Cathe, I notice that you use a wide stance for your squats. What different muscles are used in doing a narrow vs a wide stance for squats?

Hi Beth! I really don't promote doing wide or narrow squats as a way of targeting different muscles. I simply encourage each person to use a wide, neutral, or narrow stance based on what is comfortable to them. I choose to stand with a wider stance simply because it feels better on my lower back. However, I must say that since incorporating more core work into my workouts, I notice that doing normal stance squats (just slightly wider than shoulder distance) is much more comfortable for me now.
 
Thanks, Cathe! I'm glad to hear the tip on low back pain. I'm going to try widening my stance a bit since I do have trouble sometimes with my back.
