Push Ups: On the Knees or Toes When Building Strength?

Hi Cathe!

The way you pump out those push ups is so impressive. I can't seem to build chest strength that allows me to do more than 1 or 2 full body push ups on my toes at a slow speed.

My question is, should I just do as many as I can on my toes or is it better to do more on my knees to help build my chest strength?

Thanks!
Marianne

Simply put, do as many on your toes as you can with good form, then finish out the set on the knees. Each time you perform the workout, try to pumpo out 1 or 2 extra on the toes before switching tothe knees, and continue with this until you can complete the set on the toes.

This will take time, several months of constant, repeated practice, with gradual overload on the muscles.

Depending on your body type, it may not come at all or as much or as well as you would like. It seems to be easier for mesomorphs, who build muscle easily, to perform full push ups, than for ectomorphs with long skinny arms and who are hard gainers.
