so I am buying his teacher and classroom aide a gift. Do I need to buy his speech teacher and gym teacher something? He takes swimming and skating lessons...do I need to buy those instructors gifts? I'm starting to wonder where it all ends!

TIA and Merry Christmas!
Michele

i bought only for family this year however i did get a box of chocolate cherries for each of viola's teachers, teachers aides, and in school therapists. the good ones are at wal-mart for under a $1 a box. i don't think you HAVE to buy for ALL of his teachers unless you want to. i am only doing it b/c we all have a great relationship involving viola. kind of like they are friends now

That's a good question. I bought a gift for my sons Kindergarten teacher and the daycare providers (who put him on the bus each morning). I didn't buy for anyone else. You're right it would never end. My dh says I should give to the garbage co., newspaper, mail carrier, etc. anyone who provides a service. We have digital cable, and the phone goes out a lot, so they come to fix it.....should I give them a gift too? ;)

DH and I don't exchange gifts with our friends. We will go out with them around the holidays for dinner to celebrate the season instead. There are no teachers or instructors to worry about at this point so we just have to worry about family....:)

Thanks, everyone, for the replies! Luckily, my friends and I don't exchange gifts and I've been able to cut family gift giving a lot through the years. I mainly just buy for my nieces and nephews and parents on both sides.

It just seems like once my kids have gotten involved with school/outside activities, the list could go on forever! I've decided to keep it just to classroom teachers and aides - not everyone they have contact with during the course of a day!!!:)

i think something small from the teachers(or even make a basket with school supplies they could use) is a good idea. i was surprised how much money the teachers here spend on their own stuff for the class. everything from pencils to index cards. viola's teacher makes a lot of stuff for us to use at the house. i wish i could afford something really nice for her extra effort in helping us but i did get her something to say thanks. i am going to get viola to MAKE a card, am i sure she would like that one too
