I just started using a heart rate monitor and although I love being about to see the calories burned and the exact duration of my workouts, I'm a little confused on if I should be working in the fat burn zone or the fitness zone.

Of course I would like to burn fat but I don't feel like I'm getting much of a workout in that zone and find that I stay there for a very low percentage of the time. I guess I'm not really a steady pace kind of girl. I love blasts! So my question is, am I still burning as much fat even though I'm working above this zone?

One other thing that I've been wondering about is how high is too high? My HRM is giving me 164 as my upper limit but I often go up to 175 during a blast. I love the high intensity but is it safe to exceed your maximum heart rate level?

Thanks for your input.
