Cathe--question about how often I work out

I have had a lot of physical issues lately--injured ankle, crackling knees (they seriously snap, crackle, and pop when I climb stairs or even just squat now but at least don't hurt me), and I've had a lingering cold and fever recently.

I am now taking a rest week (except for yoga), but I'm wondering if all my ailments are a sign that I am overdoing it as far as exercise. I am also tired a lot--think I just don't get enough sleep. I have usually done 6-day workout weeks this year, but I'm contemplating dropping to 5 and taking the weekend off, or one weekend day and one weekday. Do you think some people just can't handle as many workout days as others can?

Hi Lainie! I tell people if you are wondering if you are over exercising you probably are. The signs that you mentioned are all signs of overtraining. While I am not saying that you actually ARE overtraining, you have definitely provided enough reason to see if cutting back to 5 days per week helps with your physical issues. Also, sleep is so critical. I almost always come down with something if I don't get 6.5 to 7 hours per night at least 5 days a week.

I always say listen to your body....it is telling you something!
